Chapter 2709: Lead The Police To Ma Chunwei’s Secret Room

Chapter 2709: Lead The Police To Ma Chunwei’s Secret Room

The abandoned property had become even more unsettling and eerie after nightfall arrived, while the biting cold wind howled relentlessly through the broken windows and damaged walls of the old house, sounding like distant screams.

Lou Weizhe narrowed his eyes slightly while observing the thick, dark energy swirling heavily around the surroundings like a living mist. While the two officers were occupied with adjusting their heavy coats against the freezing night air, he quietly slipped a yellow Taoist talisman from his long sleeve and pasted it discreetly beside the main entrance door frame.

Almost instantly, a faint spiritual ripple, invisible to the mortal eye, spread outward from the talisman. The restless, invisible entities lurking nearby suddenly shrieked silently and scattered, no longer daring to approach the group recklessly.

"Can you show us the room now?" Officer Huang Ning asked, shivering slightly as an abrupt, unnatural drop in temperature washed over them.

"Before we go inside, do either of you happen to have a truly powerful flashlight? It would help us greatly once we descend into the underground chamber." Lou Weizhe said seriously, peering into the shadows.

"We only have this standard-issue tactical one. Is it really not enough?" Officer Huang Ning asked, raising the heavy flashlight in her hand to demonstrate its beam.

"Well... I honestly don’t think it will be strong enough to cut through the oppressive darkness down there." Lou Weizhe admitted truthfully, recalling the pitch-black underground void.

"Let’s confirm the physical existence of the secret room first. Once we verify everything with our own eyes, we can request stronger lighting and backup equipment from the precinct afterwards." Officer Huang Ning decided firmly, her professional instincts taking over.

"Okay. Then let’s go in." Lou Weizhe nodded before turning around and leading the way into the gloom.

Lou Weizhe immediately guided the two cautious police officers through the rotting hallways toward the hidden room located deeper inside the dilapidated house. Both officers were visibly shocked the moment they stepped into the ritual space and saw the exposed entrance hidden beneath the shattered floorboards.

"The entrance was really hidden underneath the floor this entire time?" Officer Huang Ning exclaimed in genuine surprise, shining her flashlight onto the jagged, broken wooden boards.

"Yes. It was completely concealed beneath the heavy wooden flooring before we uncovered it." Lou Weizhe explained calmly, keeping Yu Qi’s involvement entirely out of his explanation.

Lou Weizhe then carefully pulled open the hidden, heavy steel door once more, revealing the steep and dark staircase descending directly into the underground abyss below.

"Let’s go down carefully. Watch your steps while descending since the concrete stairs are rather steep and slick." Lou Weizhe reminded them seriously, his voice echoing faintly in the subterranean silence.

"It is so incredibly dark down there." The other police officer muttered uneasily, his hand instinctively reaching toward his holster as an unnatural, bone-chilling cold washed over him.

"Yeah..." Officer Huang Ning quietly agreed while gripping her flashlight even tighter, her breath visibly turning into white plumes in the freezing underground air.

"There is a modified coffin further ahead in the centre of the room. The corpse is located inside that coffin." Lou Weizhe informed them beforehand so they could mentally prepare themselves for the grim sight.

Officer Huang Ning immediately stepped onto the lower underground platform and pointed her flashlight deeper into the hidden chamber. Unfortunately, the weak beam from her standard flashlight was far too feeble to properly illuminate the deep, shadowy corners of the massive underground room. The absolute darkness seemed to swallow the light completely.

She still could not see the coffin clearly through the gloom. However, the closer they walked toward the centre of the room, the stronger, sharper, and more unbearable the stench became. Eventually, the weak beam of light caught the dark, polished wood of the coffin.

Lou Weizhe immediately stepped forward, reached out, and opened the heavy coffin lid before quickly turning his head and pinching his nose tightly. The horrifying, rancid stench of decay instantly assaulted both police officers the moment the coffin lid swung wide. Both of them immediately began to cough violently, their eyes watering as they hurriedly pinched their noses in a desperate attempt to block out the nauseating smell.

"That is horrible..." Officer Huang Ning muttered through clenched teeth, fiercely suppressing the violent urge to vomit.

Forcing herself to perform her duty, she quickly pointed her flashlight directly into the open coffin.

There was indeed a corpse lying inside.

Officer Huang Ning carefully examined the body from a slight distance and immediately noticed the hundreds of writhing maggots crawling across the badly decomposing flesh. The moment she witnessed the corpse’s horrifying condition, she instantly understood the gravity of the situation and knew she needed to initiate standard homicide protocols.

"Let’s go outside first. I need to call the forensics team over here immediately." Officer Huang Ning stated decisively, her face pale.

After that, the three of them quickly exited the oppressive underground chamber and returned to the fresh air outside the house.

Officer Huang Ning immediately contacted her superior to report the grim discovery. She urgently requested additional backup along with the full forensic investigation team, emphasising the need for them to arrive at the rural location as quickly as possible.

Approximately one hour later, the quiet countryside was pierced by flashing red and blue lights as the investigation team finally arrived together with their specialised equipment.

Officer Huang Ning personally led the entire team of forensic experts into the hidden underground chamber. The arriving officers were completely shocked after learning that a secret room had existed beneath the property all along, especially since their own department had already investigated the place thoroughly just weeks prior. At that time, they had not discovered anything unusual at all.
