Chapter 593: Being Let In
“Hmm…”
As he stared at the inside of a prison cell, Rael began to re-evaluate his choices.
He had introduced himself kindly, and he was also prepared to waltz on in after his team. Instead, they put cuffs on him and threw him inside some dark dungeon.
After fiddling around with the steel bars, he realized they were fairly sturdy. Getting out would be difficult, so he decided to put his hopes in his teammates.
And because of that, he simply sat down in the dark corner and waited.
A couple of minutes passed, then an hour, and after nearly 12 hours, he finally heard a pair of footsteps approaching the cell.
When he looked up, he spotted two of the fish people staring at him. One was ordained in some fancy blue armor, while the other wore a robe.
“When this self-proclaimed party of yours arrived, they stated there would only be four people coming,” one of them said. “I’ve asked that party about you, and they told me it’s impossible for you to be here. Furthermore, they told me that even if you were here, you should get out.”
“Listen here, fishie…” Rael stood up with a frown and approached the bars. “I don’t know what’s up with my party, but I’m here on mercenary business. I even got a scroll to prove it.”
With those words, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a half-ripped scroll that was slightly frozen. Even so, the content on it remained the same, and it was still readable enough for the fishies to understand.
While they frowned at him, they still took the scroll. After reading through it, they passed it back.
“I see…” the fishie in the robe mumbled. “You’re indeed here on business. The same business the others are here for as well. You may remain here if you wish. Also, do not take this to heart, but your ’teammates’ don’t seem to like you very much. It’s best you avoid them.”
He was a little surprised by how nice the fishies were, so he simply nodded in response. After that, they unlocked the cell and let him free.
Although he was a little skeptical about how easily they were letting him off the hook, he continued up the staircase and finally arrived inside the lively city.
Everywhere smelled like fish, but near the restaurants, the fish smell was particularly nice. He was kind of eager to try out some food, but…
•—Balance: 19 Trell—•
He’s as broke as I was in the past. Rael thought, and while he was at it, he decided to do a quick skim through this guy’s stats.
Name: Aurelius
Age: 19
Race: Human
Level: 150
Experience: 55,299 / 183,711
•—Balance: 19 Trell—•
•—Stats—•
Health Points (HP): 45,000
Mana Points (MP): 15,000
Strength: 10,000
Agility: 5,000
Constitution: 4,500
Intelligence: 1,500
Archangel’s Wisdom: 500
Charisma: 10,000
It’s pretty plain, and the stats are obviously fixed. Though, his stats are definitely above average for his level.
Rael was just a little abnormal since at this level, his stats neared 100,000 in almost every category, but that was because of the nectars he consumed.
Even so, he didn’t mind it too much and continued walking through the city. For a city that was supposed to be standing guard against a monster wave, they were very unfazed.
However, it seemed like the peacefulness was about to end.
Floating in the sky, a couple hundred meters away from the city, were five winged gargoyles. They looked grotesque, but they were also strong.
And when Rael spotted them, the gargoyles shook before nose-diving toward the city.
Rael narrowed his eyes and glanced around. It seemed like no one had noticed these gargoyles. Therefore, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
He ran up to a restaurant and picked up a few skewers. After that, with every bit of strength he had, he launched two of them into the sky.
One of them missed, while the other…
-20,000! Critical Hit!
<Demonic Gargoyle (x1) [Level 75] has been killed!>
No experience? Rael raised a brow. How do these people level up then?
As the grotesque gargoyle fell from the sky, the others continued hurtling down toward the city. However, right as they reached the wall, another skewer came flying at them, piercing through one.
Then another, and another…
-21,000! Critical Hit!
-20,500! Critical Hit!
-19,500! Critical Hit!
<Demonic Gargoyle (x3) [Level 75] has been killed!>
With only one remaining, Rael was about to throw yet another skewer at it. However, it seemed like he was too late as the gargoyle perched itself on top of the wall.
It extended its wings, and out of them, small spikes flew out, heading toward the fishies on the ground.
Rael kicked off the ground, grabbed one of the nearby armored guards by the scruff, and used him as a shield to block the spikes.
But in the end, he was only one guy, so he couldn’t defend hundreds of fishies from harm’s way.
Yet as he thought some casualties were inevitable, a thin golden barrier appeared around him, as well as many other fishies. Specifically, every fish person who was in harm’s way.
As the spikes made contact with the fishies, they didn’t pierce anyone. They merely bounced off without a scratch.
The gargoyle seemed startled, but before it could get off another attack, an arrow came from the distance and pierced through the gargoyle’s temple, killing it instantly.
When it finally landed on the ground with a thud, the golden barrier surrounding Rael and the fishies vanished.
And only then did Rael turn around, spotting four people, one of whom he immediately recognized.
It was a young woman with black hair and starry blue eyes. Her expression was fierce as though she was looking down at a bug.
However, in her eyes, he could also see a trace of surprise.
And if he had to guess, she was surprised by the fact that he was alive. Official source ıs N0v3l.Fiɾe.net
So what better way to arouse her suspicion than by confronting her?
