Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1798: Irresistible Bait

Chapter 1798: Irresistible Bait

Primordial Chaos Holy Land, a gathering of disciples:

"He did it? After so many years, someone finally passed the 39th level of Overlord Trial," a disciple commented as he watched Lin Fan kill his opponent.

"The last person who did this was Holy Son Ye Dingfei more than 68 million Yuan Epoch ago. Could be on par with such a genius?"

"Ye Dingfei? I think he’s another Chu Dongchen."

"You really think he can pass all fifty levels?" a female disciple with an innocent appearance asked her. The Overlord Trial was only for Ancestral Powerhouses; it contained 59 floors, with every ten floors corresponding to a 1-star. The trial contains the most powerful individuals who have ever existed in the Ancestral Fiendgod Realm, which means it’s almost impossible for disciples to defeat the people on the 19th, 29th, 39th, and so on floors.

Throughout the Primordial Chaos Holy Lands, few people have ever defeated the last floor in each level, and only one person has ever defeated the 59th floor: Chu Dongchen.

"You guys are getting ahead of yourself," another male disciple sneered. "Although this Lin Fan has proven himself worthy of the Holy Son title, don’t compare him with legendary heroes such as Lord Chu."

The debate about Lin Fan’s talent and future continued for a while, but as for the person involved, he did not care too much. After defeating his opponent, Lin Fan exited the trial, where five other people were waiting for him. Their expressions were different, but the sense of loss and defeat was present — even if a few hid it well.

"Congratulations, Holy Son, on your grand victory," all five of the Holy Son Seeds saluted.

Lin Fan — who looked dashing and heroic in his disheveled and bloody state — smiled and replied, "Thank you. In honor of this celebration, how about you visit my humble abode?"

The five of them glanced at each other. Two of them — a man and a woman — used an excuse to refuse the invitation. It seems these people haven’t given up on fighting for the Holy Son position yet. Meanwhile, the rest — one woman and two men — agreed.

Lin Fan did not force it and brought the people who agreed to his abode. Ever since his arrival in this place, he lived in a blue and red, immortal-esque mansion floating atop a purple lake bigger than an entire galaxy. The lake was not water, but the purest of primordial chaos energy, condensed to the point of liquidation. Furthermore, the primordial chaos energy is perfectly fused with the highest level of Essence Source.

After returning home, Lin Fan changed his clothes, healed, bathed, and held a dinner for the three Holy Son Seeds. By the end of this banquet, the guests left with satisfaction,n and Lin Fan was content since he now had three more powerful supporters, which should make his life easier during his time in the secret realm.

"That Saintess has been hinting that she wants a marriage alliance. Why are you pretending to be stupid?" Hundunxi asked.

"No need."

"Her clan is one of the most powerful Primordial Saint families in the holy land; there are even rumors that one of her ancestors is about to reach the second step. You’re telling me you’re not interested?" Hundunxi continued. He had seen this man’s memory and even his life, so how could he not know what kind of person Lin Fan was?

"I’m a changed man. Why ruin my relationship with Shi’er for anyone else?"

"I don’t believe you."

Lin Fan did not explain. At this stage of his cultivation journey, his desire for women has drastically decreased. After experiencing so much, he understands that a Daoist Partner is someone who can not only accompany him far along his journey, but also someone he can trust his back with. Fairy Shi might bring him much benefit, given her family, but he could never trust her.

As much as her clan is a great boost, they are also her biggest hindrance. Lin Fan knew that becoming a son-in-law with such a clan would require him to play political games with them constantly. If he were not careful, these people would use him as a jumping point to either invade or spread their tentacles into the Primordial Timeline.

"You humans are too emotional as a species. And your love affairs are simply too absurd. Instead of thinking about all this nonsense, why not focus on the pursuit of the Dao?" Hundunxi scoffed.

