Chapter 2739: Chapter 2739: You Came Here Because Of Him
The middle-aged man’s expression instantly shattered into panic. Cold sweat erupted rapidly across his forehead, and his heart began pounding like a sledgehammer inside his chest. He stared at Long Hui as if he were looking at a literal monster.
Long Hui’s eyes locked onto him, refusing to let him look away. The man’s gaze was razor-sharp, freezing, and carried a terrifyingly oppressive aura. For a brief, agonising moment, the middle-aged man felt as though he were a helpless animal being stared down by a lethal apex predator. His breathing became erratic and uneven as raw panic slowly crept into every corner of his heart.
With such an unbelievable, supernatural ability standing against him, there was absolutely no way he could win this fight. Not against people like this. Not even if he emptied the weapon’s entire magazine into them.
The middle-aged man instinctively took a heavy step backwards, his boots clicking against the floorboards. The arrogant confidence he had possessed just moments earlier had completely vanished into thin air.
"Who the hell are you people?" The middle-aged man demanded, his voice trembling slightly despite trying his absolute best to maintain his professional composure. "Why are you attacking us?"
"Us?" Yu Qi raised an eyebrow, a cold glint passing through her eyes. A faint, deeply mocking smile carved its way onto her lips. "Well, you should know exactly what you have been doing to deserve this."
The middle-aged man’s heart instantly sank into his stomach. At that moment, he understood the reality of the situation completely. These people had not stumbled upon this hidden property by accident. They were here explicitly for the high-value target his team had kidnapped from the conference. The very man was currently locked away inside the darkness of the basement room.
Tang Qin Hao.
The middle-aged man silently cursed his luck. He had originally believed that this assignment would be a walk in the park. His only responsibility was supposed to be watching over the heavily chained captive until further instructions arrived from his handler. He had never in his wildest dreams expected the victim’s rescuers to track down these isolated coordinates so quickly. Nor had he ever expected them to possess such terrifying, reality-bending abilities.
"You came here because of him." The middle-aged man stated, narrowing his eyes as he tried to look for an exit.
"You guessed entirely correctly." Yu Qi smiled, though the expression was predatory. Then, she tilted her head slightly to the side. "But unfortunately for you, there is absolutely no reward for the correct answer."
The middle-aged man stared back at her, paralysed. Although she was smiling beautifully, the warmth never reached her eyes. There was no amusement in her face. No kindness. No mercy. There was only coldness, pure, bone-chilling coldness.
For some inexplicable reason, that serene smile frightened him far more than the sight of Long Hui stopping a speeding bullet out of mid-air. At least Long Hui’s immense strength was visible and comprehensible. Yu Qi, on the other hand, felt like a calm, silent ocean hiding countless monstrous dangers directly beneath its glossy surface.
The middle-aged man suddenly had a very unpleasant, sinking feeling in his gut. A feeling that he had just made the single biggest mistake of his entire life by getting involved in this kidnapping. Unfortunately for him, it was already far too late for regrets.
Yu Qi slowly took a deliberate step forward, her movements graceful yet lethal. The middle-aged man’s entire body immediately stiffened, his muscles locking up in survival mode.
"Now..." Yu Qi said softly, her voice carrying an unmistakable, terrifying threat that echoed in the silence, "Why don’t you save us both some time and tell me exactly where the person is?"
The heavy atmosphere inside the ruined house instantly became suffocatingly thick, making it genuinely difficult to breathe. Even so, trapped in a corner with a gun that had just proven utterly useless, the middle-aged man still desperately wanted to act tough and protect his payout.
"Humph! What on earth makes you think he is even here?" The middle-aged man scoffed arrogantly, trying to project absolute confidence.
Yu Qi and Long Hui did not argue. They merely exchanged a brief, knowing glance. Seeing their silent reaction, the middle-aged man mistakenly assumed he had successfully rattled them and gained the upper hand. His shattered confidence surged once again, filling him with a false sense of security. He even started laughing mockingly, the sound harsh in the ruined foyer.
"I already handed him over to someone else over an hour ago." The middle-aged man smirked, leaning into the lie. "Even if you choose to kill me right now, your precious doctor is already long gone from this place."
The middle-aged man fully expected Yu Qi and Long Hui to become devastated, panicked, or completely desperate after hearing those words. Unfortunately for him, he was destined to be profoundly disappointed.
The exact moment he finished speaking, Yu Qi did not cry or rage. Instead, she suddenly burst into clear, amused laughter. Even Long Hui’s lips curved upward into a faint, highly amused smile. The two of them looked down at the smug middle-aged man as if he were a complete and total idiot.
The middle-aged man’s smirk immediately froze on his face.
"What the hell are you laughing at?" The middle-aged man demanded angrily, his voice cracking slightly.
Being ignored by intruders was one thing, but being laughed at directly to his face while holding a weapon was another entirely. His face darkened instantly with humiliation.
"Is he in the hidden basement over there?" Yu Qi asked casually, her slender finger pointing precisely toward the heavy door leading to the subterranean level.
