Chapter 644 - 13: The Abnormal Forest

Chapter 644: Chapter 13: The Abnormal Forest

Lynch and Kong walked side by side through the ancient forest.

Underfoot was a thick layer of leaves emitting a faint golden glow; they were exceptionally soft, almost silent when stepped on. The air was moist and fresh, filled with a subtle aroma reminiscent of post-rain minerals mixed with strange flowers and grasses.

The trunks of the tall trees displayed a gentle jade white or pale gold color, and their smooth bark was adorned with vine-like flowing crystals. The leaves shimmered with metallic hues of silver, blue, and purple. When the eternal golden “skylight” filtered through the gaps in the canopy, a tranquil and enigmatic halo flowed throughout the forest’s interior.

However, as they proceeded deeper, Lynch keenly sensed a hint of discord.

The terrain was descending.

This sensation was initially slight but grew increasingly noticeable. They were not ascending a mountain but rather following a gradual yet steady downward slope.

This made him furrow his brow slightly.

From the vantage point of the Flying Aircraft’s landing site, this forest clearly lay upon the island’s plains, offering an open view without evident hollows or deep valleys.

Yet now, the surrounding trees seemed to grow taller, the canopy denser, blocking more of the skylight, darkening the forest slightly, with only the luminous plants and vines providing illumination.

“Strange…” Lynch murmured quietly, his grey eyes scanning the surroundings. The forest still appeared dreamily beautiful, but this ongoing downward trend was at odds with the island’s overall floating feeling, as if they were walking into a vast, invisible “bowl bottom.”

What further aroused his curiosity were the scattered “foreign objects” amid the woods.

Initially appearing sporadically: a metal plate half-buried under Fluorescent Moss, edges corroded and covered with strange moss;

A segment of wood with unique grain, obviously artificially processed, now enveloped in glowing fungi, resembling a thick “beam;”

Rivets deeply embedded in a massive jade-white trunk, only the hemispherical tops exposed, the material neither metallic nor stony, reflecting a cold, hard sheen in the faint light, starkly contrasting with the vibrant environment.

The deeper they ventured, the more frequent and concentrated these traces became.

Huge broken gears wedged between twisted roots, crystal vines wrapped around the teeth, seemingly gently “imprisoned” by the forest;

Distorted metal tubular structures slanted into the ground, from the openings sprouted clusters of eerie flowers emitting dark blue light;

A large remnant of an apparently arch-shaped shell covered entirely by the thick, blanket-like green Fluorescent Moss, revealing only a menacing fractured edge, resembling the remains of a metallic behemoth asleep within the forest.

The tactile sensation of the “leaf layer” underfoot grew complex, sometimes stepping on hard, cold fragments—shards of ceramic, crystal, or some hardened aggregate.

The entire forest seemed to grow atop a vast “dumping ground,” buried with time and vegetation!

Nature and artificial remains coexisted in an eerie yet harmonious manner. The glowing vines and moss, with astonishing vitality, were slowly devouring, covering, and integrating these creations foreign to the dreamlike realm.

Lynch stopped, bent down, and picked up a palm-sized fragment from the root of a fern emitting purple light.

One side of the shard was smooth, bearing energy circuit burn marks on metal, while the other was covered thickly with a pulsating, living moss of dark green color. He rubbed the cold metallic edge with his fingers, observing the various forms wrapped in vegetation around him.

“This forest… seems somewhat off.”

At this moment, Kong’s voice came from beside him; she seemed to have noticed the anomaly too.

She frowned, saying: “The terrain here continues to descend, and… remnants of artificial creations are everywhere. This was not naturally formed. It’s more like…”

Lynch picked up her thought, surveying the surroundings slowly: “…more like a massive impact crater or… debris from a colossal object that fell, covered by the forest over the long years.”

Kong’s eyes brightened, clapping her hands: “Right, I was wondering why this place felt so odd, and as you described, it does seem like it.”

“But what could cause such an extensive Collision?” Follow current ɴᴏᴠᴇʟs on NoveI~Fire.net

Kong touched her chin, quickly deciding: “Let me expand my Domain for a look.”

With that, she closed her eyes and expanded her Void Domain outward, the powerful spiritual power instantly covering the entire area, exposing the complete view of the forest unreservedly to Kong’s Spiritual Vision.

Suddenly, her eyes filled with astonishment: “This… this is…”

“Wuuu—!!!”

Right then, a piercing and youthful yet immensely energy-laden whale cry, like the sorrowful scream of an injured young beast, suddenly transmitted from deeper within the forest, from the lowest hollow in the terrain! This sound pierced through layers upon layers of ancient trees and vines, bringing intense pain, anger, and…a hint of familiar Spirit fluctuations!

Lynch and Kong exchanged a glance, wordlessly, both having the same realization—it’s the Unicorn Whale Calf! And it is in danger!

“Go!”

Without hesitation, their figures vanished instantly from where they stood, leaving only leaves and luminous dust swirling in the air as they raced.

They sped like two streaks of light tearing through the Dark Forest, disregarding the tangled roots and drooping luminous vines, accelerating to the limit, following the increasingly clear and hurried cry, and the energy Collision waves, rushing towards the forest’s deepest part, the center of that huge “bowl bottom!”

The closer to the center, the lower the terrain, the taller and more ancient the surrounding trees became, the scale of the remnants became more astonishing, even seeing some as high as tens of meters, like twisted metal structures reminiscent of giant shipwrecks partly buried beneath earth and vegetation. The air was filled with a thick scent of blood and the burnt odor of energy!

Soon!

They broke through the last barrier of dense luminous vines entangled with metal pipes, and the scene before them opened up suddenly, yet was also shocking!

This was a relatively open hollow, clearly the center of a massive impact crater. The ground was covered with a thick layer of luminous moss and ferns, but now, these plants were heavily trampled and shredded, exposing the black soil and broken metal plates beneath.

And in the center of the hollow, a colossal entity was locked in a fierce struggle!

It was the very purpose of their quest, the Unicorn Whale Calf!
