Chapter 1214: Prison (8)
500,000 years ago, right after hiding the baby Lilith, Lauren went back to fighting her clansmen.
The Asura Royalty, Lith’s grandfather Kalyndor was surrounded with no way out. He had done his best to stall the two clans, but it was all for naught in the end.
Lauren’s brother Aegis and his friend Hamza worked in sealing the world Lilith was hidden in, pushing it away from Shen Ze’s star system.
Lauren fought members of the two powerhouses on her own. She knew she couldn’t win against them so her only motive now was to stall as much as she could to let Aegis and Hamza succeed.
Needless to say, Lauren fulfilled her motive.
But...
It came at a cost.
The cost was her life.
Surrounded by the Twelve Pillars and two Greats of her clan, Lauren stood calmly in the vast expanse of space.
"You were one of the Three Greats, Lady Lauren. Why did you, of all people, betray us?" A young lady in blue robes spoke.
Lauren stayed silent.
"Death is the only end for traitors. You know it better than anyone else, Lauren." One of the Three Greats, a petite lady wearing cross earrings spoke sharply. Her demeanor was fierce.
"We can’t let you go, Lady Lauren. Even if we wish to, we can’t. The clan’s rules are absolute." A burly man holding a club said solemnly. This was the Eleventh Pillar.
"Lady Lauren, your death will be an example for the generations to come. I hope you don’t blame us because the mess was entirely caused by you." A mature lady with snake-like split tongue commented. She was the Third Pillar.
"My dearest friend, it pains me to see you in this state. It pains me further knowing you had to keep hiding and running even during your pregnancy." A lady with a gentle demeanor sighed. She was one of the Three Greats.
"Well, staying silent now won’t get you our sympathy, Lauren. Better say something now because it’s going to be a long, long sleep for you after today—one from which you’ll never wake up again." The fierce tempered Three Great sneered. She was quite upset with the betrayal.
Lauren glanced at all of them calmly, looking at each and everyone as if she’d remember their appearances.
Some of the Nine Pillars shivered from her gaze. At the end of the day, even if Lauren was deemed a traitor, she was one of the Three Greats, and quite possibly the strongest warrior in the clan.
She was not going down without a tough fight. Some might even lose their life in the upcoming battle, and none of the pillars wanted it to be them personally dying trying to contain this tigress.
Her eyes then locked straight with the ill tempered Three Great and she said, "Violet, if you’re done, start attacking. I don’t have all day to spend on wastrels like you."
A vein popped on the hot-blooded Violet’s head.
"Do you see that, Katherine? Do you see that? And you were asking me to help lessen this traitor’s punishment?" Violet said to the gentle tempered lady beside her.
"Violet, let’s all calm down and have a rational discussion." Katherine sighed and said.
"No. There’s nothing to discuss regarding traitors!" Violet shot back sharply.
As the two ladies bickered, the lady in blue robes turned to look at a tall and lean man holding a spear. His features were androgynous, making him look a mix of a handsome man and a great beauty. One couldn’t exactly point at one thing.
Her gaze was met with his.
She then spoke through her eyes, asking the man to intervene.
He gave her a slight nod and turned to the Three Greats.
"Lady Violet and Lady Katherine, an internal conflict will delay us further. So, let’s focus on the task at hand, shall we?" The man holding his spear said calmly.
Violet and Katherine looked at him and knitted their brows, but did not say anything further.
The words of the Ninth Pillar, Nicholas, held weight as he was the greatest general in all of the clan’s history. Even the Three Greats showed him respect.
General Nicholas then turned to Lauren, who was ready to strike at any moment’s notice.
He placed his hand on his chest and gave her a bow. "Master, your disciple is thankful for your guidance. I am who I am due to your grace and wisdom."
Lauren’s gaze turned slightly soft, but then she knitted them back and said, "I am not your Master, Nicholas. Don’t bow to me."
"One day as my Master, a lifetime as my Master. Whether you accept it or not, the path you showed me is carved into my bones and my blade." Nicholas said calmly with utmost respect.
"Master, to stand against you is to stand against myself. But my duty to the clan outweighs my individual emotions. I do not seek your forgiveness... only that, in another life, I hope you teach me how to choose my heart over my duty."
"Enough!" Violet gritted her teeth. "There’s no need to talk so much with a traitor, Nicholas."
Nicholas gripped his spear tightly, to the point where his muscles bulged and his spear showed signs of cracking.
Still, he did not argue with her and instead turned his blade against his Master.
"Start with it already." Lauren spat. "All of you, come at once."
