Chapter 3565: Medusa (31)
Ning Shu dodged the lightning, which struck the walls and pillars of the undersea palace instead. The overburdened palace teetered, and a wall collapsed under the ravages of the divine lightning.
The lightning failed to hit Ning Shu and began to chase her, all while continuously tearing the palace apart.
Finally, the palace reached its breaking point and came crashing down with a thunderous boom, reduced to a pile of rubble.
The patrols watching from a distance saw their palace turned into scrap and felt a deep sense of dread. What had happened? Where was Lord Poseidon?
Ning Shu swam out from the wreckage and headed straight for the surface. Zeus followed behind in his chariot, chasing her out of the water.
Standing on the surface of the sea, Ning Shu pointed a finger. Seawater surged up to envelop the lightning bolt striking at her. The lightning was incredibly sharp and sliced right through the water, but as the saying goes, you couldn’t cut water with a blade. The soft, yielding water successfully blocked the roaring divine power.
Ning Shu compressed her needles and shot them at Zeus. He blocked them directly with his shield. Meanwhile, streams of water coiled around Zeus’s ankles, slowly snaking up his calves.
Zeus looked down at the water and tried to shake his legs to throw it off, but the water clung to his ankles. With a flick of Ning Shu’s finger, the water around his legs instantly turned to ice, freezing him in place.
More streams of seawater wrapped around Zeus’s body until he was frozen solid into a massive block of ice.
Ning Shu was panting from being chased by Zeus’s lightning. She immediately activated her Unsurpassable Martial Arts and released a celestial energy dragon. The celestial energy dragon swallowed a bolt of lightning whole, but the energy thrashed around inside its body before finally bursting out.
Damn it!
Ning Shu cursed inwardly. She had only just mastered the power of lightning in this world. This energy was even more volatile than fiery yang energy and was inherently difficult to control since she lacked experience. Moreover, Zeus was the lord of lightning, meaning the power sometimes refused to obey her commands entirely.
One mountain couldn’t hold two tigers—not even a male and a female one. Only one person could truly master the power of lightning. Right now, Ning Shu was simply being outclassed.
Cracks began to spiderweb across the ice sculpture holding Zeus until it exploded with a loud bang. Ice shards flew everywhere, reflecting the bright sunlight.
Ning Shu hadn’t expected to deal with Zeus this way. She just wanted to trap him for as long as possible.
Zeus looked at the disheveled Ning Shu and asked, “Do you also possess the power of the ice god?”
Freezing things for miles was, after all, the domain of the ice god.
Ning Shu could only continue using water to block the lightning, but the bolts were unstoppable. They cut through whatever was in front of them, refusing to yield to any obstacle. Their sharpness was on par with a metal-attribute world origin.
Zeus’s expression grew grave. As the battle dragged on, he felt more and more that this woman was a true threat. She could control water and turn it to ice. Her appearance was a catastrophe for the gods of Olympus.
He couldn’t let her live, or the rule of the gods would be shaken. He could make her a deity and grant her a title, but to kill a god and then receive glory would be far too humiliating. It would be like slapping his own face. He couldn’t stomach it.
He had to kill the brat.
Zeus unleashed another powerful bolt, trapping Ning Shu between two streams of lightning.
Ning Shu: …
Since he was taking advantage of her inability to control lightning at will, she pointed her finger and sent a massive wave crashing toward him. Zeus gave a cold sneer. Did she really think a wave of this level could threaten him?
Although Zeus was soaked by the wave, he suffered no actual damage. Ning Shu flicked her finger again, and ice began to form on his body once more, turning him back into a frozen statue.
While dodging the lightning, she pointed her finger to raise a large amount of water. She heated the water to its boiling point and poured the scalding seawater over the ice sculpture. The rapid alternation between extreme cold and heat would cause blood vessels to burst, much like how a frozen glass cup explodes when hot water is poured into it.
In that moment of distraction, a bolt of lightning struck Ning Shu in the back. She felt a heart-wrenching pain and fell into the sea with a splash.
Even so, the lightning followed Ning Shu into the depths, determined to cut her down. Ning Shu was suffering, but Zeus wasn’t having an easy time either. Although his body was indestructible, he still had a breaking point. The rapid change in temperature caused the blood vessels in his exposed skin to burst, sending sprays of golden blood everywhere.
Ning Shu flickered back into existence in front of Zeus and reached out to grab his arm. She easily tore a handful of flesh from his limb, exposing the pale bone beneath.
Zeus glared at her through gritted teeth. “How dare you!”
No one had ever managed to harm his body like this before.
Ning Shu’s own back was a bloody mess, but she only smiled. “I’ve never been hurt like this either. This is only the second time.”
It was only the second time she had been beaten into such a bloody state.
Golden blood flowed down Zeus’s face. “It seems you also possess the power of the fire god.”
Only his son, the god of fire, should be able to heat water like that.
Ning Shu shook her head. “You’re overthinking it.”
It was simply a different state of water.
All objects had the ability to absorb heat, but how much depended on the substance itself. Her water could become hot simply because it absorbed the heat from its surroundings.
Ning Shu’s face was pale. The lightning strike to her back left lingering electricity that crackled painfully and felt like salt rubbed into a wound or needles being driven into her bones.
She absorbed the lightning from her wound while continuing to dodge more incoming strikes. Being chased by this damn thing was enough to make her swear.
She placed several boundaries in front of her to buy time. Standing within them, she quickly mobilized her spiritual energy to heal the wound on her back.
Zeus’s condition was also poor. The two of them faced each other from a distance. Ning Shu knew she couldn’t let this drag on. If Zeus summoned his companions to join the fight, she would definitely be overwhelmed.
But what could she do? Zeus was the king of the gods, and his power was not to be underestimated. The possibility of killing him was… well, a bit slim. However, if she fled now, Zeus would surely return with an army to hunt her down.
At that point, she would have to face all the gods in the sky, essentially making herself an enemy of the entire world. Changing one’s fate was incredibly difficult, and Ning Shu was now in a position where a single move affected everything else.
Therefore, regardless of whether Zeus lived or died, she could not allow him to return to Mount Olympus.
As of now, only Athena, Poseidon, and Zeus were involved in this mess. The other gods had yet to be dragged in.
If she let Zeus go back, he would likely assemble a host of deities to destroy her. Even if she were a superhuman, she couldn’t handle that many gods. They weren’t exactly pushovers.
