Chapter 6256 Entangled Web
As the outside battle raged, the space inside the barrier seemed like a different world. Hundreds of giant corpses lay scattered across the ground—shockingly, every single one of them was a Divine Sovereign.
Some corpses still stood upright, as if frozen in their final moments of defiance, while others knelt in eternal silence. At the very center of it all sat a mud statue. Though weathered and indistinct, its faint outline resembled a woman.
Beside the statue, countless experts of the Shadow Devil Bat race stood tall, holding back a mass of black fog.
Long Chen’s heart shuddered when he saw the black fog. It was the manifestation of discarnate Divine Sovereign souls.
At the forefront stood a white-robed woman. She was holding a sword with her right hand, while her left formed a sword seal. Sovereign flames blazed around her body like a divine inferno.
“Eight hundred Sovereign flames...”
Long Chen couldn’t help but feel stunned when he saw the number of Sovereign flames around her.
Moreover, the sharpness of her Sword Qi was such that the black fog itself hesitated to approach her.
On the opposite side, a red-haired man with golden wings on his back was forming seals, blood light surging as it converged onto one of the giant corpses. He too had eight hundred Sovereign flames, and tens of thousands of winged devils stood at his side, working with him to attack with the black fog.
The battlefield was split into two sides: the Shadow Devil Bat race throwing away their lives to guard the statue, and the winged devils struggling desperately to seize it.
Long Chen furrowed his brows.
Just what is this statue, that both sides would fight to the death for it?
“Qi Ying, you... you brought someone from the nine heavens here?! Did you betray us?!”
Before Long Chen could get closer, a furious roar erupted. A Shadow Devil Bat expert with five hundred Sovereign flames had spotted him.
“Let me explain!” shouted Qi Ying.
However, that expert ignored her and lunged, thrusting a spear wreathed in torrential devil qi straight at Long Chen.
Qi Ying’s face turned pale, and she quickly moved to intercept. But before her hand could reach out, a black whip lashed through the air and sent the attacker flying. Zhi Zhi had easily stopped him.
“Kill the outsider first! Then seize Qi Ying for Lady Ming Yu’s judgment!” shouted another expert.
Over ten Shadow Devil Bat elites immediately charged at Long Chen.
“Listen to me! He’s a nine star heir!” shouted Qi Ying.
“So what if he is? Didn’t nine star heirs already butcher us for the Divine Sovereign Dao-Fruit?! Have you forgotten how your great-grandfather died?!” roared a muscular warrior.
He also possessed five hundred Sovereign flames, but his aura was sharper and more condensed than the rest. His killing intent locked tightly onto Long Chen, reading every fluctuation of his energy. He was no ordinary expert.
“I believe he is different from the previous nine star heirs! He and the original devil race—” Qi Ying tried to explain.
“The people of the nine heavens are all liars! How can you believe him?! Are you trying to get us annihilated?!” the muscular guy bellowed.
He swung his broadsword down, and black qi surged from its edge toward Long Chen.
“Wait—!” Qi Ying cried, panic in her voice. But no one was listening.
In the face of that all-out strike, Long Chen calmly lifted his hand. Starlight shimmered across his palm as astral energy gathered.
This person was powerful. Even Long Chen had to use his astral energy to deal with him.
BOOM!
The muscular warrior was blasted backward, his weapon nearly torn from his grasp. He spat blood as he tumbled away.
However, that only triggered the others. In the next instant, dozens of Shadow Devil Bat experts unleashed their might. Their attacks rained down on Long Chen, even sweeping across Qi Ying.
Qi Ying’s heart sank. What have I done...?
She had never imagined her decision to bring Long Chen here would spiral into such chaos. Now their rear defenses were in chaos, and their frontlines faltered under the enemy’s pressure. If they collapsed, it would all be her fault.
Long Chen’s expression darkened. He had come here to help, yet they were trying to kill him before he could even speak.
All of a sudden, the ground split apart, and Zhi Zhi’s vines erupted with violent force. It answered Long Chen’s anger and was ready to slaughter.
“Long Chen, don’t!” Qi Ying shouted, terror in her eyes.
She had seen firsthand how terrifying Zhi Zhi’s concentrated power could be—it could wipe them out in an instant.
Long Chen only shook his head. With an ice-cold voice, he said, “Whatever. I won’t meddle in the Shadow Devil Bat race’s affairs. If they want to die so badly, let them.”
He turned as if to leave—
“Stop it!”
A commanding voice thundered across the battlefield.
The attacking experts froze mid-motion, their faces paling as they turned toward its source.
“Lady Ming Yu!” Qi Ying gasped, her voice trembling with relief.
At the frontlines, the white-robed woman did not waver from her battle against the black fog, yet her words carried clearly through the air.
She asked, “Friend, why does the aura of my Shadow Devil Bat race linger on you? What connection do you share with us?”
Long Chen thought for a moment before shaking his head.
“I don’t know!”
He was certain he had definitely heard the name of the Shadow Devil Bat race, but he couldn’t recall where he had heard it.
“Friend, if you are willing to help my race, we will forever be indebted to you,” said the white-robed woman.
“Lady Ming Yu, you can’t!” shouted the experts of the Shadow Devil Bat race, their faces aghast.
“This is my decision. None may object!”
Her cold authority silenced them at once.
Long Chen frowned. He had come here intending to help, yet now it sounded as though they were only reluctantly willing to accept his aid.
Seeing Long Chen frown like he was going to leave, Qi Ying grabbed his hand and begged, “In truth, I hate the human race and nine star heirs. Our history is drenched in their deceit and bloodshed. Even my great-grandfather died at the hands of a nine star heir. But... when I look at you, I feel something different—something that tells me I can trust you. If Lady Ming Yu says there is a bond between you and our race, then there must be. Please... help us.”
For a moment, Long Chen simply stared at this stubborn and tough woman. Seeing her pleading with him, he finally sighed.
He stepped forward, walking toward the heart of the battlefield.
