Chapter 339: Not in Your League, Senior
The old man saw the scene before him and froze. He never would have thought that a young maiden could possess a medicinal powder that could neutralize the poison. The crowd in the pergola were stunned silly, and it took them a while to recover. Once they regained their senses, they started screaming in fear and fled in all directions.
The old man did not continue his killing spree, instead gazing dubiously in the direction which Ling Chuxi had escaped to, as if deep in thought. Abruptly, he lunged forward and gave chase. The young men who had carried the palanquin and the young maidens looked at each other in confusion, unable to understand what the old man was up to.
Ling Chuxi was running for her life. She had hinted to Ling Yichen before this that they would split up to escape, and was hoping that they could throw the old man off with their distance first. Ling Yichen knew and understood that they could not fight the old man. The old man would just kill off anyone he had a disagreement with, and innocent bystanders would not be spared either. One could not reason things out with people like this. You didn’t want to die? Then run.
After running for some time, Ling Chuxi’s forehead was covered in sweat. She figured she would be safe for now, so she stopped and looked back. To her shock, the old man was right behind her!!!
“You little brat, you ran away quite fast, didn’t you?” The old man was squinting slightly, after silently appearing behind Ling Chuxi.
“Ahh, that was nothing special.” Ling Chuxi smiled awkwardly, cursing inwardly. ‘You old pervert, why didn’t you chase someone else? Did I not look at the calendar when I left this morning? Such bad luck!”
“Little brat, you seem to have quite a good understanding of poison.” The old man smiled, but it was sinister and dangerous.
“Ahh, that was nothing extraordinary.” Ling Chuxi forced a smile and answered blankly.
“I see. Your potential is not bad. What do you think about becoming my disciple?” The old man said haughtily, looking at her as if he was offering her a big deal.
Ling Chuxi was horrified. ‘What kind of situation is this? Am I doomed to have an ill-fated relationship with the word ‘master’?’ Her journey of becoming a disciple, and taking in her own disciples – none of those experiences were normal. ‘To top it all off, this old fellow who wants me to be his disciple is a total pervert! How could I possibly become this pervert’s apprentice? There is just no way! What if he was in a bad mood one day, and decided to dig my brains out? Or what if I was eating and he got into a disagreement with others and just decided to splatter their brains everywhere? I would be traumatized while eating! I will definitely not be an apprentice to a person like this!’
“How could I possibly be in your league, senior?” The corners of Ling Chuxi’s lips twitched, and she forced herself to smile more sincerely.
“If I say that you are at my league, then you are definitely at it. Come and be my disciple. Kowtow three times before me and you will officially be my disciple.” The old man stroked his beard while glaring at her and spoke to her in a ‘magnanimous’ tone.
‘A match, my arse! Also, you want me to kowtow to you?! Dream on!’ Ling Chuxi was cursing furiously in her heart. ‘What does this pervert even see in me? Was it because of the antidote that I sprinkled?’ Little did she know that apart from that, the old man was also interested in her looks. This pervert had a fetish for beautiful things and was obsessed with people or things with an attractive exterior. Just by seeing the four young men lifting the palanquin, it was clear he had a taste for exquisite things. After witnessing how quick-witted Ling Chuxi was earlier, and after studying her complexion in detail, the old man realized that she was indeed suited for his taste. That was the reason why he pursued her to be his disciple.
“Senior, this junior is surely not at your level as my aptitude is mediocre. The antidote was actually a gift from someone else. Really, I panicked just now, and that was why I scattered the powder,” Ling Chuxi explained sincerely.
