Chapter 2648: Chapter 2648: Order The Creature To Attack Yu Qi
"What exactly did you call?" Yu Qi asked quietly, her tone calm yet edged with a sharp, probing curiosity.
"Why don’t you see for yourself?" Master Chunwei replied, his smile widening into an unnaturally stretched grin. He turned toward the door and spoke in a low, commanding voice, "You can come out now."
The pounding suddenly stopped. An eerie silence followed, thick, suffocating, and heavy with dread. Then, a slow, deliberate creak echoed throughout the house as the ritual room door began to open from the inside. It moved inch by inch, as though whatever waited on the other side was savouring the moment, deliberately taking its time to step into the light.
A thin line of darkness stretched across the floor, spilling out of the ritual room like spilt ink. The air that drifted from the gap was frigid and carried a faint metallic scent, the unmistakable smell of old blood that made Sang Yuling’s stomach churn violently. Instinctively, she took another step back, her heart hammering erratically against her ribs.
"Master Chunwei... What is that?" Sang Yuling whispered, her voice trembling as she gestured toward the growing shadow.
Master Chunwei did not respond. His eyes were fixed intently on the opening door. His expression was no longer merely amused. He was intensely focused, almost reverent, as if he were witnessing something sacred, something miraculous.
Yu Qi also watched the threshold in silence. She narrowed her eyes slightly as the dark red aura around her fingers grew brighter, pulsing faintly as if reacting to the malevolent presence looming beyond the door.
Then, a long, pale hand emerged from the darkness. Its fingers were unnaturally thin, bent at strange, skeletal angles. It pressed slowly against the edge of the door, gripping the wood as though testing the boundary between two worlds, as though confirming its right to cross over.
Sang Yuling let out a strangled gasp, clapping a trembling hand over her mouth to stifle a scream before it could escape.
The hand twitched. Another hand appeared. Then, the entity stepped out.
Its figure was tall and gaunt, its limbs slightly too long for its frame, giving it an unnatural, disproportionate silhouette. Its movements were slow and deliberate, as if it were a puppet still adjusting to the unfamiliar constraints of the physical world. Though its face remained obscured behind a shifting veil of shadow, its mere presence was enough to make the air feel heavy, distorted, and suffocating.
"I see. You did not just borrow power." Yu Qi said, her eyes narrowing further. "You made a contract."
Master Chunwei chuckled lowly, a hint of dark pride bleeding into his voice.
"Oh... You seem to know about such things. No wonder you managed to find this place. I bet you can even see that dark red aura on your fingers." Master Chunwei said before breaking into a raspy, unhinged laugh. "Do you know how many years it took me just to reach this level? And yet, thanks to your energy, I finally managed to call it out."
The creature tilted its head with a sickening crack. Though it possessed no visible eyes, it turned slowly and precisely toward Yu Qi. It had noticed her. The temperature in the room dropped even further, and a faint crackling sound filled the air like something invisible tearing at the very fabric of reality itself.
Sang Yuling had already collapsed into the corner, her legs completely giving out beneath her. Even though every instinct screamed at her to run, to escape as far as possible, she found herself paralysed, unable to move even a single muscle.
"Master Chunwei, t-this was not what you said! You said it was just to ensure my daughter’s future...!" Sang Yuling cried out, her voice cracking with raw terror.
"Just be quiet. Otherwise, I will ask it to eat you first." Master Chunwei said flatly, not even deigning to spare her a glance.
At his words, Sang Yuling went rigid. She did not dare to make another sound, watching the scene unfold in horrified, petrified silence.
The creature let its long tongue slip out of its mouth, the muscle lingering and tasting the air in Yu Qi’s direction.
Master Chunwei let out another laugh. "My dear, you must be hungry, right?"
The creature stepped forward.
The dark red aura around Yu Qi’s fingers flared violently. This time, it did not remain a soft glow. It expanded outward, forming delicate, thread-like strands that floated around her like fine, blood-soaked silk. The strands shimmered faintly before suddenly lashing out, attempting to bind Yu Qi where she stood.
"That must be its power. It probably likes to tie up its prey before eating." Master Chunwei stated casually.
Master Chunwei looked at the creature with disturbingly loving eyes, as though admiring something precious and beautiful.
"My dear, you can go and eat her. Only then will you be full. And if you are still hungry, we have another one waiting right there." Master Chunwei added with chilling indifference.
Hearing his callous words, Sang Yuling trembled even more violently. A wave of bitter regret washed over her. She had been a complete fool to come to Master Chunwei for help. She had not realised that he had already gone completely mad, summoning a twisted creature that hungered for human flesh.
"You are going to lose control." Yu Qi reminded him, her voice steady despite the threads surrounding her. "You cannot hold something like this for long. You do not have the strength to command such a creature. In the end, you will be the one eaten by it."
Master Chunwei’s expression darkened instantly.
"Do not presume to lecture me! I know exactly what I am doing." Master Chunwei snapped sharply.
