i) Versatile Vessel: Your soul and body are perfect vessels to conjure your past selves at the cost of your life.

> True Relic ’Void Silk’ detected. Permission to equip it in the second origin card slot? <Yes/No>]

’Hell no, hell no, and hell no!’ Corey mentally declined her grimoire’s permissions to inherit the soul traits ’Cursed Savant’ and ’Versatile Vessel,’ and equip true relic Void Silk as her second origin card instead. The reason was obvious, neither trait felt like a blessing to her. If anything, they felt more like curses.

Also, she was certain that if she gave the true relic ’Void Silk’ to her friend, he could help her use it to create an even greater origin card later. She was in no hurry to turn it into her second origin card as she could use it as a true relic just as fine as had it been her second origin card.

"That dumb bitch!"

She would have loved to dwell on the fact that the two traits she inherited were both alluring and destructive at the same time. But she was far too angry about what Concubine Corey had done to the conjoined twins, Coryn and Reven. The thought of it burned in her chest until she finally blurted out loud in the card lab, startling everyone working nearby.

From the memories of her fifth and sixth reincarnations, Corey Bright pieced together that Concubine Corey, driven by a stubborn and unhealthy obsession with defeating death, had killed herself four times. Twice as herself, and once each while living as Coryn and Reven.

The realization left Corey dumbfounded. Somehow, her supposedly smartest reincarnation so far had also been the idiotic one. In her mind, most of the blame fell on the trait ’Cursed Savant.’ Remembering that, Corey firmly reminded herself that no matter how powerful or tempting that trait seemed, she must never inherit it. Otherwise, she might end up meeting the same tragic fate as Concubine Corey.

Corey’s rage toward Concubine Corey suddenly cooled when an eerie voice echoed in her mind, ’Justice may be delayed, but it will always be upheld. No matter who you are, where you stand, or what you possess. An eye for an eye. A life for a life.’

Hearing that eerie reminder in her mind, a chill ran through Corey’s entire body. She was spooked. How could the False Witness ability of the Deceitful Devil Peyote Pals still be active? She couldn’t understand why she was hearing it now. Especially when her seventh and eighth incarnations had never heard it. Not to mention, Corey Park had spent nearly a century in the Dark Realm without hearing it even once.

Corey could think of only two possible reasons for this. The first was that the Deceitful Devil had only just resurrected in the Dark Realm after being killed by Concubine Corey. The second was that she had inherited the legacy of her fifth reincarnation. In a sense, that made her Concubine Corey, fulfilling the conditions of the False Witness ability and triggering it now.

Regardless of the reason, one thing was certain. She was now marked by the commandment of False Witness, Deceitful Devil, Peyote Pals. From what she had seen in her 6th reincarnation’s memories, his attacks had been able to trace Concubine Corey even into the void. That alone was enough to unsettle her. If he was still alive and attacked from the Dark Realm, those attacks might eventually trace their way to her.

She had no idea if such a thing was truly possible, but if it was, then she wouldn’t be able to live in peace until she hunted down the Deceitful Devil, Peyote Pals, in the Dark Realm.

However, that was far easier said than done. The Dark Realm was his home field. Even Concubine Corey had struggled to kill him, and that was with the world’s will suppressing him.

Overall, what should have been a joyous occasion turned into a rather depressing one. What Corey didn’t realize, however, was that by gaining the memories of her sixth incarnation, she had also inherited much of Concubine Corey’s sharp mind, combat experience, and knowledge of witchcraft, all without needing to inherit the soul trait Cursed Savant.

The same was true for her fifth incarnation. Through those memories, she gained Reven’s endless thirst for knowledge and near-limitless patience, along with Coryn’s bravery and fearless nature.

Because of these traits that came with their memories, Corey was able to calmly assess the threat of the Deceitful Devil on her own, without relying on outside help from Park or her boss.

Corey didn’t realize these changes in herself because, truth be told, nobody ever does. People like to believe the best about themselves, even when they know they’re imperfect and full of flaws. Corey was no different.

Besides, her attention was fixed elsewhere. Instead of noticing the strengths she had gained, she was busy searching for any negative personality traits she might have inherited along with those memories. Given her past experiences with inheriting the memories of her previous lives, that caution was hardly surprising.

However, having become one with the darkness within her titled demon, and with the protection of her origin card, Corey could be assured that the changes brought by those memories were mostly positive.
