Reborn as the Failed Lord with my Resource Gathering System.

Chapter 141: Who is the king?

Dorian and the rest made their way into the mansion, led by the black-haired maid, who was practically walking side-by-side with Dorian.

Maria and Seraphina were walking at the back, and Ciel further back where the other maids were present.

So far, there had not been any guards or males around.

It seemed as though elf maids had occupied this entire part of the mansion.

Still, that wasn't the girls' problem at the moment.

"Maria…" Seraphina whispered with a small frown on her face.

"Yes, I know," Maria replied, though she was still as calm as ever.

"You are seeing this too, right? Why the hell is Darling speaking to that maid so much? She doesn't even seem like she is interested in a conversation."

The jealousy in Seraphina's words was so exposed that Maria couldn't help but also take a closer look at the two of them.

After evaluating, she replied,

"If she wasn't interested, she wouldn't be replying to him. She is hiding something or trying to put up a front. In any case, I guess Lord Dorian is trying to get some information out of her."

Seraphina narrowed her gaze and directed it at Maria.

"How sure are you? Aren't you jumping to conclusions there?"

"I should be telling you that." Maria then pointed at Dorian slightly.

"Besides, it's not hard to tell what Lord Dorian is doing. You can feel it too; you are just too jealous to notice it."

"I am not jealous! I am just worried. Geez, fine then, I guess it doesn't bother you. Might as well just let him kiss every girl in this mansion while you're at it."

Seraphina folded her arms and looked to the side. Even then, she still found herself looking back at Dorian.

Maria, of course, was just as jealous as Seraphina, if not more.

Watching as Dorian spoke to the maid was somewhat uncomfortable.

It was as though they had a deep connection, despite it being the first time they were meeting.

And since Maria had a similar behavior when she first met Dorian, she quickly understood a bit of what the elf was thinking.

At the same time, she knew Dorian meant nothing by it, so there was no need for her to express her jealousy as Seraphina did.

Ciel, on the other hand, with Flare on her shoulder, was just trying to make sure her master was not walking into some kind of trap, since the further she walked, the more she could sense another dragon, other than Celes, nearby.

Meanwhile, at the very front.

"Hey. Hey. Hey, oi, hey hey, hey, come on, oiiii!"

The dark-haired elf sighed exasperatedly, then used her side-eye to look at Dorian. "What could you want from me, Lord Dorian?"

"Look at you, finally noticing me. I guess we are warming up to each other." He leaned closer. "I never got your name, right? What is your name?"

"..."

"..."

"S-Sofia," the elf finally spoke after thinking for a while.

"Sofia, that is such a pretty name for a pretty elf, don't you agree?"

"..."

'Sofia, huh? You damn liar,' Dorian cursed in his mind before looking to the side where his Analysis system was glowing.

[Name: Revina Lumberg | Race: High Elf | Role: King of Lumberg | Rank: Grand Master | Class: Summoner]

[Current Mood: Calm and collected, annoyed, conflicted.]

'This woman is the King of Lumberg. I knew this the first time she came to the Aurelian barony, but to think she would still keep up this act even now. Why the fuck is she pretending to be an elf maid in the first place?'

Dorian stood up straight, stylishly looking at her.

'Actually, the biggest question here is: the King of Lumberg is a woman, and an elf. That is definitely not something I expected in the least.

The first time, the system didn't give me this much information, so I wasn't certain, but it's true. She really is the ruler of this kingdom.

If that's the case, then who the fuck am I going to meet right now? An imposter king? Tsk, such a cliche move. I just have to play along and get her on my good side, and this should all end well for me. Hehe, I can already smell the money-'

Suddenly, from above the stairs they were walking past, a maid tripped, dropping a bowl of water right over them.

Dorian quickly sensed this and took it as an opportunity.

"Watch out!" he yelled with the biggest grin on his face.

He grabbed Sofia by the arm and pulled her close to him, her body pressing against his, before covering her head with his arm, completely coating her.

As the bowl landed on the ground, so did the water, which instantly splashed Dorian, wetting him completely.

In that short moment, as caught by Seraphina and Maria, it seemed as though it lasted for years.

Seraphina's face was etched with agitation, while Maria was quick to dash forward, seeming as though she was heading there to fight.

For a brief second, Sofia's face turned red before she quickly pushed Dorian back and took several steps back of her own until her back was resting on the wall.

She stared at Dorian for a while, her chest heaving up and down, her cheeks red, though she had a full-on frown on her face.

"Lord Dorian, are you alright?" Maria had already arrived in front of Dorian, trying to find something to dry his body with after making sure he wasn't hurt.

"Relax, I am fine," Dorian chuckled.

Seraphina remained in a single spot, the memories of Dorian hugging the elf still playing in her head.

Her nightmare was coming to pass; every woman was going to sleep with Dorian in this castle.

The maid who had accidentally dumped the water on them suddenly spoke from the stairs.

"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to." Her head was lowered, and she was visibly trembling.

Revina (still playing the role of Sofia) quickly looked at the maid, a sharp glint in her eyes, before turning back to Dorian.

"Lord Dorian, are you indeed unharmed?" Her voice, though still composed, carried a hint of urgency.

Dorian, still dripping wet, waved a dismissive hand.

"Completely fine, Sofia. Just a little bath, that's all." He winked, completely ignoring the murderous glares from Seraphina and Maria.

Maria, fuming internally, pulled out a small, clean handkerchief from her pocket and began dabbing at Dorian's wet clothes.

"You shouldn't joke about such things, Lord Dorian. It was a dangerous fall."

Seraphina, finally snapping out of her daze, stomped forward. "Dangerous? You think that was accidental?" She pointed a finger at the maid on the stairs.

"That was clearly an attempt to..." Her words trailed off as she struggled to find the right accusation, her mind still clouded by jealousy.

Ciel, who had been quietly observing, stepped forward slightly, her senses on high alert.

The maid on the stairs, despite her trembling, seemed a little too calm beneath the surface.

And the 'accident' itself felt a bit too well-timed.

Revina, meanwhile, had subtly moved closer to Dorian again, her eyes fixed on the maid on the stairs.

"Perhaps it was indeed an accident," she said, her voice smooth and even. "However, one cannot be too careful in a place like this."

Dorian, enjoying the drama, decided to play along. "Indeed, Sofia. Good thing I was here to protect you, isn't it?" He gave her a charming smile, trying to gauge her reaction.

Revina's cheeks colored slightly again, but she quickly composed herself. "I... I appreciate your swift action, Lord Dorian."

She avoided his gaze for a moment, then looked directly at the maid on the stairs. "Please refrain from making such mistakes again." Her voice was soft, yet it carried an undeniable authority.

"Y-yes, my lady," the maid bowed her head in shame.

I can tell many of you have not been happy about my lack of bonus chapters. I believe I am owing 2 right now, but I beg you to be patient. I actually resumed school a few weeks back, and it has been hell juggling this and school at the same time.

With time, I will definitely balance it, so don't lose faith in me yet. On the plus side, I know many of them are still supporting, and I truly appreciate it; it it keeps me motivated to keep dropping chaters daily..
