Chapter 3189: How Could Her Bracelet Be Gone?

The noble young ladies were worried about Ning Shu, and Lianqiao quickly draped a robe over her shoulders, pushing Yin Qing aside in the process.

Yin Qing didn’t mind. She brushed the weeds and grime off herself, only to realize her bracelet was missing.

Her heart gave a heavy thump. How could her bracelet be gone? She looked toward Ning Shu, who was still vomiting up water. There was no bracelet in Ning Shu’s hands.

Could it have fallen into the pond?

Yin Qing clenched her teeth and suddenly plunged back into the water with a splash.

The young men near the Lotus Pavilion immediately brightened. They hadn’t had a chance before, but now there was another opportunity to play the hero and rescue a beauty.

Meanwhile, Yin Qing surfaced again. She was still searching desperately for her bracelet.

That was her treasure! She couldn’t afford to lose it.

With a loud splash, a man leapt into the water and swam powerfully toward Yin Qing.

At last, he succeeded in pulling her into his arms.

Yin Qing was already exhausted, and after Zhuo Cheran pulled her into his embrace, she couldn’t really move.

When Yin Qing and Zhuo Cheran came ashore, Ning Shu quickly ordered Lianqiao to fetch a light cloak for Yin Qing.

However, Zhuo Cheran pushed Lianqiao aside. She was shoved so hard she fell to the ground with a cry of pain.

Zhuo Cheran took a cloak from his servant and wrapped it around the pale-faced Yin Qing.

Then, he looked coldly at Ning Shu and said, “Today I’ve had the honor of witnessing the fine manners of Marquis Xuanping’s household.”

Ning Shu was unruffled. She gave him a proper curtsy and said, “This humble girl doesn’t know what I did wrong to make you so displeased, my lord.

“As for what happened to Miss Yin, I do feel very apologetic. That’s why I had those young men held back earlier—to prevent anyone with bad intentions from taking advantage of her.”

Zhuo Cheran stared at her. Drops of water fell from his hair and trailed down his jade-like face. He gave a sharp, derisive ‘ha.’

Ning Shu: Me too. Hahaha-ha!

“I don’t know where you suddenly came from,” she said evenly. “But what you just did, holding Miss Yin like that in front of so many people, wasn’t protecting her reputation. It was ruining it.”

A hero saving the beauty was so impressive, right? In front of a crowd, no less. He already had a betrothed, and yet he held another woman in his arms and draped her in his own cloak.

All right in front of his betrothed.

Was that how he showed love?

Oh, he was bold, alright. He wasn’t afraid of slander himself. However, regardless, it was still him throwing the one he loved into the fire of public opinion.

Ning Shu took the light cloak from Lianqiao’s hands, walked over, and lifted Zhuo Cheran’s cloak off Yin Qing. She then placed the light cloak over Yin Qing’s shoulders instead.

Yin Qing finally regained her composure. She suppressed her panic over the lost bracelet and gave Zhuo Cheran a respectful curtsy, but said nothing.

Zhuo Cheran fixed a piercing gaze on both Ning Shu and Yin Qing.

Finally, he turned his eyes to Yin Qing. “Come. I’ll have my guards escort you back. This isn’t a place you should be.”

Ning Shu nearly rolled her eyes right there and then.

He thought he was so grand, yet all he was really doing was putting Yin Qing on the spit, roasting her under everyone’s gaze.

The looks from the crowd toward Ning Shu and Yin Qing had already shifted.

In a way, Zhuo Cheran was using the pressure of all those watching to force Yin Qing into compliance, like in those staged confessions where someone brought a whole crowd and had everyone in it chant for them to be together.
