Chapter 3558: Medusa (24)
Athena was rattled by the lightning dragon, and with so many unanswered questions weighing on her mind, she used her scepter to directly absorb the lightning.
The scepter crackled and shook. It was likely vibrating because it had absorbed too much power at once.
Ning Shu remained unfazed by this.
Athena pointed the trembling scepter at her and demanded, “Who is behind you?
“Is your sword pointed at Olympus?” Athena asked.
Ning Shu threw up her hands and said, “If you’re asking a question, could you show a little sincerity? I’m not going to tell you anything if you have that attitude.”
Athena let out a scoff from the back of her throat, her contempt plain to see.
Anyone could scoff. Ning Shu scoffed right back.
Ning Shu thought for a moment and flew straight toward the Temple of Athena. Athena was instantly alarmed and gave chase, shouting, “What do you think you’re doing?”
Ning Shu reached out and flicked the massive statue in front of the temple with her finger.
Although Ning Shu’s finger looked slender and weak, as if it possessed no power at all, the giant statue actually trembled twice from the flick. If Ning Shu had used even a little more force, the statue of Athena would have toppled over.
Athena was so angry that her hair practically stood on end. Dark clouds filled the sky and fierce winds began to howl. The goddess was enraged!
Ning Shu released her celestial energy. A dragon composed of thousands of stars roared out from her body and coiled itself around the massive statue.
The dragon gave a powerful squeeze, and the statue of Athena began to crack. Finally, it crumbled into a pile of rubble.
“You’ve gone too far!” Athena watched her divine image be destroyed and was consumed by rage. A massive thunderclap shook the heavens, and the earth began to tremble as an earthquake started.
With the wind howling, the ground shaking, and dark clouds blotting out the sun, it looked like the end of the world. The people of Athens were terrified. It was happening again! Their houses hadn’t even been fully repaired yet, so why was this starting again?
Ning Shu said, “Don’t be like that. You’re destroying your own city.”
Dammit! Athena was about to explode with fury. This woman had bullied her right at her own doorstep, and now she was hypocritically pretending to care about her subjects and her city-state.
Thunder continued to roar in the sky. The dark clouds had already hidden the sun, leaving the entire world as dark as a windowless room.
The people in Athens trembled, feeling that the gods might have abandoned them.
Ning Shu didn’t care about this display at all. Even when lightning struck her, she simply absorbed the power and converted it into her own.
Considering that Athena’s scepter could absorb lightning, Ning Shu stopped releasing lightning dragons. Instead, she unleashed dragons made of celestial energy and fiery yang energy.
The roaring fire dragon charged at Athena. In the darkened world, the blazing dragon was eye-catching, ominous, and dangerous, as if it were about to destroy everything.
Athena held up her shield. This shield directly blocked the fire dragon’s attack, and a massive storm wind annihilated the dragon.
Athena’s shield was an aegis, lent to her by Zeus.
Once the Aegis was swung, it would generate a storm of such immense power that no one could withstand it. When Zeus held the Aegis, the sky would be clear for thousands of miles, but once he thrust it into the air, there would be immediate thunder and lightning as the weather changed drastically.
Later, Zeus lent the shield to the goddess Athena, and thus the shield had two sides.
These two sides were different, but possessed equally immense power. It was indestructible, and qualities like combat and ferocity were contained within it.
This shield was extraordinary the moment it was used. Ning Shu was in no hurry, however, and released her celestial energy. The celestial energy was the greatest of all her energies, as it contained the collective strength of thousands of stars.
The celestial energy dragon rushed straight at Athena. Ning Shu then pointed her finger toward the sky above Athens and established a boundary.
Once they truly started fighting, Athena wouldn’t care about the humans in her city-state.
Furthermore, both of them were now fueled by intense anger. Once the battle became reckless, it was possible the entire city would be destroyed. To avoid losing her own merit points, Ning Shu set up a boundary to protect the city from the aftershocks of the battle and prevent any loss of life.
While the celestial energy dragon fought Athena, Ning Shu manifested a scepter in her own hand. Since everyone liked using scepters as weapons, she would follow the local custom. It felt high-end, elegant, and classy.
Ning Shu raised her scepter and struck at Athena, coordinating with the celestial energy dragon to flank her.
Athena was starting to feel a bit overwhelmed, but she was a goddess of war after all, and her combat strength was off the charts.
Athena’s hair flew in the wind and her armor grew increasingly bright. She was a truly majestic war goddess.
Ning Shu didn’t want a prolonged stalemate. She wanted to annihilate Athena’s godhead. A god’s power was seemingly endless, and besides Athena, there were countless other gods. Holding her own against a single Athena was not something to be particularly proud of.
There were many other powerful gods besides her. If they all came to besiege her at once, Ning Shu could only scoff.
She had to produce an effective, decisive power that could destroy or intimidate the gods.
Ning Shu kept trying to find a way to annihilate a godhead.
Her fingers moved rapidly as she performed hand seals, drawing a talisman in the air. “Freeze!”
The talisman hit Athena, and her body was immediately locked in place. However, in the next second, her body trembled slightly as she prepared to break the spell.
Ning Shu immediately mobilized the fiery yang energy, spiritual energy, celestial energy, and lightning energy within her body.
She compressed the four energies. She had to balance them, and since they were all different, merging them was extremely difficult.
Cold sweat broke out on Ning Shu’s forehead. She didn’t dare relax her mind for a moment, using all her mental strength to fuse the powers. She was fully concentrated, not daring to be careless. Otherwise, these violent, mutually-repelling forces would blow her up instead.
Athena quickly shook off the control of the talisman and released a powerful bolt of lightning from her scepter toward Ning Shu.
It instantly frizzed Ning Shu’s hair again, and the fused power in her internal core nearly collapsed.
Ning Shu drew another talisman in the air, freezing Athena once more.
The four energies transformed into a tiny needle that flew out at high speed, shooting directly into the center of Athena’s brow. Once the compressed power was no longer under the control of Ning Shu’s mental strength, it immediately exploded within Athena’s mind.
Athena clutched her head in agony while blood was seeping from her eyes, nose, and mouth.
Athena let out a sky-rending scream. “Vile human! I will kill you and make you endure the torment of the fires of the underworld day and night!”
A massive storm began to swirl around Athena, protecting her within the center of a hurricane.
