The next second, seeing the barrier once again reform and strengthen, everyone let out a sigh of relief. In the end, a player was still a player. He would never be able to break through defenses on his own.
The city's defenders straightened, shaking off their terror. Guild leaders barked orders. NPC mages poured mana into the array.
"Hold steady!"
"It was a fluke!"
"He can't do that twice! No player can!"
Confidence began to return. However, the collective sigh of relief barely lasted a heartbeat. Before they could finish this thought, a maniacal smile appeared on Damon's face. He was not nearly done yet.
Damon hovered in the air like a crimson star, chest rising as he drew in a massive breath. The very atmosphere distorted as mana flooded toward him, streams of power ripping free from the environment and converging into his body like he was a living singularity.
"Huuuu…." He inhaled as more and more mana got pulled towards him, replenishing him at an astounding rate. "I used almost half my mana reserves for the last attack, and now I am already all topped up. This perfect body is freaking amazing!" He grinned, flexing his fingers as power surged into his veins.
Damon shouted like a crazed madman and charged once again at the defensive barrier. Lightning snapped across his wings. Hellfire curled around his arms. Poisonous mist radiated from his skin. Shadows coiled behind him like serpents awaiting command.
"AGAIN!!!"
He launched himself towards the barrier like a meteor, faster than before, harder than before, with more mana than before. Another power-packed crimson lance appeared in his hand, more devastating than the one before. He smashed against the golden barrier without giving it a break.
The golden barrier flared desperately, runes blazing, arcs of defensive lightning sparking like frantic nerves.
"No! No! No! No!" an Arcane Dawn mage cried, watching Damon accelerate.
"He's doing it again?!" a Titanfall berserker shouted.
"That attack should've put him on cooldown!"
"That attack should've killed him!!"
"Why is he smiling like that?!"
Even the NPC archmages trembled as Damon's aura carved through the sky like a blade aimed at the heart of the city.
Damon's blood aura exploded outward, leaving a crimson trail behind him. He didn't stop. He didn't hesitate. He didn't even slow. A hurricane formed in his wake, tearing apart stray spells and scattering siege arrows like dust. Everyone tried to target him and take him down, but it was useless. He was simply too fast.
BOOM!
Another unbelievable attack landed and then another and then yet another. To everyone's shock and dismay, Damon simply continued to smash against the golden barrier again and again with equal fury, equal power, and equal insanity.
It didn't make sense. This was impossible. No player could output that level of destructive force consecutively, without pause, without cooldown, without the system screaming bloody murder.
Yet Damon did. Again. And again. And again.
The golden barrier trembled under the relentless assault. Its shimmering surface rippled like water being hammered by boulders. Each impact sent rings of distortion racing outward, destabilizing the defensive arrays and causing entire rune clusters to flicker violently.
All of a sudden, the man in front of them appeared like a God, and they were all mere ants in front of him, in front of such an overwhelming power.
BOOOOM!!
The barrier spasmed like a living creature in agony.
Players on the walls could barely stay upright. NPC soldiers stumbled, shielding their eyes as each explosion rattled the foundations beneath them.
Down below, the entire Blood Domain watched in utter disbelief.
One player whispered, "Bro… he's just… he's just speed-running war."
Another murmured, "My guild leader used to tell us to conserve mana… and this dude is out here roleplaying a portable nuclear reactor."
Aurora clutched her cheeks, squealing like a fangirl at a boy band concert. "Hubby is so cool, I'm going to die!!"
Kate's eye twitched. "Aurora, calm down."
"No!! I refuse!! Husband is glorious!!"
Meanwhile, Damon kept hitting the barrier relentlessly. A final boom shook the heavens as Damon slammed into it with his shoulder like a god crashing down. And then…
CRAAAAAAAACK!
A thin fracture split across the entire golden barrier, glowing white-hot. Everyone stared at the spreading crack with horror. It did not end there.
Damon charged forward for one more attack, and that was the final nail in the coffin for the golden barrier. The whole thing cracked and shattered right in front of everyone's eyes. Everyone stood frozen. No one even blinked. They did not even understand what happened.
All they saw was a red blur that repeatedly slammed into the barrier with an apocalyptic force, and now the entire goddamn barrier was annihilated, not even a spec of it left.
The eastern shield of Nine Rivers City, reinforced by three guilds, hundreds of NPCs, and every defensive array available, fell apart in a rain of golden shards.
Damon hovered there, chest rising and falling, his grin a bloody crescent moon. He really thought he would be more exhausted from expending and inhaling so much mana and repeatedly throwing powerful attacks back to back.
But his new body and his improved mental strength were helping him take it all quite beautifully.
Damon rolled his shoulders. "Warm up's done." His gaze then fell on the line of players and NPCs stationed on the city walls, in charge of the first line of attack and defense.
Every ballista operator, every mage, every commander, every shield-bearer froze under his gaze. They stared back at him like prey that had just realized the forest wasn't theirs.
Damon lifted his hand. Every defender flinched. Some ducked. Some raised their shields. Some nearly fell backward off the wall. "You should've run when you had the chance." His fingers closed, and mana surged.
The sky turned crimson. A rain of venomous blood erupted from the heavens. Thick scarlet droplets streaked downwards in thousands, each one shimmering with a toxic, pulsating glow. Suddenly, there was poison everywhere.
