Chapter 1297: BREAK BETWEEN CLASS

Chapter 1297: BREAK BETWEEN CLASS

AFTER he left the group of classmates, Luo Yan made his way out of the lecture hall and into the main hallway of the building. He hurried toward the building's main entrance. While he walked, he pulled out his phone and opened WeChat. He sent a message to Shen Ji Yun.

[yanyan1213]: Brother Ji Yun, are you already there? I just got out of class, I'm on my way now.

Shen Ji Yun's reply came through almost immediately, before Luo Yan had even put his phone back in his pocket.

[luckycloud]: No worries, take your time. I just arrived myself, so there's no rush.

Luo Yan smiled when he read the message. He picked up his pace a little, weaving through the other students in the hallway. When he finally pushed through the main entrance doors and stepped outside, he immediately spotted the familiar, tall figure of Shen Ji Yun standing nearby.

He paused just outside the entrance, his steps slowing to a stop. He took a moment just to look at his boyfriend.

Shen Ji Yun stood leaning against the concrete wall of the building, looking at his phone. He wore a soft, light gray crewneck sweatshirt made of a fine, brushed material. His dark jeans were perfectly fitted but looked comfortable, and he had on a pair of black sneakers.

Luo Yan couldn't quite believe that this fine-looking man was actually his boyfriend. Just how lucky could one person be? He smiled to himself and then walked over to where Shen Ji Yun was standing.

"Brother Ji Yun," he called out as he got closer, his smile widening.

Shen Ji Yun turned his head toward the voice. A small, genuine smile immediately crossed his lips as soon as he saw Luo Yan. "Yan Yan."

Luo Yan walked the rest of the way over to him. "How long do you have before your next class?"

"I have a break for about an hour," Shen Ji Yun answered, putting his phone away.

Luo Yan smiled brightly at that. "I've got about an hour too," he said. "Perfect timing. Do you want to go grab something at a cafe? Or just walk around somewhere?"

Shen Ji Yun nodded, clearly pleased with the idea. "A cafe sounds good," he said, pushing himself away from the wall. As he did, he reached out and gently took the backpack from Luo Yan's shoulder, slinging it over his own. "Let's go."

Luo Yan paused for a second when Shen Ji Yun took his bag. It was the quiet, unthinking way Shen Ji Yun did it that made him pause. The casualness of it made a wave of warm affection spread through Luo Yan's chest. He smiled again, a softer, more private smile, and fell into step beside him.

They took Shen Ji Yun's car to a cafe that was a bit of a drive from campus, far from the busy university area. The place was small and cute, with large windows. Inside, it was quiet and filled with warm light. Bookshelves lined the walls, packed with used books, making it feel more like a cozy bookstore that also happened to serve excellent coffee.

This had been Luo Yan's favorite cafe back when he was a student at T University the first time around. In fact, he had even worked part time here. He was really glad to see the cafe was still here even after over eight years had passed. It still looked exactly the same, as if time hadn't touched it at all. The only actual difference he could see was the faces of the barista and the other server working behind the counter.

"I didn't know there was a place like this so close to campus," Shen Ji Yun said as he looked around the quiet shop. He chose a small table between two bookshelves and sat down.

Luo Yan sat down in the chair opposite him. "I found it online a while back and thought it looked cute."

It was a little white lie. He still couldn't tell Shen Ji Yun everything about himself. That part about dying and becoming this Luo Yan, he wasn't ready to share that yet. He knew he probably should tell him one day. He promised himself he would, eventually. But not right now. Not anytime soon.

"So," Luo Yan said, smoothly changing the topic. He nodded toward the counter at the front of the shop. "What do you feel like getting? We should go order."

Shen Ji Yun stood up from his chair. "I'll go order for us. Just tell me what you want."

"Just a matcha latte for me," Luo Yan said, looking up at him. "Thanks, Brother Ji Yun."

Shen Ji Yun nodded and walked over to the counter. A few minutes later, he came back holding a tray. On it was the matcha latte, a cup of black Americano, and also a plate with a single slice of cheesecake.

Shen Ji Yun placed the tray on the edge of the table. He took the matcha latte off and set it in front of Luo Yan, then did the same with his own Americano. Finally, he lifted the plate with the cheesecake off the tray and slid it across the table until it was right in front of Luo Yan. He then moved the empty tray to the nearby table.

Luo Yan looked up at him, a question in his eyes. He's probably wondering why he bought this as well.

"I thought you'd like it," Shen Ji Yun said simply. Then he sat down in his chair.

Luo Yan looked at the cheesecake and smiled to himself. How thoughtful. He picked up his fork and took a bite. The rich cheese and sweet cream spread in his mouth, making him smile wider. "This is really good," he said. He then carefully cut a separate piece and raised the fork, offering it to Shen Ji Yun. "Here, you have to try it, Brother Ji Yun."

Shen Ji Yun looked at the fork held in front of him, the piece of cheesecake balanced on it. A faint, warm flush colored his cheeks. He leaned forward and ate the offered bite.
