Chapter 7307 Taking on a Duty
“Just now, I used your Sovereign King Dragon Crown to ignite Grand Dao power. But you also managed to use my Grand Dao power in return. Did you feel anything?”
As they flew, the palace master constantly switched directions and sent out clones to throw off any pursuers. Once he no longer felt any danger at all, he was finally able to talk to Long Chen properly.
Long Chen thought back to when he used the palace master’s power to unleash one of the techniques of the dragon race. He then slowly replied, “This Grand Dao power comes mostly from heaven and earth. It is the will of the world. We are still just borrowing the power of heaven and earth, but now it is a completely different concept from everything that we’ve come into contact with before. When I used your power, I discovered that this Grand Dao power is neither friendly nor hostile towards me. It does not reject me, but I can also sense that it doesn’t like being controlled!”
“The sweeping elder told me that the Heavenly Daos are emotionless, and they favor the virtuous. I thought it was about being a good person, but I now realize that I was wrong. The Heavenly Daos will not favor you because you think you are a good person. Only someone skilled at observing the Heavenly Daos, sensing the Heavenly Daos, and conforming with the Heavenly Daos can gain their favor.
“In the same vein, humans often say that people are born good. But the ‘good’ here doesn’t mean a good person, or that someone is kind when they are born. Whether someone has a good or evil disposition is set at birth, but their character will also be influenced by the environment. Even someone with a kind disposition can become evil in an evil environment, and vice-versa. Thus, whether someone is good or bad is ultimately up to their environment.
“However, when it comes to virtue, just like the Dao, it is hard to explain. To us, whether someone is virtuous or not is a matter of opinion. Perhaps someone might do something you consider a good deed, and you would consider that virtuous. But perhaps in the viewpoint of the Dao, what they did was actually evil. In the same vein, something we consider evil might actually be considered good in the eyes of the Dao.
“The sweeping elder told me that you must cast aside your preconceptions about good and evil, as well as right and wrong. Only then can you be in tune with the Grand Dao. Only then can you understand the true Dao, and control its power.”
Long Chen shook his head with a bitter smile. “To reach the same point as the Dao where you have no desires, no sense of good and evil, no sense of right and wrong... I don’t think I’m capable of achieving it.”
The palace master smiled at that. “I feel the same way. However, the sweeping elder also said that if you can’t do this, there is a shortcut to understanding the Grand Dao.”
“What shortcut?” asked Long Chen.
“The earth does not grow nameless grass, and the heavens do not birth useless people. Every person has a purpose in this world. Find your purpose, and use this duty as a staircase to ascend the pinnacle of the Grand Dao.”
Long Chen’s heart shook. “Purpose? Duty?”
He immediately thought back to how multiple people had called him gamebreaker. Even now, he didn’t know if that was really true. If he was the gamebreaker, what was the game? But the palace master’s words triggered countless bolts of lightning that flashed through Long Chen’s mind. Though he was still in the darkness, he felt as if he had grabbed a few sparks.
If he was not this so-called gamebreaker, then why would the Pill Sovereign’s memories awaken within him? Why would a heaven-defying treasure like the primal chaos bead end up in his hands? Dragonbone Evilmoon, the Heaven Earth Cauldron, the Six Dao Stone... How had he ended up entangled with such major karma? And then there were the violet blood race, the Jiuli race, and the dragon race. Why would they all be bound to him? Coincidence? Could there really be that many coincidences in this world?
If I’m not the gamebreaker, how did I end up with all this karma? If I am the gamebreaker, I should work hard to fulfill the mission that the world gave me. What am I conflicted over? What am I afraid of?
While Long Chen was pondering, the palace master could sense his aura changing. The power of the Grand Dao silently swirled around him.
Even without the Sovereign King Dragon Crown, the palace master could still clearly sense a majestic and grand energy gathering around Long Chen. He felt an indescribable sense of reverence for this power, one coming from deep within his soul.
As Long Chen’s aura changed, his gaze grew firmer and more confident. At this moment, it felt like an invisible halo had been added to his body.
“I’ve been slacking for too long. It’s time to pick up my burden!” Long Chen clenched his fists. A bright light radiated from his eyes. The fearless and arrogant Long Chen who had looked down on the nine heavens was back...
Sensing Long Chen’s incredibly sharp aura, the palace master’s admiration for the sweeping elder increased even more.
During this tribulation, both he and Long Chen had benefited immensely. Long Chen had lived up to his trust, and thanks to the Sovereign King Dragon Crown, his understanding of the Grand Dao had deepened. Just by meditating a bit once they returned, he would be able to stabilize his Heavenly Sovereign cultivation with an incredibly solid foundation, saving him a great deal of time.
Several hours later, the two of them finally returned to the first academy. The palace master hid his aura and went directly into seclusion. Other than Long Chen, no one else knew that the first academy now had a terrifying Heavenly Sovereign standing guard over it.
As for Long Chen, the first thing he did was check the primal chaos space. As he had expected, there were now four new fruits on the Heavenly Dao Tree. They emitted the majestic aura of the Grand Dao. However, these four fruits were withered and dim. They didn’t have the same light as the other Heavenly Dao Fruits.
“Those four Heavenly Sovereigns were killed by the palace master and myself working together. The Heavenly Dao Tree grasped the karma involved. But the four of them really were heavily injured. Even the fruit condensed from their power is reduced to this state.” Long Chen was a bit disappointed by the appearance of these fruits.
When he sensed this Grand Dao power, he discovered that the laws inside were incomplete. That was evidence that the four of them had been suffering even worse injuries than they had appeared.
Eh, whatever! No matter what, these four fruits can still produce four Heavenly Sovereigns! Even if they’re just quasi Heavenly Sovereigns, that’s enough to scare others! thought Long Chen.
With this incomplete Grand Dao power, it was probably only possible to create an imitation of a Heavenly Sovereign. In terms of power, it was unlikely that someone who consumed it would be able to match those four Eagle-Claw Devil Wolves. Even so, four quasi Heavenly Sovereigns would definitely be enough to raise the first academy’s overall power to a new level. There would be no need for the palace master to do anything; just the four quasi Heavenly Sovereigns would be enough to intimidate all their enemies.
Long Chen checked on Lei Linger and Cang Lu was well. They were also in seclusion. The aura of the Grand Dao swirled around them. They were giving off shocking energy fluctuations. They both now had a hint of a Heavenly Sovereign’s aura.
Once they finish absorbing this energy, they should be able to at least exchange blows with a Heavenly Sovereign! Long Chen was excited by that thought. Now he had even more power backing him!
“The essence blood of a Heavenly Sovereign can’t be wasted!”
Long Chen extracted the blood of the Eagle-Claw Devil Wolves that he had seized. As for their corpses, he hesitated for a moment, then decided not to let the black soil consume them. He sealed them away and gave them to a representative of the Huayun Trading Company to send them to the Blood Barbarian race. Wilde was definitely doing his best to grow, and the flesh of Heavenly Sovereigns was probably what he needed the most right now.
After dealing with the corpses, he then began refining their essence blood. He was surprised to find that this refinement was not difficult at all. He soon realized what the issue was—their Grand Dao power was incomplete, so the difficulty of refining their blood dropped. In other words, their true power was definitely lacking by more than a bit compared to true Heavenly Sovereigns. Even so, this was still the blood of a Heavenly Sovereign. It was still a priceless treasure.
After spending a full day, he finally finished refining all the blood. Just then, a disciple ran over with a report.
“Dean Long Chen, the Brahma line has sent a delegation!”
