Chapter 3493: Martial Aunt (10)

Chapter 3493: Martial Aunt (10)

If she missed this chance, this girl truly might be beyond saving.

This time, when Ning Shu drew the seal, she infused it with spiritual energy and the power of fiery yang energy. She mixed these with the virgin blood while drawing upon the little girl’s forehead.

The little girl’s eyes flew wide open. Her body spasmed and went rigid before suddenly going limp.

A plume of black mist flew out of the girl’s body and escaped through the window.

Ning Shu intended to give chase. That ghost had been wearing something that looked like armor, which suggested there was surely a precious site nearby. It could be an immortal’s cave dwelling or perhaps an ancient tomb, as some hidden places used raw souls as guardians.

These raw souls would guard such locations forever.

“Fox spirit, what about my sister’s injuries?” the boy shouted anxiously when he saw Ning Shu about to run off.

Ning Shu threw a detoxification pill to the boy and then darted through the mountains, pursuing the raw soul ahead of her.

A raw soul that has escaped a body must return to its place of origin. Ning Shu suspected there were good things to be found there.

She wrapped herself in a water barrier to mask her form and scent so the entity would not notice her.

The barrier also blocked out the miasma. That little girl had certainly wandered far. It was impressive she had managed to find her way back without getting lost.

If there truly were some fated opportunity here, she would seize it for herself if she could. If she could not, she would inform her sect, and then she would still be able to get a small share of the rewards.

The raw soul flew straight through a stone wall. This was a mountain peak that towered high over the jungle. It was massive, yet it looked as though it had been sliced in half by something. The cut was perfectly smooth, suggesting the peak had once been even taller.

Ning Shu knocked on the stone wall. It felt solid, which made her wonder how the ghost had slipped inside.

She released her mental strength to try and probe the interior of the rock, but her spiritual consciousness was swallowed up. She saw nothing at all.

Ning Shu touched the stone. It felt like ordinary rock and did not seem special in any way.

She walked all the way around the massive peak but found no entrance. She flew up and saw that even the top where the mountain had been severed was nothing but flat stone.

Had she truly just seen a ghost?

She had watched with her own eyes as a spirit drifted into the rock.

There had to be something strange about this place, but she had not yet found the key.

Ning Shu drew her flying sword and poured spiritual energy into it. She struck the rock with all her might, but the blow only left a faint white mark. It was no damn use.

If this were ordinary rock, her sword would have left a much deeper gash.

Ning Shu felt as though she had found a treasure chest but lacked the key to open it.

There was certainly something extraordinary about this mountain, but she was ignorant of its secrets.

Truly, the world was full of wonders.

There might be treasure right in front of her, but she could not get her hands on it.

It was frustrating.

Ning Shu hovered in the air, flying up and down as she observed the massive peak from every angle.

The methods available in the cultivation world were endless, and she really did not know how to proceed.

She decided to observe a bit longer. If she still could not figure it out, she would send a message to her sect and let Zisha Island send people over. She would just follow behind them and take whatever scraps she could get.

Something was better than nothing.

Ning Shu returned the way she had come. When she reached the thatched hut, the boy came out to meet her. His eyes lit up when he saw her.

“Immortal, you have returned,” he said.

“It seems you knew I would return?” Ning Shu raised an eyebrow.

The boy scratched his head. “I saw you leave in a hurry to chase something, but I figured you would definitely have questions for me when you came back.”

Ning Shu looked at him askance. This little brat was quite sharp and clever.

She went inside and sat on a chair. The boy poured her some tea. Ning Shu watched him, thinking that when someone is unusually kind, they are either up to no good or they want something, especially when that someone is a clever child.

“Please have some tea, Immortal,” the boy said.

Ning Shu hummed and took a sip from the bowl. The water was unexpectedly sweet and refreshing, and it contained a trace of spiritual energy.

She finished the water in one gulp and asked, “How is your sister?”

The boy immediately knelt. “I beg Immortal to grant another celestial pill. My sister has still not woken up.”

Ning Shu stood up and went into the inner room. The little girl lying on the bed still had a dark complexion. Though she looked better than before, her face was still unrecognizable.

Ning Shu took out a detoxification pill and a fasting pill and tucked them into the girl’s mouth.

A fasting pill could provide all the nutrition one’s body required.

Once the girl had swallowed the two pills, her complexion improved slightly.

The boy finally smiled. “Whatever Immortal wishes to ask, this boy will tell you everything he knows.”

Ning Shu liked sensible children like this.

“Does this village have any bizarre legends? Specifically, anything about that severed peak?”

Even though legends were often exaggerated, they usually contained traces left by cultivators.

For a mountain that large to be sliced in half, it had to be the work of a powerful master. No ordinary person could achieve such a thing.

She wanted to see what stories had been passed down.

The boy scratched his head. “You mean Jianzhan Peak? There are not many legends. I only heard from the village elders that this mountain was not originally here. Someone moved it here. I heard there is a mass grave beneath it.”

A mass grave. It was likely not a mass grave. If it were, the area would be incredibly cold and eerie. The surrounding magnetic field would be in total chaos, and anyone who entered it would either die or go mad.

Ning Shu was certain it was not a mass grave. This place was so desolate that unless there had been a massive war, there was no reason for so many people to be buried here.

“Aside from that, is there anything else?” Ning Shu asked.

“What sort of things do you want to hear?” the boy asked.

“Everything,” Ning Shu said.

The boy thought for a moment. “Some villagers say that in the past, mountain spirits and monsters caused a lot of trouble. There was a monster that was incredibly powerful and ate everyone in the vicinity. An immortal came to subdue the beast, but because it was too strong, he could only suppress it beneath Jianzhan Peak.”

Ning Shu propped her chin in her hand as she listened to these legends, turning them over in her mind.

Setting everything else aside, she felt the peak itself was a treasure.

Ning Shu propped her chin in her hand as she listened to these legends, turning them over in her mind.

Setting everything else aside, she felt the peak itself was a treasure.

However, this region was truly desolate. The cultivation world was vast beyond measure, and many places were completely uninhabited.

Seeing Ning Shu lost in thought, the boy did not dare disturb her. He brought out the only few eggs in the house, intending to serve them to her.

Ning Shu’s eyes swept over one of the eggs. It was quite large, roughly the size of a goose egg.

“Bring that here for me to see,” Ning Shu said, reaching out her hand. She then asked casually, “What is your name?”

“My name is Ye Heyu. My father was a schoolteacher, and he gave me the name Heyu.”

He handed the egg to Ning Shu.

Ning Shu took the egg and looked it over. She sent her spiritual consciousness through the shell and was suddenly surprised.
