Chapter 63: Emergency Hall? I Like It.

The moment Lin Jin received the reassignment order, he came over to the emergency hall without wasting a single second.

Naturally, he knew about the emergency hall as well. The environment there was dreadful and the beast appraisal and treatment workload was heavy enough to make a person faint from fatigue. To make things worse, they were constantly scolded or even beaten up. Lin Jin knew that Wang Ji and the others sent him over here with malicious purposes.

However, Lin Jin really couldn’t care less.

All was well as long as he could appraise beasts.

Previously, he was getting edgy due to boredom. Moreover, the Museum of Deadly Beasts required quite a number of pet beasts to be recorded before he could receive a reward. Here at the emergency hall, what he didn’t lack was various types of pet beasts. Hence, this emergency hall that everyone was itching to get away from, was ‘heaven’ to Lin Jin.

Since he had the Museum of Deadly Beasts, no matter the beast or illness, Lin Jin could find a solution from the museum.

“Appraiser Lin, we don’t have many rules here in the emergency hall, apart from one golden rule. Whoever is more competent has a higher status. Only those who are capable have authority. Otherwise, they’d just be giving the rest of us trouble. So even if you’re a certified beast appraiser, the same rule applies to you,” said an experienced apprentice.

However, he wasn’t trying to make things hard for Lin Jin. Everyone at the emergency hall was in the same dreadful predicament so there was no reason to make things hard for the other person. Furthermore, it was too hectic here that no one had time for power struggles. Everyone helped each other out, and if a problem arose, everyone would be held collectively responsible.

Of course, what they despised most in this situation was someone holding them back.

They knew full well that Lin Jin was being bullied by Chief Wang Ji and was subsequently assigned to the emergency hall. They didn’t worry about Lin Jin’s competence because a starving camel was still larger than a horse after all. No matter how unskilled he was, he was least better than some of the apprentices here, right?

What they feared was Lin Jin not knowing his place, and that he would just order them around blindly, putting on airs, and ultimately causing them nothing but trouble.

Hence, they decided to be brutally blunt.

Lin Jin understood their intention and didn’t mind it.

“Since I’m here, it’s only natural that I follow the law of the jungle. It’s alright, you’ll do the arrangements!” Lin Jin replied casually.

Upon realizing how accepting Lin Jin was, the apprentice eased up. However, he dared not go overboard with his orders. Lin Jin was a certified beast appraiser, after all. He couldn’t possibly let him do miscellaneous tasks just as he would with other apprentices.

And so, he pointed to a row of tables and said, “Appraiser Lin, you can sit there and help with the beasts’ treatments. If you aren’t sure of the treatment, you can get the others to help in group consultation. If that still doesn’t work, our emergency hall will have to defer the case to some other department. We can only transfer the patient to the official halls for the others to deal with it.”

Lin Jin nodded before taking his seat without making a fuss.

Just as he sat down, he received his first job.

An apprentice could be seen leading someone over in a hurry. The client was carrying a pet beast in his arms and was directed to take a seat at the table across Lin Jin.

“Appraiser, I was fighting someone with my pet beast and lost. My pet beast is heavily injured, please save his life,” the client was covered in sweat and bloodstains.

In his arms was a white mink.

There was a large gashing wound on the pet’s body and fresh blood was pouring out profusely, dyeing its white fur crimson. This was also how the client got bloodstains all over his clothes.

Lin Jin immediately stood up and touched the creature.

“Rank 1 pet beast. Swordtail mink!”

“Status: Heavily injured, severe blood loss, dying…”

“Emergency treatment methods include…”

Lin Jin never expected his first case at the emergency hall to be such a challenging case. Strictly speaking, it was difficult to rescue a pet beast that was so gravely injured and lost so much blood that it was on the brink of death. From Lin Jin’s eyes, the mink wasn’t moving at all and it seemed no different from being dead.

However, since the Museum of Deadly Beasts said it could be rescued, so he had to give it a shot. Things might work out in the end, who knows?

And so, Lin Jin got to work at once.

“Place him on the table. Whoever knows how to cast a Hemostasis spell, come and help me. Get me a scalpel and some styptic powder. Pronto!” Lin Jin instructed with a stern expression without ever stopping his hands.

