Chapter 1215: Prison (9)
Crack—!
Lith gripped the armrest of his chair with a bit more force than usual, breaking it into pieces.
The current expression on his face was unlike his usual jolly and calm self. There was anger, bitterness, and frustration.
The ladies could feel his intense emotions and could not help themselves from sighing.
Young blood was always hot. Telling Lith the problems of the past may not have been the best option but he deserved to know it.
"Dear, you mustn’t concern yourself with such matters." Lauren spoke with a soft tone, completely unlike her dominant warrior self. This was a sight reserved for people who could be counted on one hand.
This might be the first time his grandmother spoke to him properly since he saw her, and Lith could tell her words contained nothing but love and care.
Lith and Lauren had only just met each other but to Lauren, Lith felt like he was always a part of her.
The level of kinship that Vampires shared, especially one with such a strong bloodline, was on a scale that even a high level Human could not imagine.
Not to mention, Lith looked almost similar to Lilith, her baby daughter she had to part ways when she was not even a few months old.
Lith may not share similar closeness with his grandmother yet, but he cared for her deeply ever since the day he found her existence through his grand uncle’s inheritance.
"Grandma..."
Before Lith could speak, Lilith placed her hand atop Lith’s and shook her head.
Lith looked into his mother’s eyes. There was a sense of relief but hidden behind it was great sadness, one of a helpless girl that could do nothing but watch as her parents fought to their deaths.
Lith’s chest tightened, to the point where he felt his heart might collapse.
His Adam’s apple trembled as he found himself at a loss for words.
’Mom’s asking me to not disobey grandma...’ Lith thought as he saw the meaning behind his mother’s expression.
Lith turned to see Lauren again. She sat there with a mellow expression with her legs crossed and hands on her lap.
She seemed like a young mother of a toddler who was giving her a hard time and stressed her. She looked like someone who just wanted a break.
There was the charm of motherhood, and the warmth of having a baby whom she loved deeply, but... but she just needed a break. Really seriously.
That’s the mood Lith could read on her.
He could understand why his mother was asking him to not disobey his grandmother now.
Lith sighed. "Grandma... I..."
He was at a loss for words. He didn’t know what to say anymore.
Should he stop the war he waged and give up everything? Or should he kill every single person or what?
What was he supposed to do?
What did his grandmother and mother mean by their sad expressions?
Lith could not figure it out and was at a loss.
Lauren’s gaze turned gentle as she saw her grandson’s confused expression.
She was a warrior through and through. She knew what those confused eyes meant.
Lauren looked at the lamp in the room, turning her gaze away from Lith’s.
"War has never ended well for anyone. Many lose their lives in a meaningless battle, and even the victors do not understand whether they’ve truly won or not."
Lith listened quietly.
Lilith was quiet too.
"My child, I won’t ask you to give up what’s in your heart, but I would ask you to listen to your rationale and do not let resentment cloud your judgement."
Lauren then turned to peer straight into Lith’s eyes.
"A long time has already passed and grandma is just... tired."
Lauren paused for a second and closed her eyes.
"You, your sister, and your mother are my only family now. I don’t wish for anything to happen to you three. I can’t..."
Lauren’s lips quivered.
She couldn’t act tough anymore or stay strong.
"...I can’t bear the pain of losing my loved ones again."
"Mom!" Lilith rushed to her mother’s side and hugged her.
"I’m sorry..." Tears leaked out of Lauren’s eyes.
For hundreds of thousands of years, this mother had to bear with the pain of losing her husband and her newborn daughter, without having the slightest knowledge of whether they’re alive or not
Every single moment, Lauren, even though in a soul form, had wondered how her daughter was doing.
She was so little that she couldn’t survive by herself. What would the world do to her?
It sent shivers down Lauren’s spine.
She had lost hopes after a few thousand years and turned into a living corpse, thinking her daughter may not have survived.
But...
There was a glimmer of hope.
A hope that she was hers, the Great Lauren’s daughter at the end of the day, so by some miracle she may have found courage to survive.
This slight hope was what kept Lauren from completely collapsing.
The emotional turmoil Lauren went through after she met Lilith a while ago had not passed.
Only Lilith knew just what state her mother was in when she met her, and this was something would rather not talk about.
It took her a lot of effort, lots and lots of effort to actually free her mother from collapsing completely.
One of the things Lilith did was erase most of the memories of her father from her mother’s mind.
He was a man she loved deeply, to the point where if Lilith did not exist, she would’ve killed herself.
His death was still affecting her deeply and Lilith had to erase these memories.
Lauren only knew that she had a husband and who he was but had forgotten most of the stuff. There wasn’t any love for him anymore.
This was one load off her chest.
But...
Even still, the pain was so much that Lauren could not help from breaking down again.
She sobbed in her daughter’s embrace and Lilith rubbed her back.
Lith had rushed to his grandmother’s side as well the moment he saw Lilith rushing.
He stood behind her and hugged her tightly too, sandwiching her with his mother.
’Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! How shitty it is that I can’t do anything to comfort grandma!’ Lith’s eyes were teary too but he did not cry or let even a tear leak.
This wasn’t the moment to cry. This was to help a young mother from collapsing completely.
"Grandma, I am here now. Mother is here too. We are all here and not going anywhere. So please..." Lith’s voice trembled again. "Please stay strong."
"Mom..." Lilith was in an emotional turmoil too.
If it wasn’t for how strong her cultivation was along with her mental fortitude, she would’ve collapsed alongside her mother when she saw the painful memories hidden in her.
"Mom, your daughter is not going anywhere. And everything is fine now. Truly."