"Don’t try to play high and mighty with me," Lin Fan sneered. "In All Heaven and Myriad Race, no sentient race — no matter how strong, weak, or noble — can escape the Six emotions and Seven desires. The Chaos Demon God race doesn’t care about love because you don’t reproduce at all, but you’re still greedy, arrogant, and power hungry."

"That’s fair," Hundunxi admitted. Even people who practice Supreme Indifference only do so because it’s a great way to enlightenment, meaning they also have the desire to pursue the Dao. Hundunxi was about to say something when he sensed something: "Someone is coming."

Lin Fan — who had been in a relaxed state — entered the highest alert level. His exterior appearance did not change, but his mind was peaceful and alert. His servant entered the room, bowed, and handed him a scroll. Lin Fan motioned for the latter to leave after taking it.

"What is it?"

"The Heaven-Splitting Holy Land took Wang Wei back," Lin Fan explained.

"Is that so? In that case, you need to accelerate things."

"Indeed." Lin Fan’s talent for body refining had reached the pinnacle; adding his affinity with primordial chaos and a Grand Dao Saint as his teacher, the path of Ancestral Fiendgod was a piece of cake for him. The only thing stopping his ascension to 5-star was the need to create his own Saint Foundation Method.

As such, he was confident about this battle. If it were before, with Wang Wei’s overwhelming advantage in the Qi Refining Path, Lin Fan wouldn’t dare utter such words, but now, in a competition of pure body refining in which they have the same cultivation level, he had the will to fight and the ambition to win. He never had a chance to fight Wang Wei in the Heaven Will Battle, and this fight will remedy that.

"What about you? Have you decided what to do?"

Hundunxi did not answer.

"You’re not really thinking of taking this bait, right?" Lin Fan asked. This trap was too obvious as long as you have the slightest of information.

The Primordial Chaos Demon God sighed deeply, "Boy, you don’t understand."

"Then, explain it to me." Lin Fan knew this man was not stupid. Someone capable of scheming against Grand Dao for so long should have a modicum of intelligence and wisdom. So, why was he willing to fall for such an obvious plot?

"Do you have any idea how difficult it is to heal injuries at the Saint level — let alone mine?" Hundunxi sighed. "Especially in this barren era with limited resources, which are controlled by a few individuals. On top of that, I must hide from Grand Dao and have to rely on you to do everything. At this rate, when do you think I will ever return to my peak?"

Lin Fan was momentarily speechless. He could understand where the latter was coming from. A new era is coming, and with it comes great danger and opportunity. If Hundunxi doesn’t seize his chance, he not only will not benefit from the upcoming Transcendent Era, but he also risks being killed permanently.

"There has got to be a better way, right?" Lin Fan asked.

"If there is, I haven’t found it."

"Can you even guarantee you will be the final winner?" The last thing he would want was for this timeline’s version of Hundunxi to become the primary personality. No matter how despicable and terrible a person Hundunxi was, Lin Fan was used to his presence.

"You don’t have to worry about that," Hundunxi sneered. "As the original entity, I have ways to ensure I can control him. The only issue is Grand Dao’s scheme."

Lin Fan groaned softly. He felt relieved after hearing; now, one of his worries has been solved, but that’s only one out of many. "Tell me what the worst outcome is? Will Grand Dao enslave you? Maybe kill you?"

"Enslave? No one can enslave a Grand Dao Saint — not even Grand Dao herself," Hundunxi sneered.

"So, she wants to annihilate you? But that doesn’t make sense. In prison, all of you were as weak as a chicken. Wouldn’t it have been better to have done it during that time? Unless —"

"She wants us to be her pawn," Hundunxi nodded. "Anyone who uses her means to revive will have no choice but to play by her rules, and when the time is needed, they must pay the karma they owe."

"...Can’t you just reject her? After all, you’re on the same level."

"But she has the authority to block the transcendent path of all sentient beings," Hundunxi sighed. After seeing Pangu’s strength, his only obsession is to transcend everything. So, whether he wants it or not, once he takes this irresistible bait, his fate is locked.
