Chapter 1329: A TALK WITH AH JIN

Chapter 1329: A TALK WITH AH JIN

A KNOCK on the door interrupted Luo Yan's thoughts. Before he could say anything, the door opened and Luo Jin stepped inside.

Luo Yan smiled and gave him a once-over. "Look at you. So sharp and handsome."

Luo Jin wore a blue-gray suit that fit him well, the fabric pulling subtly across his broad shoulders and chest, accentuating his solid, gym-honed frame. The jacket was cleanly cut, and the trousers sat perfectly at his hips. His white shirt was open at the collar, worn without a tie, which gave the whole look a less formal, more natural feel. His hair was combed neatly back from his forehead in an effortlessly refined manner.

His younger brother let out a grunt of complaint. "Do you know how much cream that stylist Aunt Xiulan hired put on my face? I feel so sticky now. And she even tried to put lipstick on me!"

Luo Yan chuckled. "What's wrong with a little lipstick? You think those popular actors don't wear any to make themselves look better? Don't you want to look even more handsome in Sister Yuqi's eyes?"

Luo Jin furrowed his brows and let out another grunt before dropping onto the edge of Luo Yan's bed. "No thanks. Yuqi doesn't care much about how I look. She likes me for who I am."

Luo Yan raised an eyebrow. "Well. Good for you."

His brother stared at him. "Did something happen between you and Dad? You're both acting strange."

Luo Yan paused in the middle of fixing his hair. Luo Jin and Luo Ren had arrived before lunch. He and their father had patched things up a little, but anyone paying attention could still tell something was off between them. He had hoped everyone would be too caught up in the party preparations to notice. But it seemed Luo Jin had noticed, anyway.

He let out a sigh. "Dad found out."

Luo Jin tilted his head. "Found out about what?"

"About me and Brother Ji Yun," Luo Yan said quietly.

Luo Jin's eyes went wide, almost comically so. He shot up from the bed. "What? How? You mean your relationship with Shen Ji Yun, right? How did Dad even find out?" He paused, his expression shifting. "Wait—don't tell me he saw you two doing something you shouldn't have been doing out in public?"

Luo Yan scratched his cheek, too embarrassed to answer. But Luo Jin caught the look on his face right away.

"Oh my god, I'm right, aren't I?" Luo Jin ran a hand through his hair. "Damn it, Yan! I told you, you and Shen Ji Yun need to tone it down with all the public displays. It's like you're walking around with a sign announcing you're together. And now Dad found out."

Luo Yan pouted and mumbled under his breath. "It's not like we were hiding it."

Luo Jin shot him a sharp look. "So you wanted Dad to find out?"

"Well, eventually, yes. But I wanted to tell him myself. Not for him to find out the way he did."

Luo Jin shook his head. "So how did Dad react? Did he beat Shen Ji Yun up?"

Luo Yan gave his brother a look. Why did he seem so eager for him to say yes, as if he wanted Dad to have actually beaten up Shen Ji Yun? "Thankfully, he didn't."

Then he told his brother everything. How their father had caught them, what had been said in the study afterward, all of it. By the time Luo Yan finished, Luo Jin had gone quiet.

"Dad's probably angry at me and Brother too," Luo Jin said after a long moment. "We helped you keep this from him, after all."

"He's not angry at you and Brother," Luo Yan said, trying to reassure him. "Maybe a little upset, but not angry. This is mostly my fault anyway, so don't worry too much about Dad staying upset with you. Still, you should probably apologize. Just to be safe."

Luo Jin sighed. "Yeah, I'll do that later." He paused. "But does Brother know about this?"

"No, I haven't had a chance to tell him yet," Luo Yan said. "I'll try to bring it up later."

"I'll do it," Luo Jin offered. "That way, the two of us can talk to Dad together."

Luo Yan nodded. Yeah, that would be better.

"But is Shen Ji Yun still coming to the party?" Luo Jin asked.

"He'll be there. He and Uncle Yi Mu are both invited. Uncle Chen and Aunt Xiulan would find it strange if they suddenly didn't show up."

Luo Yan had called Shen Ji Yun after his talk with his father. Shen Ji Yun had been worried after leaving, so Luo Yan reassured him and told him what his father had said about meeting on Sunday for a proper talk. Shen Ji Yun agreed right away. Then he asked if he should still come to the party tonight. Luo Yan told him yes, of course.

"Does Uncle and Aunt know about you two?" Luo Jin questioned.

Luo Yan shook his head. "Not yet. I'll probably have to tell them after the party tonight, since Brother Ji Yun and Uncle Yi Mu are coming over tomorrow to talk with Dad. And knowing them, they'll probably want to be part of that conversation too."

"Wow. That's like meeting the family," Luo Jin said, a touch of sarcasm in his voice. "Can't wait to hear how that conversation goes."

Luo Yan gave his brother a playful punch on the arm. "Hey, don't talk like you're jinxing it. This is my relationship, you know."

Luo Jin rolled his eyes at him. "Yeah, yeah. Come on, let's go. I almost forgot I came here to get you."

"Go on ahead. I'll be right behind you," Luo Yan said. "I just need to fix my hair a little."

Luo Jin glanced at his hair, his face practically saying there was nothing wrong with it and wondering what there was even to fix. But he just shrugged and walked out of the room.

After his brother left, Luo Yan opened the drawer of his study table and pulled out a small velvet box. He tucked it into the inner pocket of his suit jacket. Once he was sure the gift was secure, he headed out the door.