It was then, the might of an ex-Three Great was witnessed by everyone in Shen Ze.
The world witnessed who Lauren Evure was.
A great battle took place at the edges of Shen Ze and a few pillars lost their lives.
Violet was severely targeted by Lauren even in a group fight and had to retreat first.
Katherine did not participate until the very end when Violet retired. She had to perform her clan duties and couldn’t go without punishing the traitor.
The young lady in blue robes silently prayed that Lauren would escape, but she did not do it.
Lauren fought with her life on the line as she knew there was no other way out.
If she did not stop these guys now, they’d either sabotage Aegis or go after Kalyndor. Both were the worst outcomes.
Eventually, after many days and nights, Lauren’s body was destroyed in battle. Her soul was to be extinguished, but in the final moments, the young lady in blue robes intervened and begged for mercy.
Nicholas joined her in it. He couldn’t pass judgment but he was a damn good general and stated what was right.
The traitor was punished, and had it been someone else, it would’ve made sense for their soul to be extinguished, not letting them reincarnate again.
But, this was one of the Three Great. Her years of service to the clan could not go unnoticed.
In light of that, Katherine took her stance and asked for Lauren’s soul to be imprisoned in the deepest layers of the prison which never saw the light of the day.
However, at the final moment...
"No. Her soul won’t just be imprisoned, but she will be tortured. Tortured for eternity!" Violet intervened. She had an arm missing and was not happy about it.
"Violet, you’re going out of line. Have you forgotten Lauren’s years of service for the clan? She took the clan to greater heights, and you’ve not done even a fraction of it yet." Katherine did not possess the gentle demeanor anymore.
Violet shook her hand. "And what did her years of service amount to? She ended up betraying the clan. I couldn’t say anything when you used your veto to save her soul. But now, I use my veto in favor of eternal torture. Any further argument will—"
Right at this moment, three people stood against Violet.
One of them was Katherine, the Three Great.
The other was a young lady in a blue dress.
And the last one was Nicholas.
Nicholas’s speartip, which had never seen his clansmen, was right at Violet’s neck. His gaze was fierce and his brows were knitted.
His sudden movement shocked the pillars. They all hurriedly stood up and surrounded the three clansmen.
Nicholas did not flinch. Instead, he coldly said, "Lady Violet, I am ready to forget my roots. I’m ready to leave this clan for good if I hear a single word from your mouth. I’ve never gone against my duty and I’ve never done anything which would harm my clan. But, your words... they come from resentment and hatred rather than rationality. They do not hold the clan’s principles. I suggest you choose your next words carefully."
"Violet, you’re going too far with this. Lauren’s been punished enough and it would be unjust to torture her like that." Katherine said.
"Lady Violet, your resentment is blinding you. Please open your eyes and your mind. Look past the jealousy. You are not Lady Lauren, you will never be. This doesn’t mean you are any inferior to her. You are one of the Three Greats and it is expected from you that you look past your own emotions and think for the clan more, rather than revenge." The young lady in blue robes said.
Even though she wasn’t as powerful as Nicholas or Katherine in the room, she was still a Legendary Rank and could back her words.
Violet was boiling in rage, but the odds were completely against her.
Everyone’s power levels were more or less the same in this room.
Although she was a Three Great, she couldn’t overpower Nicholas, Katherine, and this young girl on her own.
She bit her lips hard, to the point where blood oozed out of them.
"I’ll remember this." Violet said and turned around, leaving the room.
When she was gone, Katherine and the young lady in blue robes sighed in relief.
Nicholas pointed his spear down and took a deep breath.
Katherine clapped her hand once. "It is decided. Lauren’s soul will be imprisoned. But there’s more to the discussion now, due to the sudden fiasco. Well, for starters, Nicholas..."
Nicholas got on his knee and awaited punishment.
"For pointing your blade at one of the Three Great..."
Nicholas was punished by being demoted to the Ninth Place and sent to the active battlefields, far away from home for a hundred thousand years.
"And then you, Isa..." Katherine turned to the young lady in blue robes.
Isa got on her knees.
"You’ve been rational throughout, not letting your emotions cloud your judgment. You’ve also been the clan’s Second Pillar for far too long. I think it’s time..."
Isa was promoted to being a Three Great. A vote was done with all the pillars present.
Generally the First Pillar would be the next one to be Three Great but he was killed in battle and it left with Isa.
Isa got the majority of the votes and was eventually chosen as the next Three Great.
The Chapter on Lauren Evure’s life came to a stop here.
