Chapter 3502: Martial Aunt (19)

Chapter 3502: Martial Aunt (19)

What is wrong with my Master?

Does she really not have any expectations for me?

“Is Master dissatisfied with me?” Ye Heyu asked.

Ning Shu replied, “Where is this coming from? What do you mean, ‘dissatisfied’?”

“My father was a schoolteacher. He always demanded that I read more and know more than the other children because I was a teacher’s son,” Ye Heyu explained. “Master has no requirements for me at all, which actually makes me feel uneasy.”

Ning Shu: …

“In that case, just focus on gaining some combat experience,” Ning Shu said.

Following a grand and blood-pumping pre-match declaration from the sect leader, the competition began. There were several arenas hosting both individual and team matches.

Ning Shu had signed both children up for everything without a second thought. Ye Heyu looked conflicted. “Master, I do not know anyone on Zisha Island. I am afraid I will be out of my depth in the team matches.”

“That is exactly why you need to communicate and socialize with others. Go get ’em, Pikachu!”

Ye Heyu couldn’t help but feel that his master was a bit of a swindler.

As the matches began, the elders of the various peaks sat on the high platform to observe.

This was a test of the disciples’ cultivation progress. Some elders struck up conversations with Ning Shu, asking if she had recruited two new disciples.

Ning Shu nodded, explaining that she had found them during her recent travels.

The sect leader sat enthusiastically in the center of the platform, ready to inspect the future pillars of the sect. The young disciples were the future. Without fresh blood to bridge the generational gap, the sect would surely decline.

Yi Youxuan was naturally participating in these matches, and she essentially ended every fight in a single second.

At first, the sect leader was full of praise, exclaiming that her strength was impressive. However, his expression soon soured as every disciple who stepped up to face her was blown away in an instant.

As soon as they got onto the stage, they were knocked right off.

Before long, the faces of the sect leader and the other peak elders were as dark as soot. Every disciple who went up against Yi Youxuan met the same fate.

The sect leader rested his head in his hand, with his elbow propped up on the arm of his chair. He leaned his head to the side and watched the arena with a blank, hollow expression.

The elders felt that the matches in that arena had become almost painful to watch.

Ning Shu watched the competition with a smile and noticed that Ye Heyu had actually won two matches. He had started out clumsy, but he seemed to have found his rhythm.

The little girl, Ye Meiyu, hadn’t lasted even a single match. She looked at Ning Shu piteously, but Ning Shu simply said, “It is fine.”

After all, there were plenty of other losers today.

Ye Heyu walked over to Ning Shu’s side and greeted her. Ning Shu nodded. “Not bad. You exceeded my expectations.”

“I have browsed through the jade slips on Lanzhu Peak, so I have a basic understanding of the sect’s techniques,” Ye Heyu said. His face was dripping with sweat as he gave a toothy grin. “When my opponents used their moves, I knew the counters. I won by pure luck.”

Ning Shu raised an eyebrow. “Good, very good.”

Someone like Ye Heyu would likely have achieved great things even in the mortal world.

A qilin is no mere creature of the pond. Once it encounters wind and clouds, it transforms into a dragon.

Ning Shu said with a smile, “In that case, keep working hard. Try to push your rank as high as possible so that I can fight for more cultivation resources on your behalf.”

“Thank you, Master. I will work hard!” Ye Heyu’s smile was radiant. The young man was full of heroic spirit, like a young bamboo shoot growing tall and firm.

Yi Youxuan kicked several more opponents off the stage. Her matches were the shortest by far. While other arenas were locked in grueling battles, Yi Youxuan simply stood on her stage. Her hair was tied in a waist-length ponytail, and her beautiful, armor-like clothing accentuated the graceful curves of her body.

She was a true goddess—gallant, valiant, and possessing a stunning silhouette.

Ye Heyu whispered to Ning Shu, “Senior Sister Yi is so strong.”

This was just the tip of the iceberg. Currently, Yi Youxuan hadn’t even brought out her divine artifacts.

The sect leader said to Qi Cheng, “That disciple of yours is quite something.”

Even if she is a bit defiant and arrogant.

And to say ‘a bit’ was being generous.

Qi Cheng cupped his hands. “Sect Leader, the child’s strength is decent, but her character still needs tempering.”

“It certainly does.” The sect leader watched silently as Yi Youxuan kicked another disciple off the arena, and he rubbed his forehead in frustration.

This had practically become Yi Youxuan’s personal showcase. It was clear she was aiming for the hidden realm.

The hidden realm was only open to those below the Golden Core realm. Anyone above that level would be repelled by the barrier.

Ning Shu watched Yi Youxuan silently, thinking about how she could trip her up.

Yi Youxuan practiced Divine Dao manuals, so her base strength was already immense. Even though she hadn’t formed her golden core yet, with her divine artifacts and endless array of tricks and trump cards, even an early-stage Nascent Soul cultivator might not be her match.

Even without her divine artifacts, none of these disciples were a match for her.

Even if they started at the same point, Yi Youxuan was already several laps ahead, leaving everyone in the same tier far behind.

The other disciples looked at the arrogant Yi Youxuan on stage but were truly helpless. They couldn’t beat her, and it was infuriating to see her make their senior brothers cough up blood.

Even Qi Cheng, her own master, couldn’t watch anymore. He said to her, “Youxuan, take a break. Let the other disciples continue their matches.”

Yi Youxuan still showed some respect for her master. Without even breaking a sweat, she stepped down from the arena, ignoring the looks of hatred, strangeness, and worship from the other disciples.

The competition continued, though the elders on the platform still looked as if their faces had been smeared with soot.

Ye Heyu went through two more matches and, luckily, won them both. Ning Shu couldn’t help but ask, “Are you hiding your true strength?”

Given how clear his meridians were, she wondered if the boy was already on the verge of Foundation Establishment.

On second thought, she realized he was likely just being clever. Ye Heyu was specifically targeting his opponents’ weaknesses.

Ye Heyu shook his head. “Master, that was the extent of my power. The matches will only get harder from here. I do not think I can go much further.”

“It is fine. You have done very well. If you exclude the unlucky souls who ran into Yi Youxuan at the start, you could be considered among the top hundred.” Ning Shu smoothed her brow. “We will just take it one step at a time.”

“Next match: Yi Youxuan of Longliang Hall versus Ye Heyu of Lanzhu Peak.”

Ye Heyu looked helpless. It seemed this would be his final battle.

Ning Shu took out a jade pendant and had Ye Heyu hang it at his waist. “There is a defensive formation inside this. Be careful not to get injured like your senior brothers and sisters. It is not worth having to lie in bed for half a month.”

Ye Heyu hung the pendant and stepped onto the arena.

Ning Shu watched the two of them on stage. She was slightly worried that Yi Youxuan might use her as an excuse to strike a lethal blow against Ye Heyu or do something to ruin his cultivation path.

The disciples below the stage shook their heads one after another.

Another one looking for death. He’s just going to get kicked off. Sigh…

Ye Heyu remained steady in the face of Yi Youxuan. He politely cupped his hands and said, “Senior Sister Yi, please advise me.”

Yi Youxuan’s expression was indifferent. Her movements were swift and her momentum was overwhelming. She used a single move to knock Ye Heyu off the stage, and she even shattered the defensive formation on his body. The jade pendant exploded into pieces. One could see how much power she had poured into that sword strike.
