Chapter 2708: Contact The Police Officer
The dark and malevolent energy surrounding the entire property had become even denser and heavier than before, most likely because night had finally arrived to claim the countryside. After all, such negative spiritual entities and restless shadows naturally preferred the absolute cover of darkness to thrive.
The three of them then headed back toward the car and drove directly toward the Saisei Ryokan Hotel. Lou Weizhe first dropped Yu Qi and Long Hui off at the hotel entrance before turning the rental car around and driving alone toward the local police station to fulfil his part of the plan.
The moment Lou Weizhe arrived and stepped through the heavy glass doors of the police station, he was immediately spotted by Officer Huang Ning, who happened to be walking out of the building at that exact moment while carrying a heavy stack of unresolved case files.
Officer Huang Ning still remembered Lou Weizhe quite clearly because of his strikingly handsome appearance and the highly unusual fact that he was a prominent, high-ranking disciple from the prestigious Heavenly Crane Pavilion.
"Mr Lou?" Officer Huang Ning called out in surprise, stopping dead in her tracks on the steps.
"You are Officer Huang Ning, the officer who handled my sister’s kidnapping case before, right?" Lou Weizhe recalled, pausing briefly as he studied her face under the fluorescent lights.
"Yes, that’s me. We are actually still actively investigating your sister’s case and looking deeper into her kidnapper’s background." Officer Huang Ning immediately replied.
At first, she naturally assumed that Lou Weizhe had travelled all the way back to the station because he wanted an update on that ongoing investigation.
"It’s fine. I actually came here tonight because I want to report something entirely different." Lou Weizhe stated seriously, his tone noticeably lowering to a hushed whisper.
The moment Officer Huang Ning heard the deep seriousness in his voice, her professional expression immediately became solemn, sharp, and alert as well. Without wasting any more time on unnecessary small talk, Officer Huang Ning quickly invited Lou Weizhe further into the police station. She exchanged several brief words with another nearby police officer on duty before both of them nodded grimly and escorted Lou Weizhe into a quiet, private interrogation room for formal questioning.
After everyone sat down properly around the cold metal table, Lou Weizhe decided not to beat around the bush and immediately brought up the shocking matter directly.
"I found a corpse." Lou Weizhe stated bluntly while looking straight into Officer Huang Ning’s eyes.
"A corpse?!" Both police officers exclaimed simultaneously, nearly slamming their pens down onto the table in sheer shock.
Officer Huang Ning quickly took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm her racing heart while her mind rapidly processed the massive legal implications of his statement.
"Where exactly did you find it?" Officer Huang Ning immediately asked in a serious, commanding tone, leaning over the table.
"At the dilapidated rural house where my sister was previously held captive by Ma Chunwei." Lou Weizhe answered honestly, sticking perfectly to the cover story Yu Qi had crafted.
"What? A fresh murder happened there after we already processed and cleared the crime scene?" Officer Huang Ning frowned deeply, her brows furrowing heavily from the sudden surge of professional stress.
"No. I don’t think it is a recent murder at all." Lou Weizhe calmly shook his head while recalling the stomach-turning condition of the decaying corpse.
"Mr Lou, what exactly do you mean by that?" The other police officer finally chimed in, his face filled with utter confusion.
"I found the corpse inside a hidden basement chamber located directly within that dilapidated house." Lou Weizhe stated seriously.
"Impossible! Our team already investigated that house thoroughly from top to bottom and found no evidence of a basement whatsoever." The police officer immediately refuted in stubborn disbelief.
"That is because it was a secret room designed to hide taboos. The entrance had been concealed very carefully beneath the floorboards." Lou Weizhe explained calmly, his composure unshakeable.
"Where exactly is this entrance located?" Officer Huang Ning immediately pressed.
"It is inside that empty ritual room with the strange inscriptions drawn all over the floor." Lou Weizhe answered.
"In that room?" Officer Huang Ning frowned even more deeply, her scepticism growing. "We even brought trained police dogs there during our initial search, but none of them managed to pick up any strange smells or anomalies."
Lou Weizhe smiled mysteriously, a faint glint in his eyes. "Officer, there are simply some things in this world that ordinary people cannot see, but due to my special circumstances, I can."
Officer Huang Ning and the other police officer immediately became highly sceptical after hearing those cryptic words, exchanging an uneasy look.
"Not to mention, that underground room seems to have exceptionally good airtight insulation. That is probably the physical reason why your police dogs failed to detect any rotting smell coming from below." Lou Weizhe continued explaining, grounding his words in logic.
Officer Huang Ning lowered her head, thinking carefully over the details for several tense seconds before finally nodding her head.
"We will go there right now and investigate the matter ourselves to verify your story. Please guide us back to the location." Officer Huang Ning requested seriously.
"I understand." Lou Weizhe nodded immediately.
In the end, only Officer Huang Ning and the other police officer who had been inside the interrogation room with them decided to go. They wanted to personally verify the bizarre situation first before causing a panic. If Lou Weizhe’s report turned out to be completely true, they would immediately call the full forensic investigation team over to officially process the scene.
Soon afterwards, the three of them returned to the dilapidated rural house together under the cover of night.