Many people saw how the apprentices gasped when this heavily injured pet beast first entered the emergency hall. The younger ones were flustered while the experienced apprentices shook their heads.

To them, this pet beast was beyond salvation.

Death was inevitable.

With such a large wound and severe blood loss, coupled with the fact that it wasn’t moving at all. It might already have been dead.

Those working at the emergency hall had been here for a while and cases like this were far too common. Most of the time, these cases were dead ends which explained why they were so reluctant to accept them.

If they declared it unsavable, the clients wouldn’t have it. And if they tried but ended up failing, they would undoubtedly be berated by the pet’s owner, or on rare occasions, get physically abused.

Hence, everyone backed away, not daring to get involved.

When they saw Lin Jin accept the case, none of them believed that Lin Jin could solve it. Forget Lin Jin, even if Appraiser Gao or Chief Wang was here, there was nothing they could do to help the poor mink.

“This Appraiser Lin is really pitiful. Not only did he get his consultation hall shut down by Chief Wang, he got assigned to the emergency hall, where his first case is such a troublesome one. If things get ugly later, he will need to take responsibility and some people with ill-intentions might even call this his second mishap. Even I’m worried for him.”

No one went over and no one helped him out.

Lin Jin took out the needles he carried around and swiftly pierced them into the pet beast. That stopped the bleeding by a significant margin.

Then, he looked up and realized everyone’s worries. He repeated what he said earlier, but this time, he added, “If anything happens, I’ll take responsibility!”

Finally, someone came over to help, albeit reluctantly.

Despite their reluctance, since it had come to this, they had to carry on with their duty. Moreover, Appraiser Lin already declared that he would take responsibility for any mishaps.

“I know how to cast a Hemostasis spell!” A pale-faced apprentice said.

Lin Jin had him cast the spell at once to help stop the pet beast’s bleeding together which worked together with his needles.

At the same time, someone brought a scalpel and some styptic powder over.

But even so, they had no idea how to treat the creature. Only Lin Jin was systematically tending to the wound. There wasn’t a trace of hesitation as he carried out every procedure and step resolutely with great confidence.

At that moment, dead silence descended upon the emergency hall. It was as the saying went, ‘outsiders simply enjoyed the show while the specialists admired the technique’. The apprentices working in the emergency hall appraised and treated pet beasts all year long. Putting knowledge aside, their practical skills were arguably better than most of the highly-ranked apprentices.

Most of them even looked down on those highly-ranked apprentices.

However, at this moment, Lin Jin’s series of techniques made their jaws drop. They found it beyond impressive. Be it his methods to stop the bleeding, how he sewed up the wound, or how he used his needles, they were all textbook examples of treating a beast.

Some of them approached cautiously to observe the procedure in detail.

There were also some who didn’t understand how Lin Jin’s needles worked so they wanted to get a closer look.

It didn’t take long before Lin Jin was done treating the wound and started sewing up the wound. Yet, the swordtail mink showed no signs of waking up as it laid there motionlessly.

‘This treatment method is impeccable and in fact, it’s far better and neater than what our veteran apprentices here could do. But the problem now is how he would save it. This pet beast has lost too much blood and was already on the verge of death. Even if its wound is treated, if it’s dead, it would have all been for naught,’ someone mused.

To be honest, they were all impressed by what Lin Jin had done earlier. As expected of a certified beast appraiser. Those rumors about him being unskilled were clearly rubbish.

However, skills had nothing to do with whether the pet beast could be rescued as it was too heavily injured.

“Does anyone have a thunderstorm stone?” Lin Jin suddenly asked,

The crowd was stunned.

“Does anyone have a thunderstorm stone? Let me borrow it and I’ll return it to you once I’m done,” Lin Jin asked again.

“I have one but it’s only a small piece!” A female apprentice came over sheepishly as she removed one of her earrings. Hanging on the earring was a tiny piece of yellow gemstone with the size of a rice grain.

Lin Jin received it as he glanced at her face. “Great, thanks!”

Having said that, he took out a needle and stabbed it into the swordtail mink’s heart.
