Chapter 598: Quick Little Culling, And Faked Death?
As the group of cornballs made their way toward the titans, Rael once again watched everything from the sidelines.
Whether they were planning to use the power of friendship to deal with those titans or not, he wasn’t sure.
Still, he would sit idly by. After all, Aurelius was dead.
Glancing behind at the city, Rael was speechless.
It didn’t look like much damage had been done from the sidelines… but there were many broken buildings and several dozen civilian corpses. It wasn’t what he expected to see.
Was it the gargoyles? No… I’m sure none of them breached inside. Then…?
Infighting.
It wasn’t completely uncommon.
Rael glanced even further ahead, and as he expected, there were people flocking toward one end of the city center with bags of food in hand.
Granted, the city was massive, so he wasn’t sure what the ordeal was on the other end, but since most monsters seemed to be coming from the shore, he didn’t worry about it.
At most, it was a quarrel. At worst… well, he didn’t want to know.
Really, his curiosity wasn’t gnawing at him in the slightest.
Not at all.
But he just so happened to rise from the wall and slowly hop over the rooftops, approaching the center of the city.
It was a complete accident, and before he knew it, he was in the very center, looking down at a complete and total mess.
“This is mine!”
“Share it with the rest of us!”
“C-Come on, don’t push!”
The fishies had set up some sort of barricade around a giant fountain. There were crates of food beside the fountain as well.
However, instead of being just any old fountain, it looked like whenever the fishies jumped inside, they didn’t resurface. Instead, when he looked at it from a certain angle, he realized they were going deeper… way deeper than what should be possible for a fountain.
Are they evacuating? What’s with the food crates, though?
They weren’t taking them down the fountain, but for some reason, they were just collecting those crates. With every passing minute, a select few people were let inside the barricade, and each one had a crate.
Of course, they were let inside the fountain after leaving their crate behind.
“Hmm… It’s sketchy.”
I don’t think anything is wrong with it though. They’re being greedy and prioritizing the rich. It’s like that in reality too. I would know, since…
His expression darkened for a moment, then he shook his head and turned around.
He wasn’t going to concern himself with it.
But right as his feet left the ground, he suddenly spotted a child squeezing through into the barricade and running toward the fountain.
He seemed hopeful.
So hopeful, in fact, that the child didn’t even realize a sword was heading right for his head.
And… as much as Rael hated being a hypocrite, he felt like it was a daily occurrence now.
Therefore, without an ounce of hesitation, he kicked off the rooftop, and right as the sword was about to strike the child, Rael broke the sword in two, and then, with the sharp end, he cut off the fishman’s hand.
-4,294!
“AAAAAAAH!”
As the fishman’s arm landed on the ground, the child froze, looking up at Rael.
However, Rael just gestured for the child to go on, and after a brief moment of hesitation, the child jumped into the fountain, disappearing from sight.
“D-Do you know what you’ve done!?” the fishman yelled.
Shortly after, dozens of other fishmen swarmed Rael, who didn’t even bat an eye at them.
“Do I know what I’ve done? Not a clue,” he replied flatly. “On another note, I don’t know how you fishies operate, but basic morals and etiquette should be coded in those tiny brains of yours, hm?”
The fishman whose arm he had just lopped off seemed particularly lively as he began ordering the nearby soldiers to swarm him further and cut off all escape routes.
Honestly… why did he even try to be understanding of these greedy bastards? Why even try peaceful talks in the first place?
But he gave them the benefit of the doubt.
“If you surrender and let all those people into the fountain, I won’t intervene. However—”
Before he could even get his words out, a blade flew straight for his neck.
A look of disappointment appeared on Rael’s face, which lasted only a fraction of a second as his expression turned cold.
And just as the blade was about to connect, Rael’s fist tore straight through the fishman’s forehead, killing him instantly.
-35,824! Fatal Hit!
And that was only the start.
The soldiers didn’t have time to process before another one of their heads flew into the air, then another…
Rael was mowing them down just as he had done to the monsters. All the while, there was not even a trace of remorse on his face. Latest content publıshed on novel※fire.net
Within just five minutes, a pool of blood was all that was left of the soldiers, and atop it stood Rael.
He wasn’t alone, as the fishman who first drew his sword lay on the ground in front of him, a horrified look on his face.
Seeing that, Rael scoffed.
“Why, if it isn’t the consequences of your own actions.”
“You have no idea what you’ve just done,” the fishman mumbled. “Y-You just killed a Coralian! Our king will avenge us!”
Well, I won’t be here, so I don’t think that’ll be possible, sadly.
Walking up to the fishman, Rael flashed a slight smile, and without saying a word, he crushed the fishman’s head between his hands.
After that, he stretched his back and turned to the fishies behind the barricades.
“You can all go into the fountain now. Might be a little bloody, but I’m sure you’ll manage,” Rael said.
At first, no one dared to move, frightened by all the blood.
However, amidst all the cowards came an old man who limped over the blood and past Rael. He gave Rael a look of approval and, without hesitation, dove into the fountain.
The fishies just stared, but as if the floodgates had been opened, people began to swarm the fountain, stepping over the corpses of the soldiers and ignoring the blood as they dove in one after another.
It felt kind of nice for a change.
However, there was also one thing that had gone through his mind while he was killing all these fishies.
I can survive a stab through my stomach and being impaled by rocks…
Rael jumped onto a nearby rooftop and then glanced at his own body.
It had been on his mind for a while now, but this bit of clarity assured him of one thing…
“There’s no way this guy died of suicide back then.”
