"Please leave," the security guard said, gesturing for Liu Ergou and Lu Shuangyue to go.
"You want me to leave?" Liu Ergou asked, his face devoid of expression. "Are you sure? If I leave and something happens, can a mere security guard like you take responsibility for it?"
The security guard furrowed his brow, about to say something, but before he could speak, the bald man beside them burst into laughter.
"Hahaha, you're a country bumpkin. What could possibly happen if you leave?" he cackled. "What, are you trying to tell me you have a partnership with our boss? That the deal is off if you walk out?"
A look of disdain crossed the bald man's face.
"Let me tell you, Liu Ergou, so what if you've cozied up to the chairman of Baozhi Hall? Others might not know what's going on with them, but I do. Baozhi Hall is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy! To put it bluntly, she's not that high-and-mighty chairman anymore! So get lost while I'm still being polite. Otherwise..."
With a cold sneer at Liu Ergou and Lu Shuangyue, the bald man nodded to the guard. The security guard cooperatively grabbed his walkie-talkie and called for backup. A moment later, more than a dozen guards sprinted out of the building and gathered at the entrance, surrounding Liu Ergou and Lu Shuangyue in the blink of an eye.
Watching this unfold, Liu Ergou sighed softly. That old saying is really true, he thought. It's easy to meet the King of Hell, but his minions are a pain to deal with. This bald man is one of those minions, trying every trick in the book to cause trouble for me. It seems I can't keep a low profile anymore. Although these dozen or so people are less than an appetizer to me, this is a society ruled by law. If I make a move, I'll have a hard time explaining myself, even if I'm in the right.
With this in mind, Liu Ergou spoke up. "I can leave, but can I make a phone call first? After the call, I promise I'll leave quietly. How about it?"
Hearing this, the bald man scoffed. "A phone call? Calling for backup, are you? Let me tell you, in this streaming company, I have the most authority after the president! Do you even know who my sister is?"
Liu Ergou couldn't help but roll his eyes. How the hell would I know who his sister is?
The bald man continued, "I'd love to see what kind of backup a country bumpkin like you can summon! You want to make a call? Be my guest!" With that, he stood there, gazing mockingly at Liu Ergou and Lu Shuangyue.
Liu Ergou didn't waste any time. He took out his phone and dialed Orange Bear's number. The call connected in just a few seconds, and Orange Bear's voice came through.
"What's up, Ergou?" her voice chirped. "Why the sudden call? Did you miss me?"
"I don't have time to joke around," Liu Ergou said flatly. "Lu Shuangyue and I are downstairs in front of your building. You were talking to her about a merchandising deal yesterday, right? We came to discuss it in person, but one of your managers stopped us and told us to get lost. We're about to leave now, so let's just talk about the deal some other time."
With that said, Liu Ergou hung up without a hint of hesitation.
The moment he hung up, the bald man was already cackling. "Hahaha, that's hilarious! Pretending to call our president! Come on, if you're going to put on a show, at least make it believable!" By this point, the man was laughing so hard he was doubled over, barely able to speak. "Hahaha! Do you have any idea who our president is? He's a mega-influencer with tens of millions of followers! How could a country bumpkin like you possibly have his number?"
He then turned to the guards. "Alright, everyone, the show's over. Get them out of here! Having country bumpkins around is nauseating. They don't just disgust you; they go out of their way to make you want to puke. I shouldn't have even let him make that call. So gross."
Shaking his head, the bald man turned and walked back toward the building.
The security guards, in turn, cracked their knuckles and advanced on Liu Ergou and Lu Shuangyue, looking ready for a fight.
"Ergou..." Lu Shuangyue cried out softly, hiding behind him.
Liu Ergou sighed softly as he faced the advancing guards. "Are you sure you want to do this?" he warned. "The consequences will be severe."
The guards glanced at each other, then continued toward Liu Ergou without hesitation. Just as he prepared to act, a woman's shout echoed from inside the building.
"All of you, stop! Who told you you could attack people? I said stop, do you hear me?!"
At her shouts, the guards froze in surprise, then stood obediently still. A moment later, a striking woman rushed out of the building in a panic and immediately laid into them.
"What is wrong with you people? I hired you to provide security, not to assault people whenever you feel like it! This is a streaming company, not some back-alley dive!"
The guards didn't dare say a word under the verbal lashing, merely lowering their heads.
Seeing the striking woman, Liu Ergou raised a hand in greeting. "Orange Bear!"
Hearing her name, the woman startled. She snapped her head around. When she saw it was Liu Ergou, her face lit up with joy. She rushed forward and practically flew into his arms.
"Ergou! You finally came to see me! I've been waiting for so long! Come on, let's go to my office to talk. What are we doing standing out here?"
With that, Orange Bear grabbed Liu Ergou's arm and started pulling him toward the building. However, Liu Ergou wasn't playing along. He flexed his arm, easily shrugging her off.
The move left Orange Bear completely baffled.
"Ergou, what was that for?" she asked, a little hurt. "I said we can talk in my office, right? Let's not do this out here."
Hearing her words, Liu Ergou just shook his head, a helpless look on his face.
