Chapter 3569: Medusa (35)
Ning Shu barely managed to block the curse, and she was not particularly satisfied with the result. If it had been a more malicious curse, the talisman would not have held.
Ning Shu felt a bit powerless, while Zeus felt even more speechless. The divine punishment he had just unleashed was incredibly severe—a curse that would turn her into the lone star of calamity—yet she had blocked it.
What on earth was that? This was a power he was unfamiliar with and had never seen before.
Ning Shu set about improving the talismans by adding formations. Combining the two would surely drain the curse’s power significantly. To put it simply, the talisman’s role was to act as a substitute for the person being cursed.
Ning Shu mobilized the spiritual energy in her dantian and began to draw. This was a brand-new type of talisman she was innovating, and she had already failed to create it several times.
Eventually, Ning Shu put down her magical pen and stretched her wrists. Nearby were some fruits the firebird had picked on the island. They were bright red and looked very appetizing.
Ning Shu took a bite of a fruit. Noticing Zeus staring straight at her, she asked, “Do you want some?”
Zeus said nothing. His golden hair was plastered against his face, and he looked like a portrait of a handsome man fresh from a bath. His long eyelashes were damp with water, making them look even more prominent, and his eyes were glistening.
There was no denying Zeus’s good looks. If he weren’t handsome, he wouldn’t have fathered the dashing Apollo, the beautiful Athena, and all those other lovely goddesses. Their good genes were the foundation to their beauty.
Seeing that Zeus wouldn’t speak, Ning Shu simply munched on her fruit and went back to drawing talismans.
The process almost completely drained her mental energy. By the time she finished a talisman, her face was deathly pale. She immediately sat cross-legged to cultivate.
Once she felt a little better, she intended to have Zeus curse her again. She had to find a permanent solution to prevent the gods from cursing her.
After finishing her cultivation, Ning Shu said to Zeus, “Curse me. Give me a big one.”
Zeus: …
Zeus was ready to explode. What was she doing? What did she take him for? Did she think he would just curse her whenever she felt like it? No one had ever actively requested divine punishment before. Besides, he had to pay a price to unleash it.
Zeus stared at her. “Do you truly want me to curse you?”
“Of course.” Ning Shu nodded. “Go ahead. Don’t hold back.”
“In my name as the king of the gods, i summon the god of the underworld from the depths of the underworld. Come forth upon the path of death and take away this human who has offended the majesty of the gods!” Zeus stared fixedly at Ning Shu as ancient, chant-like tones spilled from his lips.
Ning Shu nearly jumped out of her skin. Holy shit, this was bad. Zeus was trying to summon Hades. If Hades actually showed up, he would be very difficult to deal with.
Zeus watched Ning Shu with a trace of contempt on his lips, as if enjoying her panic.
As the final syllable of Zeus’s chant ended, the entire sky turned black. A swirling vortex appeared in the heavens, and a hand was the first thing to reach out from it.
She couldn’t let Hades get through. With a flick of her finger, Ning Shu placed a boundary over the black hole in the sky. Then, she directed the seawater to surge into the vortex.
The black hole swallowed the water, while Ning Shu continuously recited the Pure Land Rebirth Mantra in her heart. Since these were creatures of hell, the Pure Land Rebirth Mantra ought to be effective.
Ning Shu continuously reinforced the boundary and set up a yang gathering formation. Beings from hell were creatures of the dark attribute and feared the light. By gathering the surrounding yang energy, she could make Hades uncomfortable enough to hopefully retreat back to the underworld.
“Hades! Brother! Come out quickly!” Zeus shouted the moment he saw what was happening.
Dammit, what a mess.
Seawater poured relentlessly into the black hole. Hades had already stepped one foot out, but he was blocked by the boundary. Furthermore, the water was pouring through the portal and straight into his realm.
If this continued, the underworld would be flooded. This was water from the mortal realm, which was entirely different from the waters of the underworld.
Hades had no choice but to close the black hole and vanish.
Hades left without even showing his face. Ning Shu never even saw what he looked like, only catching a glimpse of a hand and a foot. Regardless, his failure to appear allowed Ning Shu to breathe a sigh of relief.
The black hole in the sky vanished, and the clear, blue sky returned.
The little firebird, which had been hiding in Ning Shu’s cleavage, cautiously poked its head out to check the surroundings.
Ning Shu grabbed it and tossed it away. What was wrong with this thing? It was one thing to be a coward and hide, but why did it have to crawl into her shirt? Scram!
Zeus watched his vanishing brother in stony silence. He wished Hades had at least stuck around long enough to see him so he could report back to the gods on Mount Olympus and send someone to rescue him!
Ning Shu wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. She had almost been exposed—or perhaps she already had been. It seemed her current situation was becoming precarious.
Ning Shu glared at Zeus. He said coldly, “You were the one who asked me to curse you.”
It was Ning Shu’s own miscalculation. She hadn’t expected Zeus to summon Hades. That had been entirely outside her predictions. Furthermore, she lacked a deep understanding of the gods’ true capabilities. After all, the original Medusa had been nothing more than a humble, ordinary priestess.
Gods were omnipotent. One could not question the gods. That had been Medusa’s mindset in the past.
Now she had to deal with Zeus, otherwise more problems would crop up. Ning Shu’s plan was to secretly get rid of him. Once the gods realized Zeus was dead, they would hold a new election for the king of the gods.
But now that Hades had appeared, even if it were only out of brotherly concern, he would surely notify the other gods of Mount Olympus.
Ning Shu opened her hand. The thunderbolt weapon, still encased in its boundary, flew into her palm. Even with the seal, the weapon continued to crackle with immense lightning power.
The most important task now was to destroy this weapon. Without it, the king of the gods would no longer be such a massive threat. Furthermore, without his weapon, Zeus wouldn’t be able to suppress the gods beneath him, and they would surely rise up to rebel.
Ning Shu covered the thunderbolt in frost, freezing it solid. This ice was equivalent to thousand-year-old permafrost. She continuously compressed seawater and then froze it around the weapon.
After a period of freezing, Ning Shu plunged the thunderbolt into boiling water. She used celestial energy to manifest a massive hammer and used all her strength to strike the weapon while it was undergoing the extreme temperature shift.
Logically, this rapid alternation between hot and cold should make the object brittle and easier to break.
The thunderbolt was a weapon forged by the Cyclopes. Since it was a weapon, it could be destroyed.
Ning Shu gripped the giant hammer and rained down blow after blow upon the thunderbolt with lightning speed. The sheer force of her strikes caused the entire deserted island to tremble.
The thunderbolt continued to flash with lightning power. For a long while, it surprisingly remained completely unharmed.
As expected of the king of the gods’ weapon. Ning Shu marveled at its durability. Her fingers moved rapidly as she set up several yang gathering formations to collect the heat of the world.
The sun was currently high in the sky and it was incredibly hot. The sand on the beach was so scorching it could burn one’s feet.
With the formations in place, the heat rushed into the formations, igniting waves of fiery yang energy. She burned the thunderbolt, froze it, scalded it with hot water, and now she was roasting it over a fire before hammering it again. She refused to believe she couldn’t break it.
