Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Wushi powder was originally a medicine for treating typhoid fever.

Yet this medicine carried certain side effects: it could leave one mentally dazed and induce sensations similar to narcotics such as ecstasy.

Long-term use could easily lead to addiction.

No wonder Tang Ming’s mental state seemed so unhinged.

Tang Yueshan’s expression was a storm of anger and regret. “I beat those people up… I beat him too, and ordered him never to associate with them again. Otherwise, I would kill them all!”

“And then he attacked you?” Gu Jiao asked.

Tang Yueshan replied bitterly, “He tried to kill himself. When I tried to snatch the blade from him, I accidentally wounded myself.”

As the saying went, family disgrace should not be made public. Outwardly they claimed to be uncle and nephew, but both Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng were well aware that in truth, Tang Yueshan and Tang Ming were father and son.

To have things escalate to such a degree truly left him with no face to show.

“What do you plan to do?” Gu Jiao asked Tang Yueshan.

With Tang Yueshan’s archery skills, one arrow could easily bring him down. The problem was, once he fell, the torch in his hand would also drop, and if it ignited the entire teahouse, it would be disastrous.

Staring at the half-delirious Tang Ming on the roof, Tang Yueshan could not hide the difficulty in his voice. “I want to calm him down first, lure him down. But he doesn’t seem to be listening to me at all right now.”

Gu Jiao said, “He just inhaled Wushi powder, his emotions are unstable. You stay here and talk to him, I’ll go up and seize him.”

Tang Yueshan stopped her. “No! The roof is covered in kerosene!”

Gu Jiao’s expression grew solemn. “My mother and my younger brother are inside the teahouse.”

Tang Yueshan was choked speechless.

After a long pause, he managed to squeeze out a few awkward words. “I’m sorry…”

Gu Jiao answered evenly, “Let’s not talk about that now. Stick to the plan.”

“…Alright!” Tang Yueshan clenched his fists and agreed.

“Be careful.” Xiao Heng reminded Gu Jiao.

“I understand. Wait for me here.” Gu Jiao said, then turned and slipped into the teahouse’s backyard through a side alley.

The backyard was in ruins from the fire. The open flames were out, but many small flickers still burned. Constables were busy putting them out, while carefully keeping their movements restrained, afraid of provoking Tang Ming on the roof.

Tang Ming swayed precariously, as though the next instant he and the torch would tumble down together.

Tang Yueshan quickly called out, “Ming’er, come down, let’s talk this through! I won’t stop you from making friends anymore! Whatever you want to do, just do it! Your uncle won’t stand in your way!”

“Uncle…” That word seemed to set Tang Ming off. His eyes suddenly sharpened, and he turned his mocking gaze upon Tang Yueshan down on the street.

The Wushi powder had strong effects; his vision was blurred, yet no matter how blurred, he could still recognize his so-called “good uncle.”

He suddenly broke into a mad laugh. “Uncle… uncle… are you really my uncle? Are you? Do you dare swear to heaven that you are truly my uncle by blood?”

The crowd of onlookers turned their eyes toward Tang Yueshan in confusion.

What did Tang Ming mean by this?

Tang Yueshan was his father’s younger brother, naturally that made him his biological uncle.

Among the three words “uncle by blood,” everyone’s attention was drawn to the last two words.

Could it be that Tang Yueshan was not the biological son of Old Master Tang, and thus he and Tang Ming were not true uncle and nephew?

Impossible. Tang Yueshan’s looks resembled Old Master Tang so closely that no one who had seen them together would doubt they were father and son.

Tang Yueshan’s cheeks burned hot. “Ming’er! Come down first! We can talk once we’re home!”

“Go home with you? Who would want that!” Tang Ming roared. “Do you dare announce to the whole world the fine things you’ve done?”

The crowd grew all the more intrigued, so the Tang Family had some juicy scandal?

Xiao Heng spoke coolly. “Tang Ming, by doing this, where do you place your mother? If you won’t consider others, will you not at least consider your mother?”

If the truth of father and son were exposed, Tang Yueshan would surely be condemned, but Madame Tang could not escape blame either.

A married woman unable to endure her loneliness, seducing her husband’s younger brother; once that rumor spread, Madame Tang would be drowned in the spittle of the people.

Perhaps it was Xiao Heng’s words that roused what little reason Tang Ming still possessed, but he swallowed back the earth-shattering secret at the tip of his tongue.

Xiao Heng, leaving no loophole, continued, “Your mother will worry. Come down quickly.”

Tang Ming sneered. “Come down? In your dreams!”

Xiao Heng lowered his voice and asked Tang Yueshan, “Does he have something he desperately wants?”

A flash of insight struck Tang Yueshan. “The Tang Family bow.”

Tang Ming had always wanted to obtain the Tang Family bow and become the heir to the Tang Family’s military legacy.

Unfortunately, Tang Yueshan had never been satisfied with him.

Just before Tang Yueshan’s expedition, the two of them had even quarreled over the Tang Family bow, and recalling it now, he realized his words back then had been overly harsh.

“Could it be… that this is why Ming’er went to take Wushi powder?”

Tang Yueshan had always been careless with family matters, only now realizing belatedly that Tang Ming had been trying all along to become the successor in his eyes. Even after being beaten soundly by Gu Jiao and nearly becoming a cripple, he had not given up.

He had trained diligently, working to restore his body.

He had been filled with eager anticipation to inherit the Tang Family bow, only to be met with his father’s harsh opposition.

Being told that he was unworthy.

Xiao Heng made a decisive call. “Give him the Tang Family bow.”

Tang Yueshan was stunned. “What?”

Xiao Heng said calmly, “Declare him the next master of the Tang Family bow.”

Tang Yueshan’s expression changed drastically. “Impossible!”

Xiao Heng pressed, “What’s more important, the bow, or your son?”

“They are both important… But…” Tang Yueshan frowned.

“There is no but.” Xiao Heng cut him off, no longer wasting time arguing with Tang Yueshan. He raised his voice toward the man on the roof. “Tang Ming, if you die, the Tang Family bow will forever belong to someone else.”

At the mention of the Tang Family bow, a flicker of obsession flashed across Tang Ming’s eyes.

Meanwhile, Gu Jiao was slowly climbing up the courtyard wall. The surface, slick with kerosene, made it treacherously slippery, and she nearly fell several times.

Inside his wide sleeves, Xiao Heng’s hand clenched tightly. He said to Tang Yueshan, “If you don’t hand it over now, both your son and JiaoJiao will lose their lives!”

Grinding his teeth, Tang Yueshan went to his carriage and brought out his Tang Family bow.

Tang Ming’s gaze turned greedy as it fell upon that bow.

Taking a deep breath, Tang Yueshan forced out the words with difficulty, “Come down, and I’ll give you the Tang Family bow.”

Tang Ming sneered coldly. “Give it to me first, then I’ll come down!”

“Give it to him!” Xiao Heng commanded.

Tang Yueshan bit hard on his teeth and flung the longbow in his hand toward the roof.

Even under the influence of the Wushi powder, Tang Ming remained wary of his surroundings. But the instant the Tang Family bow flew toward him, he was utterly consumed, his eyes seeing nothing else but the bow.

One hand clutched the torch, while the other stretched out in desperate haste.

Now!

Gu Jiao leapt, one hand seizing the eaves. With a strong pull, she swung herself up in midair, flipped cleanly over, and landed firmly behind Tang Ming, then drove her foot into his back, kicking him straight down!

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
