Chapter 2592 - 2593: Weirdos

Chapter 2592: Chapter 2593: Weirdos

"Well, actually, there is a family living deep within those woods. We don’t bother them, and they generally keep to themselves as well." The village leader explained.

"Why is that?" Long Hui asked, his curiosity piqued.

"Because they are weirdos." The leader said bluntly. "It is as if they are still living in the distant past. One time, when a villager wandered too close, they nearly killed him. Since then, we have forbidden anyone from going near their territory."

"How long have they been there?" Long Hui pressed.

"I don’t know exactly, but they were already living there when my grandfather was still alive." The leader replied.

"So you’ve made no attempt to communicate with them at all?" Long Hui asked again.

"No... who would want to talk to people who try to kill you at first sight?" The leader shook his head emphatically at the very thought.

Long Hui remained silent, deep in thought. He decided he needed to discuss this with Yu Qi first and hear her opinion on the matter. That evening, after a meal prepared by the caterers, the team relaxed and chatted about their day. Long Hui caught Yu Qi’s attention and signalled that they needed to talk privately. She followed him to a quiet spot and sat down.

"What is it?" Yu Qi asked.

"I believe a family of cultivators is living in the woods directly behind this village." Long Hui stated gravely.

"What?" Yu Qi whispered, her eyes widening with surprise. "Oh... Really?"

"Yeah, I think so. It seems they dislike being disturbed by the villagers. One of the locals approached them before and was almost killed for it." Long Hui said.

"Do we need to go and meet them? They have not been disturbing the villagers, though." Yu Qi noted.

"Indeed, but it is dangerous for the villagers to leave them be. What if someone accidentally enters their area and is killed because of it?" Long Hui argued.

"You are right. We truly do need to go and see them. After all, they are our kind." Yu Qi nodded in agreement.

"Hmm... I will try to go and see them tomorrow." Long Hui suggested.

"Why wait for tomorrow? We can go right now." Yu Qi said with a grin.

"Are you sure?" Long Hui asked.

"Yes." Yu Qi nodded firmly.

"Well, alright then. Let’s go tonight." Long Hui stated.

Yu Qi went over to the girls and told them that she had something to do with Long Hui and that they should go to sleep without her. Since she had one of the spare keys, there was no need for them to stay awake.

Nurse Shin Teng grinned knowingly as she looked at Yu Qi. "Yes... Doctor Yu Qi, we understand."

"Hey, we are not doing what you think we’re doing." Yu Qi protested.

Nurse Shin Teng’s grin only widened. Yu Qi rolled her eyes and left to meet Long Hui, who was already waiting for her. Just as they were about to enter the forest, they heard a voice nearby.

Not wanting others to know their destination, Yu Qi pulled Long Hui into the shadows to hide. Immediately after, she activated her invisibility mode.

"Old Jiang, who are you calling?" Someone asked.

The village leader thought he had spotted a few figures in the gloom, but after checking again, there was no one there. Believing his eyes had played tricks on him, he turned and left the area.

Once the coast was clear, Yu Qi and Long Hui entered the woods. Yu Qi used her specialised vision to see through the darkness. Indeed, she spotted a clearing ahead. Wait a minute... There was not just one house. There were four houses clustered together.

As they approached the dwellings, it became clear that the people inside possessed incredible hearing. They instantly picked up the sound of Yu Qi and Long Hui’s footsteps.

Several men emerged from the houses, scanning the surroundings with sharp eyes. They saw nothing, but this only made them more alert. They could hear footsteps, yet no one was visible. They initially suspected wild animals, but when the sounds didn’t match, they suspected something far more calculated.

"Leave this area! I don’t care who you are!" One of the men shouted into the trees.

Long Hui and Yu Qi exchanged a look. Long Hui nodded, understanding Yu Qi’s silent intent. They needed to reveal themselves to open a dialogue.

Yu Qi deactivated the invisibility mode, and they materialised just a short distance from the group. The men reacted immediately.

"Who are you?" One of them shouted, dropping into a combat-ready stance.

"Please, hold on. We do not wish to cause you any harm." Yu Qi said calmly.

"Leave now! You are not supposed to be here. Stay here any longer, and you will regret it!" The man shouted again.

They did not understand what kind of trick Yu Qi and Long Hui had used to appear out of thin air, but they were certain these intruders were not like them. They had no desire to speak further.

Yu Qi and Long Hui observed them closely, noting their attire. They were dressed in the ancient style of the cultivation world.

"You are the ones who are not supposed to be here." Yu Qi stated firmly.

"This is the outside world. It is not your place." Long Hui added.

Upon hearing the phrase ’outside world,’ the men froze and stared back at them. Normal human beings were not supposed to know that terminology.

"Who... who are you?" One of them asked, his voice now tinged with suspicion and wonder.