Lilith then got on her knees and looked into her mother’s deep amber eyes.
"Look at me."
Lauren’s eyes were filled with tears and kept leaking. All she could see was a blur.
Lilith wiped her eyes and said again, "Look at me, mom."
Lauren’s eyes focused on her daughter.
It was the beautiful face of a young lady, a peerless celestial beauty that not even creations itself could create.
Though such was the case, all Lauren could see was the sight of her baby daughter whom she had lost. It was like the daughter of that time was speaking to her, making her cry a lot more.
"Mom... mom!" Lilith held Lauren’s face and squished it slightly, making her focus completely on her.
"Mom, stop with your unnecessary thoughts or I’ll get angry!" Lilith said with knitted brows with a tone filled with grief and annoyance.
This was the first time Lith was looking at such a side of his mother.
At this moment, he knew he was completely helpless and had to let his mother take over.
It was because Lauren hadn’t lost him, but Lilith.
She had reunited with her long lost baby, and this was their moment.
All Lith could do was stand behind his grandmother, hugging her and providing warmth as his mother did the talking.
"Oh my poor poor baby..." Lauren stroked Lilith’s face. "How beautiful of a young lady you’ve turned into. Mama just wishes that..."
"Mom, stop with that." Lilith squished her mother’s face, trying to bring her back to reality.
"Just be quiet and hear me out, okay?"
The expression of grief was gone from Lilith’s face.
All that was left was a daughter’s conviction.
Lauren blinked in a zoned out manner.
"I said, okay!? At least give me a nod if you’re listening!" Lilith expressed fake annoyance, trying to incite a reaction out of her mother.
Lauren’s eyes had clarity returned to them.
She gave Lilith a faint nod.
"Okay..." There was a faint whisper of an agreement.
"Good." Lilith said as she continued to squish her mother’s face.
"Now listen, mom."
Lauren stared at Lilith.
Lith too stared at her, wondering what she was about to say.
"Your worries are needless." Lilith said it straight, almost giving an ultimatum. "Your daughter is not going anywhere. She will be with you, for as long as you want, and as long as you don’t get tired of her presence."
Lauren’s eyes flickered, with a sense of profound sadness. What was going on in her head was something only she knew.
"Hey, stop wandering around and listen to me!" Lilith gently shook her, getting her attention back almost instantly.
"I said your worries are needless because there’s one thing you’re not aware of, mom."
Lauren blinked.
Lith rubbed his grandmother’s arms and placed his chin on her head, trying to warm her up and let her stay focused. Though, he kept one of his ears open and was listening in on the conversation.
Lilith stood up and bent down, bringing her face almost an inch away from her mother’s.
"Mom, you don’t know this, and not even my darling boy or my baby girl does, but..."
Lilith pointed a finger at herself.
"...I am the strongest."
BOOOOM—!
Outside the underground prison, within the starry sky everywhere in the cosmos, thunder roared and the celestial heavens let out a furious cry.
All being under the heavens felt a slight tremble and afraid of the sudden darkness looming above their heads.
Every single cultivator, be it in long seclusion or outside, felt something wrong with the Dao as their internal environment felt a slight turmoil.
The celestial phenomenon was impossible to explain, and many wondered what was up with Heaven’s Will.
The cosmos was in an uproar and complete chaos.
Back in the underground prison.
Clarity returned completely to Lauren’s eyes. It was as if she had gotten totally sober from a long night of drinking.
She blinked a few times and stared at her daughter’s face which was just an inch away from hers.
’I am the strongest.’ These words rang in her ears.
Behind her, Lith raised his eyebrows in amusement as he felt chills from his mother’s simple boasting.
He thought maybe she was trying to instill confidence into his grandmother, but then there was something about her words that stirred something within his very essence.
’What does she mean by strongest? Like strongest compared to what? Strongest in Shen Ze? Strongest in Lower Realm? Strongest in the Upper Realm? What is it...’
No matter how much Lith racked his brain, he couldn’t figure it out.
Snap!
"Owf..."
A sharp snap broke Lith’s thoughts and made him turn towards it.
Looking at it, he saw his mother rubbing her forehead and crying out in annoyance.
Meanwhile, his grandmother had a subtle smile on her face.
"Mom, what’s wrong with you?" Lilith complained in an exaggerated playful tone.
"Young lady, you’ve got something wrong with your words." Lauren said in a gentle tone.
Lilith stopped rubbing her forehead and got on her knees, hugging her mother’s waist.
She looked at her and then rolled her eyes. "What? You don’t believe that I’m the strongest? Do you think I’m joking?"
Lauren shook her head. "No. What you got wrong was telling me I’d get tired of being with my dearest daughter."
"Ah..." Her mother’s words cut through Lilith’s heart like a hot knife on butter, making her face gently flush.
It completely took her aback and she was at a loss on the reply.
The celestial phenomenon outside stopped.
The darkness along with the thunder disappeared and the sunshine of a warm spring morning shone upon all, bringing gentleness and joy.
All cultivators under the heavens felt their cultivation get slightly better just from basking in this glory.
The lower level ones even felt their bottlenecks break, and this brought a chaotic upheaval everywhere, causing all places to be in chaos once again.
Back to Lauren’s chamber, nothing of outside concerned the mother-daughter pair or their spectating son/grandson.
Lith had a smile on his face as he watched the warm interaction of his mother and grandmother.
He wished he could record and keep these moments forever, but they were a tad bit too intimate to actually get recorded. He’d get a great scolding from both these beauties, and getting on their nerves was the last thing he wished.
Getting in their panties was an entirely different matter though.
