Chapter 1260: TELLING GRANDMA

Chapter 1260: TELLING GRANDMA

LUO YAN helped Shen Ji Yun wash the dirty dishes. While they worked, Grandma Wu waited in the living room, sipping her tea. She had offered to help, but of course they politely refused. There was no way they would let her do chores in their place.

As they finished and put the clean dishes away, Luo Yan glanced at Shen Ji Yun. Something had been on his mind since their conversation with Grandma Wu earlier. He had been wondering whether he should go through with what he was thinking or not. But since it involved both of them, he knew he should ask Shen Ji Yun's opinion first.

"Brother Ji Yun," Luo Yan began in a gentle tone. "How do you feel about telling Grandma Wu about our relationship?"

Shen Ji Yun paused and turned to face him. "I'm fine with it. But… are you sure?"

His response was careful, as if he were watching Luo Yan's reaction closely. It was clear Shen Ji Yun liked the idea, but he wanted to be certain Luo Yan was truly comfortable with it too. That was why he asked that instead of just simply saying yes.

Luo Yan chuckled. "Yes, I am. Should we tell her now?"

Shen Ji Yun paused, seeming to realize Luo Yan was completely serious. A soft smile spread across his face. "Let's do it now."

Wu Meixiu sipped her tea quietly as she waited for her grandson and Luo Yan to finish cleaning the dishes. She was thinking of having a little more conversation with them before saying goodbye and heading home. Just as she set her teacup down on the coffee table, the two young men walked back into the living room.

She noticed right away that the two seemed like they wanted to say something. They stood close together, their expressions a mix of seriousness and slight nervousness. Luo Yan kept glancing at Shen Ji Yun as if waiting for him to start, while the latter looked both determined and a little hesitant.

She decided to gently encourage them so they could share whatever was on their minds. "Did you two want to tell me something?"

The two exchanged one more look before Shen Ji Yun took a deep breath, as if steadying himself for what he was about to say.

Her grandson cleared his throat. "Yes, we wanted to tell you something, Grandma." She raised an eyebrow when she saw Shen Ji Yun reach for Luo Yan's hand and hold it firmly. "Actually, Yan Yan and I are dating."

Wu Meixiu just stared, her mind struggling to catch up with what she had just heard. She just saw them holding hands, but she had assumed it was just a friendly gesture. Throughout lunch, she noticed how naturally they interacted, but it never occurred to her that their closeness might mean something more. To her, they simply seemed like very good friends. So when Shen Ji Yun said they were dating, she felt genuinely stunned.

When his grandmother remained silent, Shen Ji Yun began to feel nervous. But when he felt Luo Yan gently squeeze his hand, the warmth and steadiness of that touch reminded him he wasn't alone. That simple gesture grounded him, easing his anxiety and bringing back his calm. He squeezed Luo Yan's hand in return and waited patiently for his grandmother's response.

In truth, Luo Yan was also feeling nervous. But he tried his best not to show it. He knew it would only make Shen Ji Yun more anxious if he did. He had to look confident to reassure Shen Ji Yun that he would be here, no matter how his grandmother would react.

Grandma Wu seemed to have gotten over her initial shock. "I- I honestly don't know what to say," she began before standing up and walking toward them. She reached for their linked hands and held them gently. "But I do know that congratulations are in order. I'm happy for you both."

She had never really considered the possibility that Shen Ji Yun might be gay, let alone in a relationship with Luo Yan. That was why their direct confession came as such a big surprise. But asking how or why felt like the wrong way to react. It would be like implying there was something wrong with him, and there was absolutely nothing wrong with her grandson.

Just like her thoughts when Shen Yi Mu admitted he was gay, she did not believe there was anything wrong with her son. He was still the same person she had raised and loved. The only difference was that he was attracted to men instead of women. And that was perfectly fine. It was not a crime or something unnatural. She felt the same way about Shen Ji Yun. As long as they were happy, then that was the only thing that mattered.

Both Shen Ji Yun and Luo Yan let out a quiet sigh of relief, their shoulders relaxing at the same time. Though they had felt fairly confident she would accept them, hearing her say it clearly made them feel truly at ease. They exchanged a quick look, their eyes showing happiness and gratitude.

Shen Ji Yun gave his grandmother a quick, warm hug. "Thank you, Grandma. Really."

Luo Yan hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should hug her too, but in the end, he gently did. "Thank you, Grandma Wu."

"Shh, none of that," Wu Meixiu said, placing her hands gently on their cheeks. "There is no need to thank me for something that should come naturally."

"I'm not sure everyone would feel the same way," Shen Ji Yun said quietly.

Wu Meixiu offered a sad smile. She knew her grandson was talking about her husband. As much as she wanted to say that Shen Wang Ji would come around, she was not even sure that was possible. So she could only gently pat Shen Ji Yun's cheek, hoping to comfort him in some small way.

She turned to Luo Yan, deciding to change the subject. "By the way, Xiao Yan, does your family know about you and Xiao Yun?"
