The dropouts family was the second wealthiest in the village but because their son had attracted the displeasure of a noble houses heiress, he was forced to drop out due to fear.
" Who could it be at this ungodly hour." Came a grumpy voice from behind a door, the door creaked open, a young man with dark eyes and a brawny body was on the other side. His eyes were momentarily taken aback to see the beautiful woman who's skin looked radiant under the moon's luminescent glow yet at the same time, he felt some hints of familiarity from her.
" Sorry to bother you this late at night but–"
" Wait a moment, aren't you that enforcers wife?"
" Y-Yes I am, I just wanted to ask if–"
SLAM!
Melinda was cut off when the door slammed shut on her face without any ounce of sympathy.
" Who was it knocking on the door?" She heard an old woman's voice coming from within the house.
" It's nothing mother, Just that evil enforcers wife."
" What could she be doing out and about, this late at night?" The old woman's voice turned agitated.
" Who knows, probably looking for another group of children for her husband to kill." said the young man.
Melinda who was outside felt the chilling night wind brush against her skin. She felt as if countless pins we're sticking into her heart at the moment but she could only bite her lower lips while enduring their continuous insults, in the end, she left.
The young man had just headed up the stairs when he suddenly stopped in his tracks. " Wait..what's this..." The young man stared at his body.
" Greater sight..."
The young man casted a magical spell on himself and his vision heightened just like Melinda's had before. What he saw around him were dark wisps floating in the air.
" Dark magic? No... This is something far worse." The young man trembled in fear, he had come across dark magic users back when he was still enrolled at an academy but he had never encountered dark magic of this caliber. It wasn't that the dark magic around him was much but that it seemed to be dark magic of an extremely pure degree.
" Where the hell did this come from .." The young man wondered before his mind suddenly clicked, he hurriedly rushed down stairs before opening the door, but Melinda was already gone.
" It's even more concentrated here!" The young man almost shouted in fear. Staring at the spot Melinda was previously standing on.
His eyes glanced around before spotting Melinda some distance away, walking towards another home, he unconsciously gulped in fear seeing even more Dark wisps on her. Because of his current state, Su Ping couldn't completely seal off all the mana that leaked out of his injuries. And due to that, Melinda was now coated in a huge amount of it.
" Back in the academy, one of the instructors mentioned something about this before." said the young man to himself.
" Dark magic of this purity can never be from a human or a dark type beast but from a–"
" Demon..." He stuttered yet when he focused closer on Melinda, he was confused when he noticed a different magic power hidden below. He became confused.
" She's not a demon...then could it be she's hiding one?" The young man continued to watch her figure walk farther away, wondering why she would be having dealings with a demon yet his gaze couldn't help but lower from her back, down to her hips that shock with each step she took, lowering even more to her perky rear.
" Who cares if she's hiding her dealings with a demon... This is perfect for me." The young man chuckled stupidly to himself, thinking how good it would be if he could get her beneath him by blackmailing her with her little secret. He licked his lips while watching with a growing lecherous gaze but he eventually felt sleepy and decided to go back to bed.
" I shouldn't be too impatient, soon I'll have her all to myself." He chuckled before closing the door behind him.
Melinda continued to go from home to home yet nothing changed, everyone treated her with hostility. Some even yelled at her, others scolded. A few even tried hurling things at her.
" Just who do you think you are!"
" After what your husband did, you still dare to go around this village asking for help?!" An angry man ruthlessly kicked Melinda off his doorstep, sending her falling onto the cold dirty floor. Melinda endured the pain before reaching towards her clothed wooden box, clutching it to her chest while staring at the man who continued to hurl verbal abuses at her.
A few days after her husband had returned to the Abyss, some enforcer knights came to the village in search of him, they wanted to know how the mission went, at the time, some villagers were around.
Melinda had naturally told them what her husband told her to say, that he had failed the mission and decided to retire.
When they learned he failed and chose to retire, the enforcer knights thought he was trying to appease the noble house behind the mission and didn't inquire further, They decided to return but not before Melinda and the villagers learned of what the mission he had been on was.
Ever since then, the villagers began treating her and her children coldly. She didn't know whether it was because they deeply hated the nobles or because they were already filled with pent up frustrations towards her husband but ever since then, the once, warm and accommodating village seemed to turn it's back against her and her children.
She had to stop Mel and Sal from going out to play because the other children began bullying them more often than naught, whenever she brought up the matter to the bully's parents, they would even turn on her, scold and rebuke her, even hurling unfounded insult
s her way, without caring whether their own children had started it first.
