Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

Tang Ming and the torch in his hand fell together, landing on an open patch of ground where no fire oil had been spilled, so even if the torch fell, it would cause no harm.

As for what kind of pig-headed mess Tang Ming would end up after the fall, that was not within Gu Jiao’s scope of concern.

Gu Jiao stretched out her hand and, with casual ease, caught the Tang Family bow.

Tang Yueshan, despite the wound in his abdomen, leapt into the air and caught the falling Tang Ming mid-air.

The torch landed on the ground, causing no injuries or damage.

Suspended briefly in midair, Tang Yueshan glanced at Gu Jiao, who was toying with the Tang Family bow, and growled fiercely, “You are not allowed to touch my Tang Family bow!”

Gu Jiao gave a careless “oh,” and then, with extreme arrogance, ran her hand along the bow from end to end, not even sparing the bowstring.

Tang Yueshan: “...!!”

Tang Ming had his acupoints sealed by Tang Yueshan and was carried off to the carriage.

With the crisis over, the government officers rushed into the teahouse to rescue people.

Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng found Yao shi and Gu Xiaobao, both badly frightened, in the private room at the far end of the second floor.

Gu Xiaobao was a quiet child, but sometimes his silence was so complete that it made people’s hearts ache.

Xiao Heng picked Gu Xiaobao up; the child lay against his brother-in-law’s chest, completely motionless.

He was truly terrified.

Gu Jiao helped Yao shi, whose legs had gone weak, to her feet and asked, “Mother, are you hurt?”

Yao shi rubbed her chest, still shaken, and said, “No, I’m not hurt.”

“Your hand is bleeding.” Gu Jiao noticed that the back of Yao shi’s right hand was smeared with blood.

Yao shi lifted her hand to look and said, “Perhaps I scraped it just now by accident.”

Gu Jiao examined the wound; it was an open cut, but not too serious. She said, “This place isn’t safe, let’s go out first.”

The four of them went downstairs.

Their carriage was parked nearby. Gu Jiao first cleaned and dressed Yao shi’s wound on the carriage, while Xiao Heng took Yao shi and Gu Xiaobao back to Bishui Alley. Gu Jiao went to treat the rest of the injured townsfolk.

Tang Yueshan did not leave.

He was waiting for Gu Jiao.

But he did not rush her. Only when Gu Jiao had finished with the last patient did he summon her to his carriage.

Tang Ming had fainted; both his pulse and breathing were unstable.

Tang Yueshan said with difficulty, “I know you hate Ming’er. If you don’t want to treat him, I won’t blame you.”

Gu Jiao said, “His illness does not need me to treat it. If he quits the Wushi powder, he can recover without medicine.”

Tang Yueshan was a little incredulous. “Truly?”

“Truly.” Gu Jiao nodded.

On this point, she was not lying to Tang Yueshan.

The grievances between her and Tang Ming were in the past; Tang Ming had already paid the price for what he had done. As long as he did not come to provoke her again, she would not hound him to the end.

“Though it’s not so easy to quit.” She emphasized.

“I will stay with him.” Tang Yueshan said.

Gu Jiao gave him a surprised look.

The great Supreme Commander actually had such a deeply earnest side.

Tang Yueshan said with melancholy, “He already knows he was wrong… back then, the reason he indulged himself so recklessly was all because of me. He harbored resentment toward me in his heart, and then my elder brother also…”

He deliberately led him astray, which resulted in the temperament and sense of right and wrong he came to possess.

These words Tang Yueshan did not speak aloud.

Instead, he said guiltily, “For the past two years he has been working hard to change himself, wanting to prove it to me, but I have cruelly denied him again and again.”

Gu Jiao asked, “Why deny him? Is it because you don’t like him?”

Tang Yueshan shook his head. “No, he is my own son. How could I not like him?” His denial of Tang Ming was for other reasons.

Gu Jiao asked curiously, “He has done so many hateful things, have you never thought about not wanting him?”

Tang Yueshan replied firmly, “Never. When he does wrong, I will beat him, scold him, and punish him, but I will never cast him away.”

Gu Jiao fell into thoughtful silence.

……

Tang Ming’s episode left a small impact on Gu Jiao’s thoughts.

That the clever and well-behaved younger generation received their parents’ love was not surprising, but even for a son like Tang Ming, Tang Yueshan had never once thought of giving him up.

From Tang Yueshan, Gu Jiao felt a strength she herself had always lacked.

That strength influenced her and began to change her state of mind.

When they returned to Bishui Alley, Yao shi and Gu Xiaobao were already much better. Yao shi was in the courtyard playing leaf cards with Grandaunt, while Gu Xiaobao had been dragged to the backyard by the just-returned-from-school Little Jing Kong to groom the horse king and Black Wind King.

The two horses were sprawled on the ground.

The horse king was utterly disdainful, rolling its eyes dramatically.

But it could not kick and resist, for Black Wind King would beat it up.

——Even though it was already three years old, it still was not a match for Black Wind King, truly a story sadder than sadness itself.

Black Wind King, however, was very friendly toward human children. Gu Xiaobao sprawled his small body over its neck.

Having just been through a great fright, Gu Xiaobao was soothed by Black Wind King’s powerful yet gentle presence.

He was no longer so afraid.

Toward evening, Xuanyuan Qi and his son, along with Duke An, also came over.

Duke An’s visits were always particular. He usually chose times when Grandaunt was also present.

The three of them presented the birthday gifts they had prepared for Gu Xiaoshun.

Gu Xiaoshun was a bit dazed.

It was just a small birthday, so why had so many big figures come?

Then that night, Gu Changqing and Gu Chengfeng also arrived.

Looking at the armful of birthday gifts stuffed into his embrace, Gu Xiaoshun felt like a dazed little fruit hanging from the dazed tree, “There’s no need to make such a grand fuss… it’s just seventeen… it’s not even the coming-of-age ceremony… Are you really celebrating my birthday… or just using it as an excuse to come to Bishui Alley?”

Gu Chengfeng winked at him. “What do you think?”

In an instant Gu Xiaoshun had a revelation, clenching his fist. “Of course it’s to celebrate my birthday!”

The Gu brothers: “…”

Gu Chengfeng gave an awkward laugh. “Well… having a simple mind isn’t so bad.”

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
