Chapter 9: Mayin City

"What's Lord's response?"

Upon hearing Julia's inquiry, Samos snapped out of his dilemma, recalling the purpose of his visit.

"The Lord said she's willing to allow humans into Mayin City, but her conditions are the same as those of Gass City's Lord. Humans cannot trade directly with city residents; they must trade with the Lord's Mansion, which will then sell the goods to the city residents."

Upon hearing this, Julia inwardly relaxed and looked towards Yan Luo.

Yan Luo took a bite of grilled meat and said, "We accept."

Since the conditions are the same as in Gass City, he had no objections.

"Has everyone eaten well?" Yan Luo asked the three truck drivers.

The truck drivers all nodded. They had already eaten their fill.

The magic power-infused meat provided a lot of energy, so they were full after just a few pieces.

Yan Luo, on the other hand, seemed to have an endless appetite, continuously grilling and eating meat without stopping.

"That's good." Yan Luo took a big bite from the skewer, his mouth bulging as he chewed vigorously before swallowing down the meat.

Despite eating so much grilled meat, Yan Luo's stomach did not show any change.

With half a cow left, Yan Luo kicked it into the water, letting it drift downstream, and then returned to the truck's cab.

Samos pushed a small boat into the river, rowing it to the island in the stream.

Not far from the shore, the small boat disappeared from Yan Luo and the others' sight.

After waiting for over ten minutes, accompanied by a slight tremor, a wide stone bridge emerged from the water.

Seeing the stone bridge, the lead truck driver hesitated, "Can this bridge hold?"

Although with the help of the Space Box, the weight of the trucks wasn't fifty or sixty tons, it was still at least twenty tons.

The truck driver was afraid that midway while crossing, the bridge might suddenly collapse if the truck was driven onto it, which would be a huge problem for them.

The three drivers, all retired Hunters, could escape from the truck before it sank, but if the truck fell into the water, the cargo would be lost, which was the main concern of the lead truck driver.

"Don't worry! Drive boldly!" Julia encouraged the lead truck driver.

The driver hesitated for a moment, realizing he had no choice but to proceed, let out a sigh, and carefully drove the truck onto the stone bridge.

Not only did the first truck's driver have these thoughts, but the other two truck drivers felt the same.

If their trucks were halfway across when the bridge collapsed, all the goods would be ruined—though not entirely since they were stored in the Space Box. Rescuing them one by one from the water afterward would take considerable time.

With trepidation, the three truck drivers slowed down the trucks to a crawl, cautiously inching towards the island as if they were turtles.

Despite being trucks, even at a slow pace, they couldn't go too slow.

A minute later, the lead truck passed through the boundary, and the driver saw Mayin City in its entirety, and couldn't help but open his mouth.

"...Wow."

The city walls of Mayin City rose hexagonally from the riverbank, supported by several stone pillars extending from the river. At the water's surface where each pillar submerged was a ring-shaped water bastion, with fishing nets stretched between these bastions, converting the area beneath the walls into fish farms.

The aquatic life in the farms was likely the main food source for Mayin City's residents.

Located at the confluence of three rivers, threats to Mayin City primarily came from these rivers.

The city's soldiers had to prevent river demons from invading the farms, lest the city's food supply be diminished.

Like those in Gass City, the soldiers of the water bastion followed a rotational duty system, serving as both city guards and fish farmers.

Unlike the predominantly wooden structures in Gass City, the buildings in Mayin City were mostly made of stone. After entering the city through a wide gate, Yan Luo and the others saw mostly white buildings on both sides of the street.

However, just like the elves in Gass City, the elves in Mayin City loved to showcase their individuality. With fewer resources at their disposal, they focused on tattoos and body paint instead of houses and clothing to express themselves.

Yan Luo and the others noticed that the elves of Mayin City mostly wore decorations made of gemstones, bones, and a few precious metals, and their fashion was more liberal, with about fifty percent of their skin exposed.

Julia had visited Mayin City a few times, guiding Yan Luo and the others towards the direction of the Lord's Mansion with the trucks.

The elves of Mayin City had never interacted with humans and human products, so they cast curious glances at the three trucks.

The trucks came to a halt in front of the Lord's Mansion, and Yan Luo jumped out of the cab first.

"So they're humans..."

"Their ears are round!"

"Is he wearing glasses? They look different from ours."

"Well, it's understandable since they're humans. It's been a long time since we've interacted."

The elves' conversations were all captured and translated by a plugin, displayed before Yan Luo.

Matching the audible voices with text, Yan Luo quickly learned the elves' language.

The Lord of Mayin City stood in front of the Lord's Mansion. The scantily clad, voluptuous female elf had healthy bronze skin, exuding a beauty of vitality.

Julia jumped down from the cab, bowing before the towering elf of 1.97 meters, "Thank you for your accommodation, my lord."

The Lord of Mayin City affectionately patted Julia's head and smiled, "I trust that old Kevin. Since he was willing to write a recommendation letter, allowing human goods into Mayin City is no problem."

Then, the Lord of Mayin City turned towards Yan Luo, who stood like a spear in the ground, poised, "Are you the leader of these humans, 'Yan Luo'?"

"I am the leader, Yan Luo."

Yan Luo clasped his hands in a bow, "Greetings to the Lord of Mayin City."

The Lord of Mayin City's eyes glinted with an unusual light.

Yan Luo's language, albeit accented, was quite presentable and at least fluent enough not to stutter.

Giving Yan Luo a deep look, the Lord of Mayin City smiled, "I've reviewed your list of goods. Mayin City's needs are simple. Besides some digital products, we are mostly in need of spices and your 'quick construction materials' as noted."

Quick construction materials, the last great invention from ten years ago, were lost to time.

These materials, named 'Xi Yang', could be mixed with regular cement, allowing it to maintain its strength while rapidly molding.

Even when poured underwater, the shape would not deform.

Sadly, after the ten-year loss, progress in materials science stopped altogether. Over the years, humans could only make minor adjustments to Xi Yang, sacrificing some strengths to address weaknesses.

Just by mixing 1% of Xi Yang into a cubic meter of cement, its properties would change.

However, the quick construction material Xi Yang does have usage requirements. Its issue is the fast molding speed, requiring rapid pouring; otherwise, the cement would solidify.

Only by maintaining the cement temperature at 40°C does the solidification speed slow.

Yan Luo did not trade directly with the Lord of Mayin City but informed her of the shortcomings of Xi Yang.

"You're... quite interesting."

After listening to Yan Luo's description, the Lord of Mayin City did not express personal opinions on Xi Yang but looked at Yan Luo with growing interest.

Julia had already come to Yan Luo's side, noticing the Lord of Mayin City's gaze, and whispered a reminder to Yan Luo: "This lord is the matriarch of a prominent family. She loves having children with smart men and heroes to expand her lineage. While ordinary elves may have only five to six children in a lifetime, she's had over twenty."

As soon as Julia finished speaking, the Lord of Mayin City extended her hand towards Yan Luo, smiling invitingly, "Come bear my child!"

"I refuse."

In the next moment, Yan Luo immediately declined the Lord's invitation, with hardly any hesitation.
