Chapter 591: Mountain Peak
“Selling whiskey! Come ‘ere, you bastards!”
“Free alcohol here!”
“Join the never-ending money church! The entrance fee is only 100 Trell!”
The stroll through the city was pretty lively, and he could definitely feel that adventurous energy from the people here.
This city reminded him of the usual fantasy cities he saw in the MMORPG games he used to play way back when. The cherry on top would probably be an adventurers’ guild, but there’s no way something like that—
“Come register at the adventurers’ guild! We’re trying to overtake the mercenary guild!”
Seems like I missed the mark on that one, Rael thought with a chuckle and continued on ahead.
His strength had returned a fair deal since he left his house, and by now, he was sure his strength was pretty much at the peak of what this body could offer.
Rather, he was probably one meal away from reaching his peak condition.
But he was way too eager to get this quest started. After all, if he was going to be heading to a water city, he was bound to get some free food.
And food always tastes better when it’s free. Newest update provıded by novel★fire.net
After a couple more minutes, he arrived in front of a large building that resembled more of a castle. Two armored guards stood by, but upon noticing him, they simply nodded and continued keeping watch.
Guess I am a familiar face here? Works for me, Rael thought and went inside. After a few turns, he arrived at the reception.
Honestly, with how loud the adventurers’ guild was being, he was certain that the mercenary guild would be a very big deal. However, aside from the two guards up front, he had only seen around nine people so far, three of whom were the receptionists.
Still, he walked up to one of the reception desks and stared at the receptionist blankly.
“Um… Can I help you?” the receptionist asked.
Rael nodded with a smile. “I’m here for the request that has something to do with Coralia?”
“Coralia… Oh! Yes, I remember now.” The receptionist walked toward the room in the back, then came out with a scroll, plopping it down in front of him.
“Your group already left two hours ago, but if you hurry up, you should still be able to catch up,” she added.
“I see…” Rael trailed off, inspecting the scroll. It was just basic mission information, and it was pretty much identical to what he had read earlier.
But then there was one more issue he wanted to quickly address.
“Could you give me a map?”
“That’ll be 50 Trell,” she replied instantly.
Rael’s brow twitched. “…Could you put that on my tab?”
“I’m afraid that with tabs, you’ll garner interest very quickly,” the receptionist replied ominously. “Since you’ll be gone for a week, you’ll have to pay nearly 500 Trell upon returning. Are you okay with that?”
He felt like his perception of money was a little messed up, because that amount he could probably make in less than a millisecond.
Still, he nodded at the receptionist, and after another brief exchange, she handed him a map. It was the map of this country, Njordal.
It was a pretty big country, with nearly ten cities and three different biomes. To get to Coralia, he would need to head straight south, cross an icy mountain range, and then walk a couple more kilometers to get there.
“So my group is already heading there, huh,” Rael mumbled, storing the map.
“They’re taking a carriage, so they’ll very likely arrive by early morning tomorrow,” the receptionist explained. “If you take a slightly faster carriage, you should be able to catch up to them. Granted, an expensive carriage is close to 10,000 Trell per kilometer. Only nobles dare to use it.”
Yeah, fuck that.
“I’ll just run,” Rael replied. “Thanks for the help, by the way. I’ll make sure one of my party members pays you, ‘kay?”
The receptionist became flustered for a moment, but as she was about to reply, Rael abruptly stormed out of the mercenary guild headquarters and ran south.
He was nowhere near as fast as he was in his main body, but… well, it was a start.
Nonetheless, he was getting that strange feeling again.
Back when he had first invaded Jashin’s mind, he was certain that the interactions didn’t feel this realistic. Now, it actually felt like he was here, in Njordal, talking to a real receptionist.
Maybe I am here…? Rael wondered with a slight frown. I did enter her dreams, but maybe my Fate affinity and Law of Time mastery had something to do with it, sending me back in time to experience this memory… dream firsthand.
It was a total shitshow of a spiral that he didn’t even bother trying to decipher.
By nightfall, he had arrived at the base of the mountain range. There were two options here, one of which was a little bit faster, while the other a lot safer.
With the first, he could literally scale the entire mountain range and then slide down the other side. It would likely not even take him that long, maybe five or six hours.
But then there was the second option, where all he had to do was cross through a tunnel that was far east of the mountain range. It was the same tunnel through which his teammates were supposed to go as well.
Though, did Aurelius have some beef with them? I can’t imagine my fellow teammates not waiting for me. Even worse, they’d probably break my door down and wake me up if they had to, Rael pondered. Though I guess I’ll only see once I catch up with them.
And of course, the only way he could catch up with them at the moment was by scaling the entire mountain range.
Rael gulped and then took a few steps closer to the mountain, the cold wind brushing against his skin and sending a shiver down his spine.
“…”
I’m so fucked.
