It basically took him two steps to cross one section of stairs, which doubled his speed at least, and soon he reached the end of the stairwell.
When he opened the fire door and stepped out, he found himself in a massive circular hall, shrouded in darkness, so silent that one could hear a pin drop.
At the other end of the hall stood an elderly man with a cane, motionless.
Sun Yan used his Celestial Eye to observe but found nothing amiss about this person; he was simply an ordinary human through and through.
"Sir, if I'm not mistaken, judging by your Eastern appearance, you should have no connection with the Evil God Council. Why did you intrude into this place? Frankly, we have no intention of becoming your enemy," said Old Zorn, looking in Sun Yan's direction.
"I'm here to find something."
"Something? I don't recall my people having any dealings with you before this. If it's because of Hutton, I apologize. It wasn't his intention to target you."
"The Ruyi Golden Cudgel, an iron staff. Have you seen it?"
Seeing that the other's attitude was quite decent and unlike Jamie's people, who were aggressive from the start, Sun Yan softened his tone and patiently explained.
If he could peacefully retrieve the Ruyi Golden Cudgel and return it to the Graveyard, he had no interest in fighting strangers to death, as that would just be a waste of time.
"How do you know that thing is here?"
Old Zorn shook his head. "Sir, I must say, your information is quite keen. It couldn't have been Punk who told you, could it? That damned fellow."
In Old Zorn's view, among his subordinates, he believed only they knew about the whereabouts of the Ruyi Golden Cudgel.
And knowing his methods, they wouldn't dare betray him. The only variable, then, was with Punk, the Treasure Hunter.
"I just want to find my thing. If you're willing to return it to me, I can leave immediately."
"Too late, sir. Since that's the case, I can only act to keep you here."
Old Zorn gently tapped his cane on the ground, and the eye-shaped brooch on his chest suddenly glowed with a strange light.
Soon, the entire circular hall lit up with dazzling white light.
On the ceiling of the hall was a single piece Western-style oil painting relief. At this moment, eyes started to grow from each figure in the relief, like clusters of grapes growing out and drooping from their eye sockets.
Sun Yan frowned. This man's methods bore some similarity to Jamie's, seemingly possessing some bizarre abilities of the Ancient Gods.
Merely seeing this would be enough to instill fear and reduce the rationality of ordinary people.
But to Sun Yan, these methods had absolutely no effect. He had seen so many terrifying things that there was nothing more to see.
His resistance was significantly heightened; mere peculiarities like these eye phenomena couldn't scare him.
"Sir, sweet dreams," Old Zorn said very gentlemanly.
The next second, his face split open, the skin falling off, revealing a massive single eye that shot a faint light toward Sun Yan.
At that moment, the third eye at Sun Yan's forehead also retaliated, glaring back defiantly.
A golden light shot out, piercing through Old Zorn's light and stabbing directly into his single eye.
"Ah!"
Old Zorn let out a scream and immediately fell into a pool of blood, his four limbs convulsing before becoming completely still.
"Is that it?" Sun Yan sneered, thinking that this old man making an appearance alone in such a place would be a major boss, only to find he was easily defeated.
Sun Yan quickly searched around for a way to ascend further, finally discovering that only one elevator could take him directly to the top floor.
Now, in order to retrieve the Ruyi Golden Cudgel, he had no choice but to go up.
...
Ding!
Celestial Platform.
Sun Yan cautiously stepped out of the elevator, having already changed his appearance using the Assistance Divine Power of the Great Saint.
Kettel Building is considered a top-tier skyscraper in San Francisco. Someone who could plot schemes here must come from a prominent background and have significant backing.
Sun Yan, looking both real and fake, changed his face to prevent others from discovering his true identity.
As soon as he exited the elevator, Sun Yan immediately noticed the particularly eye-catching altar on the Celestial Platform.
Surrounding the altar were numerous security personnel armed with guns, each dressed in a black tactical suit perfectly blending with the night.
The instant Sun Yan appeared, numerous infrared laser dots were trained on his chest.
If Sun Yan made even the slightest aggressive move, he'd face an unknown number of hidden snipers ready to take his life.
The security measures here were taken to the extreme.
Beneath the altar, a blond youth in a black coat turned around, smiling kindly at Sun Yan, "It's interesting an outsider could get here. It seems none of my subordinates could stop you, they're quite a useless bunch."
"I have no intention of opposing you; I'm just here to take something. If you give me what I want, I'll leave immediately," Sun Yan said calmly.
Instantly, the Mo Lihai Dharma appeared behind him, protecting Sun Yan.
Although with the help of True Monarch Erlang, he had achieved preliminary immortality, barely a demigod, there was still uncertainty about whether this body could dodge bullets.
