Chapter 3523: Owner (4)

Chapter 3523: Owner (4)

“I’ll take you to the pharmacy to buy some medicine. Can you walk right now?” Ying Zhi asked Chen Hong.

Chen Hong nodded. “Then I’ll have to trouble you. I’ll go with you.”

Chen Hong felt around for her cane and moved toward Ying Zhi, who was a blurry shadow standing by the door.

She reached out and felt Ying Zhi’s arm. “Please take me to buy some medicine,” she said.

Ying Zhi stammered slightly as he replied, “Okay, okay. I’ll hold your cane and lead you.”

Ying Zhi fumbled around until he caught hold of Chen Hong’s cane. Ning Shu then led the two of them out of the shop and toward a pharmacy.

Ying Zhi and Chen Hong held their canes, following closely behind Ning Shu. When it was time to cross the street, Ying Zhi said, “We’re going to cross the street now. We need to stop for a moment.”

Chen Hong stopped and said, “Even though your eyesight is worse than ours, having Beibei by your side makes things much more convenient.”

Ying Zhi gave a sound of agreement. “Beibei is very obedient and capable.”

While they waited for the traffic light, quite a few people stared at Ying Zhi and Chen Hong. However, both of them looked perfectly calm. They couldn’t feel the strange looks from the people around them at all, nor could they see them whispering and discussing their situation.

Being forced to be isolated from the beauty of the world also isolated them from the harm of the outside world.

There was no need to look at others’ expressions. They could simply ignore the way people looked at them because they couldn’t see it.

When the green light turned on, Ning Shu led the two of them into the pharmacy across the street.

Ying Zhi said to the clerk, “Do you have any burn ointment? Please find some for her and help her apply it to her hand. Is it serious? Does she need to go to the hospital?”

Chen Hong didn’t say a word from behind him. She simply watched Ying Zhi’s blurry, almost invisible figure with a smile.

“Please give her the best burn ointment,” Ying Zhi emphasized.

The clerk brought out the ointment and told Chen Hong how to use it and how many times a day to apply it.

Ning Shu checked the price of the medicine. The clerk hadn’t lied. It was being sold according to the price tag and wasn’t very expensive. A medicine like this only cost about thirty-some yuan. Charging a few extra yuan wouldn’t make them much of a profit or make them rich, and there was no point in bullying a person with a disability.

Their conscience would probably hurt too much.

Ying Zhi wanted to pay the bill, but Chen Hong paid it herself. “At most, we are just colleagues. I’m already very grateful that you brought me to the pharmacy. If you pay for the medicine too, I’ll really feel bad about it.”

Ying Zhi couldn’t find a reason to argue with her, so he could only take back his money.

Ning Shu sat on the floor and looked sideways at the dejected Ying Zhi, lifting a leg to nudge him.

Ying Zhi thought about it and said, “Well, since your hand is injured, you definitely can’t work. How about I walk you home?”

Chen Hong rejected Ying Zhi’s offer. “No need. My house is a bit far from here, and my family is coming to pick me up. If you try to walk me home, you won’t be able to find your way back later. Besides, Beibei has never been to my house before.”

Ying Zhi: …

That was a bit painful.

Ning Shu didn’t even need to look to know how upset Ying Zhi felt right now.

“I’ll have to trouble you to lead me back to the shop,” Chen Hong said. She felt around until she found Ning Shu and bumped her head against the dog’s. “Thank you, Beibei.”

The return trip was quiet, and neither of them spoke. The atmosphere was likely just too awkward. Ying Zhi held it in for a long time before finally managing to squeeze out a question: “Which family member is coming to pick you up?”

“My brother,” Chen Hong said.

Then Ying Zhi failed to find another topic, and they fell into silence again. Ning Shu, walking in front, almost wanted to kneel down in frustration. At the very least, he should have asked how many people were in her family or when her brother would arrive.

He could have talked about the wound or reminded her to be careful not to eat spicy or cold foods. Anything would be better than this awkward silence.

Ying Zhi eventually asked, “Where do you live?”

“It takes a while to get there. It’s six bus stops away.”

Chen Hong gave her home address, and Ying Zhi recited it silently several times to memorize it firmly.

The two fell into another silence. Once they returned to the shop, Ying Zhi was called away to work. He thought for a moment and said, “Take more rest and take a few days off.”

It was hot summer weather, so a burn would definitely be serious.

“I know. Thank you,” Chen Hong said politely.

That ‘thank you’ made Ying Zhi feel a bit uncomfortable. He waved his hand and said, “No need for thanks.”

Ning Shu even heard Chen Hong whisper ‘dummy’ very quietly.

Ning Shu stuck out her tongue. Wasn’t he exactly that? A dummy.

Chen Hong’s family picked her up and took her away. As for Ying Zhi, he remained somewhat absent-minded. He finished work at nine o’clock in the evening and went home. After washing up briefly, he lay in bed, tossing and turning instead of sleeping.

Every time he moved, the bed creaked. A dog’s hearing was very sharp, so Ning Shu used her front paws to cover her ears.

I’m not listening, I’m not listening. It’s just a bunch of nonsense.

Ying Zhi kept tossing and turning. Ning Shu looked at the clock. It was already past midnight. He had gone to bed before ten and had been restless ever since.

Ying Zhi sat up and fumbled his way out of bed to get some water. Ning Shu rested her head on the floor, staring at him.

Actually, Ying Zhi was quite good-looking, and many female customers specifically sought him out for massages.

However, because he was blind, it was inconvenient in many ways, making it difficult for him to find a wife.

Chen Hong clearly had some feelings for him, but Ying Zhi kept avoiding her. Ying Zhi probably liked Chen Hong too, but he was very clumsy about it.

When two people who can’t see get together, they might be able to help each other, or their lives might become even more difficult.

“Beibei,” Ying Zhi knelt down to pet Ning Shu.

Ning Shu: …

Don’t just pet me whenever you feel like it.

“Beibei, do you think I should bring some fruit to visit Chen Hong tomorrow?” Ying Zhi sat beside Ning Shu and stroked her, seemingly asking for her opinion.

“If you agree, bark once. If you don’t agree, bark twice. If you really don’t agree, bark five times,” Ying Zhi said.

Ning Shu: …

He was really making things difficult for a dog. Bark five times for ‘really don’t agree’? Would a normal dog remember that it had barked five times?

Just go if you want to go. Don’t blame the dog!

Ning Shu gave a soft bark. Ying Zhi said, “So you agree I should go. Then I’ll go tomorrow.”

With his mind finally at ease, Ying Zhi stopped being restless. He woke up very early the next morning—even before Ning Shu could wake him.

He shaved in the bathroom and put on a shirt, so he quite handsome.

Ning Shu tilted her head and looked at Ying Zhi, thinking, ‘Do you even know how to get there?’

Ying Zhi washed his face and wiped it with a towel.

“I need to check which bus goes to Chen Hong’s house,” he said.

Ying Zhi placed the dog food and water in front of Ning Shu. “Beibei, we’re going to a new place today. Good luck!”

Generally, people who couldn’t see would rarely venture beyond their familiar surroundings. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to find their way home.

Ning Shu barked. After finishing breakfast, she and Ying Zhi headed out.

Ying Zhi went to a fruit shop and bought a basket of fruit. Holding Ning Shu’s leash in one hand and the fruit basket in the other, he headed toward the bus station.

He was off to meet the family.
