Sunny stared at the tiny, snarling demon god trapped in the SSS-Grade cage, his mind reeling.
The creature's words had started as the rantings of a defeated foe, but they had quickly spiraled into something far more unsettling.
"You seem surprised," Edgar said casually, leaning back against the bars of his cage like a bored king on a throne. "But you don't even know the crux of the story yet."
He paused for effect, his crooked red smile stretching wide. "So, where was I? Ah, yes… The Royal Family. We call ourselves The Nihilum Clan. We are Primordials. Older than time. Older than space. Older than the very concept of 'law' itself."
"Older than the Law of Time?" Sunny scoffed, though a seed of doubt had already been planted. "How can that be? Adam told me that the Void Beasts came later. They weren't even there when he was born."
"That's the fascinating part," Edgar laughed, a sound like an earthquake. "But a creature living inside the aquarium rarely understands the glass."
He gestured with a tiny, clawed hand to the vast emptiness of Sunny's God space. "The First Void Beast. The Great Emperor. The Master of the Void. King Zero. He was the one who created the Laws. He wrote the very laws for Time and Space before your Adam was even a flicker of a thought."
"Then… what about the Old Gods?" Sunny countered, trying to anchor himself to the history he knew. "Weren't they the ones who forged the laws? Adam said..."
"Hahaha! Those fools?!" Edgar cackled, wiping a tear from his eye. "When I arrived here, they were already busy squabbling with the Demon Lords. I loved it! The chaos, the schemes of Deimos… it was delicious. I even gifted that discord loving maniac a little power boost in the end."
Every sentence was a hammer blow to Sunny's reality. He wanted to refute it. He wanted to call Edgar a liar. But his God's Eye, the SSS-Grade talent that could discern truth, was screaming at him.
'True. True. True.'
"You can still say that this part of your reality was shaped by the Old Gods," Edgar conceded, sounding like a patient teacher explaining quantum physics to a toddler.
"Adam was the firstborn of this bubble. But not the Void… the true Void… that existed long before Gods or Demons ever crawled out from this bubble."
He leaned closer to the bars, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Have you never asked yourself, Cosmos… where did the Void come from?"
"From the Mother Void?" Sunny tried, clinging to the term Adam had used.
"Which Mother Void?" Edgar mused. "I suppose, since you are currently living inside Lady Sansa… she would be the one you call 'Mother.'"
"Inside?" Sunny repeated, his composure finally cracking. "What… are you talking about?"
He knew the trope. The protagonist becomes the strongest in his village, only to find out there's a city. He conquers the city, only to find a kingdom.
But this? This was finding out the kingdom was just a bacterial colony inside of a titan.
"Wait," Sunny said, his mind racing. "You said 'we'. Are you from the Royal Family? Are you a Void Beast?"
"Shut up and don't interrupt me!" Edgar screamed, his tiny form vibrating with indignation. "I am telling a story!"
Thwack.
Sunny flicked the cage, sending Edgar tumbling. "You seem to be forgetting your position, little cat. You are my prisoner. Royal blood or not."
"Ouch! Okay, okay!" Edgar rubbed his head, pouting. "So… the members of the Nihilum Clan possess a gift. The gift of Creation, bestowed by the Void Master himself. It is called the Manifestation Affinity."
He looked at Sunny with new, piercing intensity. "Since you possess Manifestation Affinity… tell me, Cosmos. What exactly are you?"
"I was not born with it," Sunny replied slowly, the mystery of his own existence deepening. "It was given to me. A blessing."
"Haha! Well, I hope you find out who gave it to you," Edgar laughed.
"The Nihilum Clan possesses the ability to form life inside their own bodies. They are multiverses unto themselves. And currently, you, Adam, the Demon Lords, and every star you have ever seen… you are all just living inside Lady Sansa, a member of the Nihilum Clan."
Sunny's head throbbed. One member of this clan contained billions of multiverses? How many members were there? How many layers of reality existed?
"This void you see," Edgar waved a hand at the blackness outside the palace, "is the Shallow Void. The Real Void… that is outside. You are living in a bubble, little God. A very small, very fragile bubble."
He grinned, showing his rows of sharp teeth. "So, you should understand the gap now. Release me. I will put in a good word with Lady Sansa. Maybe she will gift you a few SSS-Grade talents as a pet."
"You will be here forever," Sunny said flatly. "Don't think I will release you just because you have powerful relatives"
"So… you are from the Nihilum Clan? Then why are you here? Why were you fighting for Deimos? Why were you disguised as a Legion-Born?"
"You ruined my dramatic reveal!" Edgar complained, shaking his head. "Fine. The Nihilum Clan… they are the strongest because they can harness the power of the realities inside them. They are gods of gods."
His expression turned somber, a flicker of genuine pain crossing his chaotic face.
"But one unfortunate day, from two influential members of the clan, a child was born. He didn't look like a Void Beast. He didn't possess the distinct form of the royal family. And worst of all… he didn't have a void inside him. He was empty. He was a cursed child."
"He was taken to the Void Master, King Zero, for judgment," Edgar whispered. "The void Master looked at him and spoke only two words: 'Kill him.'"
Sunny stayed silent, listening.
"The order was absolute. But parents… parents can love even a monster," Edgar chuckled dryly.
"So, they used their power. They created a new creature inside their own realities, a creature that looked exactly like their child. They killed that instead. And then… they smuggled their real son out. They dropped him into the reality of another Void Beast. Into Lady Sansa."
"And let me guess," Sunny said, looking down at the small, black-and-white creature. "This cursed child… was you?"
Edgar looked up, his red, circular eyes burning with a mix of shame and defiance.
"I was born without a void inside me," he said quietly. "I was born empty. That is why my talent is Absorption. I have to steal my power. I have to eat the power of others just to exist. I can't use magic, I can't use any other talent apart from this absorption"
"I am that cursed child of nothingness"
