When Daniel finally put everything together, he took a deep breath.
This floor was never meant to be cleared by killing monsters. It was not meant to be cleared by enduring longer, or even by becoming stronger. He had finally realized that from the very beginning, there had been no real enemies here at all.
Until now, he had been seeing the monsters as enemies, but he had been wrong the entire time. These monsters were not enemies. They were nothing more than distractions, distractions meant to pull his attention away from the true objective of this floor.
Contrary to what he had believed, this floor was not about combat at all. It was about testing him. It wanted to see whether he had truly understood anything from the previous floors or not.
Daniel slowly raised his head. His eyes locked onto the massive timer floating above the endless space. If his guess was correct, there was only one way to clear this floor and complete its trial.
All this time, he had been waiting for the timer to end, even though an ending is the opposite of eternity. In eternity, an ending has no meaning. In other words, he had to destroy this blasphemy itself.
Without any hesitation, The Heavens' Honor flashed in his hand. The aura of death and lightning twisted together and wrapped around the sword. Daniel did not look at the monsters, nor at the endless waves crawling around him.
He attacked the timer directly.
The first strike was simple, but heavy. The sword collided with the body of the timer with a deafening sound, and deep cracks spread across its surface.
Suddenly, thousands of hours vanished from the timer. The hands shook violently, spinning out of control.
At the same moment, space erupted. The number of monsters exploded from hundreds of millions into billions, then tens of billions.
Like a flood, like a living mass, they appeared from every direction. Space itself lost all meaning, up, down, far, near, all became one. Eternal creatures piled on top of each other, compressing, sticking together.
The entire floor was filled with monsters. As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but monsters.
"That's it. This is right." Daniel did not panic. He laughed instead. His guess had been correct. Instead of destroying the monsters, he had to destroy the thing that violated eternity itself.
And that thing was the timer.
As long as he could destroy the timer, this trial would end.
The second strike was no longer a test. He released all his death and lightning energy at the same time. His sword crashed into the timer like a black thunderbolt.
This time, the sound of breaking was clear.
A massive crack split the timer apart. The hands shattered. Half of the display collapsed, and the remaining time was cut in half.
And the floor's response was even more brutal. The monsters multiplied until space was no longer just "full", it became suffocating.
Daniel could no longer attack. Waves of monsters crashed over him. His body was buried under their endless mass. Light disappeared. Sound disappeared. Even direction itself vanished.
For a moment… it felt as if everything was over. Nothing could be seen anymore. The monsters filled all space, and even Daniel himself was trapped beneath them.
He could not see even a trace of light. It was so suffocating that he could not move his muscles. At the same time, the monsters continued trying to devour and destroy him.
His body was covered in wounds, and he could feel his bones starting to crack.
But in the absolute darkness, the aura of death ignited.
"Get lost."
An explosion of energy erupted. The death aura surged so violently that it felt as if space itself was tearing apart.
A massive wave of death and lightning burst from Daniel's body and pushed billions of monsters away. For a single moment, space was cleared, but only for a moment.
They returned again. No matter how many he killed, it did not matter. Even though the monsters he killed did not return, their numbers were simply too great. So great that killing them was meaningless.
But none of that mattered.
Daniel needed only one moment. One opening to land the final strike.
He gathered every last bit of strength he had left. The aura of death reached its peak. Lightning wrapped around his body. The Heavens' Honor was completely covered in death and destruction.
Daniel looked at the timer and, without wasting a single second or hesitating in the slightest, struck.
The blow pierced straight into the timer and shattered it.
With a sound like the world itself cracking apart, the timer broke. The hands shattered, the display collapsed, and the timer disintegrated.
At that moment, all the monsters froze.
Then, one by one, like shadows hit by light, they vanished. All those billions of monsters disappeared.
Space emptied, and silence returned.
Daniel remained standing, but he could not hold himself any longer. He collapsed onto the ground and began breathing heavily. His mana was completely exhausted.
A staircase slowly emerged from the space ahead. His gaze landed on it, but he did not stand up right away. He needed to wait until his mana fully recovered.
He did not know what the next floor would be like, but it definitely would not be easy. He wanted his body and mind to rest, even if only a little.
"I never thought this Pagoda would be this hard," he muttered to himself. Compared to the Pagoda of Eternity, the Pagoda of Death felt like a playground.
Why was there such a massive difference in difficulty between them? Was there a reason behind it?
Is it because he has become much stronger since then, and this pagoda has increased its difficulty level in response to his power?
He did not think about it too much. After resting for a while, he finally stood up and stepped onto the first stair.
He only hoped that this Pagoda would end as soon as possible.
