Chapter 2591: Chapter 2591: Detected Something Unusual
While Yu Qi and Long Hui handled the grilling, the contracted beasts busied themselves happily devouring the finished portions.
"How does it taste?" Yu Qi asked with a warm smile.
"It’s absolutely delicious, Master!" Aoi replied enthusiastically.
"Master’s cooking is always the very best," Shino added with a cheerful chirp.
"It is very good," Xiaoliu replied in a characteristically shy tone.
"It is quite good, but I personally prefer it fresh..." Xiaohua started to say, but she was quickly cut off by Aoi and Shino before she could finish her thought.
"That’s enough. Just focus on eating your meal," Aoi interrupted firmly.
"That’s right. You don’t need to say anything else." Shino added with a stern nod.
Yu Qi and Long Hui shared a knowing look. They could easily guess the words Xiaohua had intended to finish with: ’Fresh meat, probably human meat.’
Bo Ya finished his portion of meat before moving straight to the desserts. Yu Qi noticed some pineapple buns she had bought earlier and offered them to him, much to his delight. As for Rukh, even though he remained relatively quiet, Yu Qi could tell he was enjoying the meal based on the rapidly growing pile of clean bones on his plate.
Yu Qi and Long Hui decided to spend the remainder of the night inside the Sere. After the cleanup was finished, Yu Qi went to take a refreshing shower. When she stepped out, she found that Long Hui was already waiting for her on the bed.
"What are you doing here?" Yu Qi asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Of course, I am planning to sleep here with you." Long Hui said naturally.
"Fine. But just sleep. Nothing else." Yu Qi stated firmly, setting a clear boundary.
"Okay... Okay..." Long Hui did not complain, accepting her terms with a smile. "What are your plans for tomorrow?"
"I have a meeting scheduled with my teammates to discuss the next village we are going to visit." Yu Qi explained.
....
During the meeting, Doctor Duan Jiang informed everyone that the person in charge had sent investigators to the next village in secret. The organisers did not want a repeat of the previous dangerous incident. This extra precaution was taken after Tang Private Hospital’s upper management pressured them to thoroughly vet every single village listed in the program.
How did Tang Private Hospital learn about the incident? Naturally, Yu Qi was the one who had informed Grandpa Tang. She had texted him the details, and Grandpa Tang immediately passed the information along to Tang Jung Wen and Tang Jang Qin.
As a result of this investigation, it was discovered that two of the villages originally scheduled for visits were actually criminal dens. One was a human trafficking hub, while the other was involved in drug trafficking. Consequently, the visits to those two locations were immediately cancelled. Fortunately, those specific villages were not on Yu Qi’s team’s itinerary, so they had not been in direct danger.
Finally, the day to visit the next village arrived. A bus came to pick them up, stopping first at a nearby hospital to load up on necessary medical supplies. Yu Qi noticed Long Hui following closely behind the bus in his own vehicle. When they finally arrived at the village, the rest of the team was surprised to see him there as well.
"Doctor Yu Qi, why is he following us?" Doctor Fang Maomao asked curiously.
"Well, he is acting as the bodyguard," Yu Qi stated.
"Oh... I understand now," Doctor Fang Maomao said, nodding her head.
Yu Qi also explained to the others that Long Hui would be staying with them for the duration of the program, and to her relief, no one seemed to mind.
The villagers welcomed the medical team with bright smiles. While the team smiled back, they did not dare trust the locals 100%. They remained wary, afraid they might be betrayed just as they had been in the previous village.
The village leader informed them that three houses had been allocated for their use, one for the women, one for the men, and another dedicated to cooking.
Yu Qi had already hired a professional catering company to handle their meals. The person in charge had provided several quotations, and since Yu Qi lacked experience in that area, she had asked Lei Yingtai to handle the comparison. After Lei Yingtai selected the best option, Yu Qi trusted her judgment and had her finalise the contract.
When the catering team arrived, their leader clarified the schedule with Yu Qi. Once the details were settled, the leader assured her that food would no longer be a concern.
As the medical check-up sessions began, the villagers seemed genuinely happy to receive free healthcare. Long Hui, however, did not stay idle. He scouted the perimeter of the village until his senses detected something unusual. He stared deep into the woods, certain someone was hiding there.
Because of his cultivation power, he knew that whoever was in the woods were fellow cultivator. He sensed that they were not evil practitioners, as the energy he felt lacked any underlying malice.
He did not enter the woods immediately. Instead, he sought out the village leader. The leader was visibly taken aback by Long Hui’s questions.
"How do you know about them?" The village leader asked, surprised.
"I sensed someone in the woods, and I also spotted a structure that looked like a house." Long Hui replied.
