Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1797: Fangjin

Chapter 1797: Fangjin

So far, Mengyunjun has shown him no animosity besides the first clash. However, Wang Wei does not believe a single word out of this man’s mouth. As a person who cultivates Fate Dao, control and deception are fundamental to his nature. But, due to the significant difference in strength, Wang Wei remained calm, composed, and never gave the latter any reason to attack him.

"I know you don’t believe me, but it’s true," Mengyunjun sighed. "We also longed to know what the purpose of our existence is, but can the planning of Grand Dao Saint powerhouses be easily seen through?"

"Indeed," Wang Wei nodded, playing along. "As much as I think I’m intelligent, the difference between those people and us is too vast. My so-called theory might be nothing but nonsense."

In this world, everything has a limit, including strength and wisdom. Scheming against people of the same realm is fine, but when it comes to people with higher cultivation, the task becomes more impossible the higher the tier. The best way to explain it is to imagine a character from a novel scheming against a reader. The reader can know everything the book character has done, said, and will do, yet even knowing this, the book character still has to scheme against the reader.

Mengyunjun gave Wang Wei a knowing glance. Did this kid mean these words? Probably not. "What’s your second question?" Mengyunjun decided to change the topic.

"What are my powers as a Holy Son? What about responsibilities?"

"You can access all the knowledge and resources below the second step. Anything above that, you’ll need to request permission," the Fate Chaos Demon God explained. "As for duties? Nothing besides winning the final battle. However, I’d recommend being convinced of the five Holy Son Seeds; they were not happy some random person skipped them to receive the title."

"That’s a lot of power," Wang Wei uttered. At least, it sounds like it is. For a second as powerful as this one, the true core of power is the second-step or Tribunal Lord powerhouses. Regardless, Wang Wei could still benefit immensely from his status — given these people were telling the truth.

"What happens after I win the war?"

"That’s three questions," Mengyunjun smiled. Sadly, Wang Wei did not share his humor. The aftermath of this fight involved his safety, so he will not play with such a thing.

"You can leave after the fight," Mengyunjun explained.

"Even if I lose?"

"Yes."

"And you can guarantee that?"

"I can make a binding vow or sign a contract," Mengyunjun replied.

"That’s pointless — unless you can use the sect’s Luck as the guarantee. But would you dare?" As long as the Holy Land had access to a third-step power, no vows or binding contracts were useful.

"I wouldn’t," Mengyunjun acknowledged.

"Then, there is no need," Wang Wei calmly stated. He could not rely on these people, meaning he had to plan his escape route in case they turned on him. It might not be easy, but since these people have granted him access to countless pieces of knowledge and more than 5 yuan epoch of time, Wang Wei was somewhat confident.

"Anything else?"

"Not for now," Wang Wei replied. "I should have a personal residence, right? Can you take me there?"

"Of course." Mengyunjun snapped his fingers, and an elderly man dressed in a green robe appeared next to them. "This is Fangjin — he will be your attendant. Fengjin, get the new Holy Son acquainted with the sect."

"Yes, Supreme Elder."

Wang Wei stood, bowed to Mengyunjun, before following the elderly man to a mansion made on the shaft of the axe. According to this guide, he would be qualified to live on the knob only after becoming the Holy Lord. For now, he can only live in an area with less concentrated Essence Source.

The Holy Son’s housing was indeed luxurious. The white and golden colors spoke of quiet luxury and hidden nobility. What’s more, every single brick of this mansion was the highest level of Essence Source stone. Even a mortal living in this place can grow to a Tier 4 body refiner without cultivating. And the only reason they couldn’t reach higher levels was the inherent limitations of their bloodline and the laws of Heaven and Earth.

The place was already fully accommodated with countless servants, alchemists, array masters, and other people to serve him. Of course, Wang Wei would never trust these people. Sadly, he couldn’t even replace them if he wished. So, after checking around the place, he found a quiet place to think; he didn’t even do his best since he knew he couldn’t detect the hidden means of even a Primordial Saint — let alone higher ones. So, the only things he did were to reinforce the Heaven Deception Array in his Sea of Consciousness to ensure his thoughts were his. As of now, his mind was his best and only weapon in this dire situation.

"That Fate Chaos Demon God showed me no animosity and was even kind, but given I can’t detect the emotions of such a powerhouse, I can’t trust my initial analysis," Wang Wei thought. "However, my intuition tells me that I was the Fate Grand Dao Position Holder; he wouldn’t have been so kind."

The competition for the Dao is fierce. In the end, only 3800 people can enter the Grand Dao Saints’ realm. While this may sound like a lot, it’s terribly small given how many people are competing for these spots. Forget the sheer number of cultivators just in the primordial timeline, but even the ones scattered throughout the multiverse are also competitors. In such a situation, it’s normal for fathers and mothers to kill their child, for brothers to backstab each other, and even Daoist partners to betray each other — all for an opportunity at transcendence.

Wang Wei reviewed all the information he had gathered today, trying to understand his situation clearly. "The situation is not ideal, but it’s not the worst-case scenario. And I think I’ve figured out most of the crucial aspects, except for one thing: what is the purpose of this fight?"

If the existence of these Chaos Demon Gods is a scheme between Grand Dao and Pangu, what is the point of his fight with Lin Fan? On the surface, it’s to settle the grudge between Pangu and Hundunxi, which is the fundamental event that separated this world from the primordial timeline. But why did they need to settle their grudge? Was it some kind of obsession? Or, is there something more going on?

"I feel uneasy without figuring this out," Wang Wei thought. His battle could be the key to everything, or it could be irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Regardless of the truth, Wang Wei wanted to know as soon as possible; if his escape plan were to work, he needed as much as possible.

Wang Wei calmed his mind by exhaling deeply and closing his eyes for a few seconds. His focus shifted to the elderly man standing in front of him. "Your name is Fangjin, correct?"

"That’s right, Holy Son. If you need something, don’t hesitate to ask." Fengjin bowed to him, but it was obvious he was not used to this form of salute, so he appeared a bit awkward.

"He’s even learned my world’s culture to serve me better? This man is worth keeping around," Wang Wei thought, secretly praising this elderly man’s capabilities. "Wait, why did I suddenly trust someone out of nowhere?"

His expression remained the same, but he immediately activated his [Existence] observation. The scroll was empty, revealing absolutely nothing. Before, Wang Wei could see basic things while the higher secrets were hidden, but this Fangjin was a blank sheet of paper.

"Blank? Is this a technique, or because this man is a special lifeform?" Wang Wei contemplated. Sadly, the truth is impossible to discern. So, Wang Wei focused on gathering additional data about this strange servant.

"The more I look at this man, the more reassured I feel with him," Wang Wei pondered. "This must be a special technique or a unique physique." This was not a good thing. This ability should technically no longer have any effect after Wang Wei detected it, but that’s not what happened. As long as Fangjin was in his presence, Wang Wei’s desire to trust him did not abate in the slightest.

"I must keep in mind at all times," Wang Wei thought, before assigning a third of his spirit particles to keep watch of his actions and favorability toward Fangjin.

"Fangjin, I need you to do something for me."

"Anything, lord."

"Change the color of your robe."

"...Excuse me?"

"Where I’m from, the color green is a sign of misfortune. So, I need you to change into something else."

"I-I see. And what color would the Holy Son like that I wear?"

"Hmm, I don’t like my servants to be too conspicuous, so choose black."

"As you wish."

Wang Wei calmly watched Fangjin’s robe turning black. "Interesting," he thought. "A peak 5-star Ancestor Fiendgod showed no pride to serve as a servant?"
