Sadly, Rugard was disappointed because Melinda showed no such interests in anything he said, even when they reached the supposed shop which had a sign outside that said pawn shop.
" This is the place, come, follow me." Rugard led her inside where they met the store owner who sat behind a counter with a showcase displaying all sorts of items.
" Hehehe welcome dear customers. Is there anything in my humble shop that peaks your interest." The shop owner gestured towards several items on display.
" We have lots of items such as precious jewelry from far away nations. This here was brought back by some travelers who visited the Dark forest–"
BAM!
"..?!!"
Rugard slammed his fist on the counter, startling the shop owner.
" We aren't here for your gimmicks, so cut the crap already." Rugard glared coldly at the old man, his tall figure and magical aura, causing the old man to whimper in fear.
" My friend here wants to pawn off some stuff of her's for mana stone's. You better not try anything dumb you here." Rugard said in a chilling tone that made the shop owner perspire before he turned towards Melinda with a sunny smile, gesturing for her to come forward.
Melinda was surprised by the sudden turn of events, especially Rugards actions. His magical aura as well, left her surprised because she faintly felt as if it was far stronger than her husband before he left for Lucinda's capture, moreover she had a feeling that the level of aura Rugard had shown, was somewhat constrained, as if he had only released a faint wisp to scare the shop owner.
Nevertheless, Melinda nodded with a thankful expression at Rugard before approaching the counter.
" How many mana stones do you think i can exchange for all of this." Melinda unwrapped and opened her savings chest.
The store owner blinked momentarily before closely examining the contents of the wooden chest. He first calculated the coins in her chest before listing the price of the few jewelry inside.
" I'm afraid all this can only be exchanged for with 10 mid grade mana stones." The shop owner forced an apologetic smile.
" That's... I'll take it–" Melinda felt bitter, recalling how she had wanted to exchange her possessions for some of Miss Finley's mana stones, she didn't know that mana stones were so costly."
" Wait a minute." Rugard suddenly held back her hand before glaring at the shop owner. " Let me pay for it." Rugard reached into his pocket to get something but Melinda hurriedly retracted her hand from his.
" Please don't do that, ten mid grade mana stones are more than enough. You've already helped me so much, I'd rather not impose on you any more than I have to."
" It's ok, it's just ten mid grade mana stones, I'm sure I can get it back by tomorrow." Rugard tried persuading Melinda yet she remained firm on her decision.
He knew she must've been really desperate to get those mana stones after seeing the contents of her chest, just with one glance, he could already discern several old coins and a few items that looked like they had been collecting dust for awhile, away from sunlight.
" Fine I won't force you." Rugard said with a sigh before turning towards the shop owner." You said these were worth ten grade mana stones right."
" Y-Yes sir." The shop owner replied in a shaky voice but Rugard didn't focus on him, instead, he turned his gaze back to Melinda.
" Why don't you sell those items to me. They look pretty old and I happen to know a friend of mine who's into antiques." Rugard said before pulling out a small ring from his pocket.
The shop owners pupils dilated slightly at the sight of the ring but he quickly retained his composure as if he wasn't surprised.
He wasn't smart but he could already tell that the scary customer in his shop must be trying to woe the lady Infront of him.
Rather than bringing himself unnecessary trouble, he decided to keep quiet, even though he had lost his supposed customer.
" I'm sorry but I can't accept that, I'm already married."
"...." Rugard stiffened as if a stray arrow had pierced his heart but he let out a deep breath to calm himself. " It's not what you think, this a spatial ring that contains some mana stones. If your willing to sell me everything, including your wooden chest here, it's yours." Rugard forced a smile, tossing her the spatial ring without waiting for reply.
Melinda caught the ring out of reflex, she stared at it for awhile before revealing a look of helplessness. Seeing this Rugard chuckled, he found her expression rather cute and attractive.
" Just infuse your mana into it and you'll be able to view it's contents." Rugard guided her through it
Melinda was skeptical at first but did as she was told, when she saw the contents of the ring, she gasped in shock. Inside the ring was 500 mid grade mana stones.
One hundred low grade mana stones added together would have the same effect as a mid grade mana stone, while a hundred mid grade mana stones would have the same effect as one high grade mana stone which meant that she technically had 50,000 low grade mana stones or even 5 high grade mana stones.
" This is beyond too much, I'm sorry but I can't accept this. My things couldn't be worth this amount." Melinda tried refusing but Rugard had already snatched her chest before she realized it.
" Don't think too much about it. Like my parents once told me, One man's trash is another man's treasure." Rugard patted her on the head before making his way out the door.
Melinda was at a loss, not only had she received so many mana stones but he had even left her with such a precious item.
She felt that taking the item as well would be too mu
ch, she ran out of the store to return it but by then, Rugard was long gone.
