"... I guess I'll just have to keep it safe till I see him again." Melinda mumbled while staring at the ring in her hand. She placed it in her bossom before heading back towards the inn.
" Looks like she's finally leaving." Said a middle-aged, pale skinned man who was casually browsing through the fruits of a fruit vendor, some distance away.
" When you told me you sensed a strange power off her, I thought you were joking but, it's actually the real thing." The man chuckled before taking a bite out of an apple, while his associate, Rugard, who was lay'd back on the stall, had his brows furrowed while watching Melinda's receding figure moving farther and farther away.
In his vision, Melinda was covered in a faint dark magical power that looked unsettling yet beneath it was another magical power that was weaker in comparison.
Rugards associate, Jack, tossed a coin at the frightened fruit vendor before the both of them walked away.
" You sure she didn't just make a contract with a demon." Rugard inquired, his expression skeptical while the both of them discretely followed after Melinda.
" We can't be sure, After all, it's not every day you see a beautiful woman tainted with this much Dark magical power." Jack chuckled with amusement before taking another bite of his apple, then tossing it's core aside.
" She doesn't look like the dark summoner type to me. And I'm sure after listening to what you've said about her, She doesn't seem like the bounty hunter type that was after you from the start yet, we can't be completely sure either."
" Following her back to wherever she came from should be our priority, if she really is having dealings with a powerful demon. She's gonna be in a lot of trouble... Dark magic might be accepted in the Lion heart Kingdom but dealings with unbound demons from the Abyss is ground's for execution." Jack said while letting out a carefree yawn.
" But we aren't enforcers..." Rugard stared at him with confusion and skepticism in his eyes.
" True, but that doesn't mean we still can't profit from this. Demon parts sell for high prices on the dark market, if we can catch it alive, that's even more money."
" We can sell it off and gather enough money to lay low for awhile, those enforcer knights have really become a nuisance ever since we killed that noble bastard, if I had known better, I would've killed that bitch wife of his and their daughter, it's thanks to them that we've been on the run for so long." Jacks body unconsciously began to release some magical power because of his frustrations.
" Get a grip, are you trying to blow our cover. What do you think will happen if someone senses your magic power." Rugard quickly smacked him on the head to return him to his sense's. Only after that did Jack calm down, fortunately, their target hadn't gone far so they continued their pursuit.
" Looks like she's heading into that inn down the street for some rest." Jack and Rugard who were standing Infront of another fruit stall, watched as Melinda stepped into the inn she had left her cart at.
" No," Rugard shock his head in disagreement, " While I was with her, she seemed in rush, she might just be there to grab something to eat." Rugard explained.
" Alright, that should give us plenty of time." Jack bit a freshly bought apple before tossing a copper coin at the female fruit vendor.
" Thank you for your purchase." The little girl smiled before turning towards her mother to show of the coin, her mother on the other hand, had a wary look while staring at the two men at her stall.
Noticing the woman's obvious apprehension, the both of them decided to leave, walking down the street in the opposite direction of the inn.
" She said she's from out of town so she must've either arrived in her own cart or someone else's. To avoid being noticed let's hire one that's inconspicuous and trail her." Jack said.
" Alright." Rugard agreed before the both of them left to get ready.
Melinda finished her meal before leaving the inn and getting on her cart before heading back towards the village.
" She's on the move." Jack gestured for Rugard to follow him with his gaze. The both of them hired a cart driver who they payed to follow after her horse cart from a distance.
Like when she arrived at the town, the journey back to the village took Melinda an equal amount of time yet she was happier now than when she felt worried during her departure.
Melinda unconsciously brought out the spatial ring, staring at it with a warm smile before putting it back.
" Hmm? Is that smoke..." Melinda's expression turned odd staring at the plume of smoke rising into the sky from the far distance. She suddenly felt that something was wrong when she realized the large mass of smoke was coming from the same direction the village was in.
" Hurry!" Melinda became agitated and used her reigns to urge her horse faster. The carts speed sped up several times but that did nothing to ease the growing worry in Melinda's heart.
" She's speeding up!" Rugards eyes squinted sharply.
" Well what are you waiting for, hurry on after her, we can't lose her!" Jack turned anxious and prompted the cart driver to speed up his pace, which he did.
Arriving at the village, Melinda was forced to slow down because of the smock that filled the air, obstructing her vision.
She glanced around the village yet she couldn't spot anyone as she sped down the village street's which only made her more and more worried.
" Burn them!"
" Burn down the entire house!"
" You filthy demon spawns! Get out of the way or we'll burn you to."
" No no no no no." Melinda's heart rate acc
elerated when she heard the sounds of something akin to a mob in the distance.
