Chapter 1278: COLD ANGER
"IT'S a real honor to meet you, Master Su," Luo Wei Tian began, extending his hand. "Your landscape series, the one with the mountains, is truly remarkable. The feeling it creates is very powerful. It's one of my favorites in your work."
In truth, Luo Wei Tian wasn't familiar with most of Su Cheng Han's work. His knowledge of that series came entirely from his wife, Meihua, who had purchased one of the paintings. He looked at it every day, as it still hung prominently on his office wall.
Su Cheng Han shook his hand with a warm, appreciative smile. "Thank you for such kind words, President Luo. That is very generous of you to say." He then turned his gaze toward Luo Jin, his expression softening further. "The real honor is mine, to finally meet the father of this young man. Your son has been a good friend to my daughter. There was an incident during the last Lunar New Year. Some troublemakers caused a commotion in a restaurant and tried to hurt Qiqi. Xiao Jin was the one who protected her. He acted with great courage and courtesy. My wife and I have always been very grateful to him for that."
Luo Wei Tian looked at his son. Of course he knew about that incident. Two of his sons had been involved, and Luo Jin had come home with bruises on his face. If Bai Chen hadn't assured him that the people responsible had been properly dealt with, he would have taken matters into his own hands.
"His actions spoke very well of his upbringing," Su Cheng Han continued. "So I must thank you as well."
Luo Wei Tian did not know if this was just polite talk, but the other man seemed sincere. So he replied, "You're too kind. Any good person would have done the same."
Although he strongly suspected his son had only acted so because of his feelings for Su Yuqi. This was not something he would say to her father though. He had heard the girl was an only child, which meant Su Cheng Han was likely very protective of her. The thought of a young man having romantic intentions toward his only daughter might not be welcomed, no matter how helpful that young man had been in the past.
Luo Wei Tian glanced again at Luo Jin. Even though his son was not showing it, he knew the other seemed very antsy to know where Su Yuqi was. He decided he needed to find a way to bring up her name in the conversation.
"By the way, are you attending this event by yourself, Master Su?" he asked, trying his best to steer the conversation toward where Su Yuqi was.
"Oh no, my daughter and my youngest disciple are here with me," Su Cheng Han answered. Then, seeming to remember something, he turned to Luo Jin. "Xiao Jin, why don't you go join them? They're in the lounge area right now. I'm sure Qiqi will be happy to see you."
Luo Jin felt like celebrating when he heard that. He knew he would never have gotten this information this fast without his father's help. But he made sure to keep his expression neutral and not show his excitement.
"Yes, Xiao Jin, I'm sure you'd rather spend time with people your own age than listen to us old men talk," Luo Wei Tian said, giving his son an encouraging nod.
Once again, Luo Jin wished he could high-five his father right then and there. But he kept his expression calm and simply said, "Thank you. If you'll excuse me, I'll go and see them now."
He gave them a polite bow before walking toward the lounge area. It was located in a separate section of the same floor. He had to open a set of double doors to enter the space.
The lounge area was much quieter than the main event space. Only a handful of guests were scattered around the large room. This made it very easy for Luo Jin to spot the person he was looking for almost immediately.
Su Yuqi stood by the large window, looking out at the city lights. She wore a deep blue cheongsam that fit her slender frame perfectly. The dress had delicate silver embroidery along its high collar and along the edges of the sleeves. Her dark purple hair was styled up, held securely by a single, elegant silver hairpin. The soft light of the lounge made her skin seem to glow.
This beautiful image was ruined by the man standing beside her. Luo Jin recognized him immediately from his appearance. It was obviously Ning Feng, since he looked exactly like his game avatar, the captain of team Fenghuang.
Su Yuqi had not noticed him yet, so he continued walking toward her. But then Ning Feng turned and looked directly at him. When Ning Feng saw Luo Jin, a smile appeared on his face. A sudden sense of unease settled in Luo Jin's stomach.
"So, did you tell young master Jin you were in S City?" Ning Feng asked, causing Luo Jin to stop walking. "He's from here, isn't he?"
Luo Jin saw Su Yuqi frown. "That's none of your business."
Ning Feng shrugged. "I just assumed you didn't tell him you're here because you finally accepted what I said about his feelings for you. That it's nothing more than a big infatuation."
What the fuck?
So this was why Su Yuqi had been avoiding him? The realization sent a sharp wave of anger and hurt through him. He gritted his teeth, his hands curling into tight fists at his sides as he tried to process the information.
But despite his anger, he still found himself calling out her name.
"Yuqi."
Su Yuqi froze completely when she heard that unmistakable voice. It couldn't possibly be him, could it? What would Luo Jin be doing here? But when she slowly turned toward the sound, her eyes confirmed what her ears had heard. There he stood, his expression tight with a cold, controlled anger she had never seen on his face before.
