Pick Up a Killer as Girlfriend

Chapter 267: Completely at a Loss

"I don't know, the person was found by the police. When we came with Li Kuo, Li Kuo was very emotional, so we all stayed with him, afraid he might do something foolish. As for the rest, we haven't figured it out yet," Xiaolei replied slowly.

The police? Wasn't Lin Miaoke here just now?

Saying so, Xiaofan once again dialed Lin Miaoke's number. Lin Miaoke, upon receiving the call, hurried over to meet Xiaofan and the others.

"What's going on? Why is there another dead person at your place? And there was a bomb explosion?" With this opening line, Lin Miaoke started complaining.

Turns out, she just went to her colleagues to handle the two corpses at Xiaofan's house. It seems like another report and record need to be duly written.

"I'm asking you what you're doing? What are you up to? How did it end up like this?" Xiaofan, having nowhere to vent his frustration, started yelling at whoever he could.

"What do you mean? When we received the report and rushed over, things were already like this. If it weren't for the ambulance arriving in time, who knows, perhaps Li Kuo's mother wouldn't have been saved," Lin Miaoke had intended to question Xiaofan but ended up being yelled back at instead.

Meanwhile, Li San and the others, upon hearing about another assassin attack and the use of a bomb, were somewhat shocked. However, seeing Xiaofan unharmed, they realized the assassin must have been dealt with by him.

"Hey, what's all the shouting about? Don't disturb the patients. This is the ICU, please move aside," a head nurse walked out and reprimanded the two after hearing the commotion.

It was only then that the two realized their earlier impoliteness. Xiaofan managed to control his emotions, knowing that staying calm was essential now.

Lin Miaoke slightly held in her stomach, puffed out her chest, and exhaled heavily.

Both of them sat down on chairs nearby.

"The forensic examination showed that they fell from the sixth floor. There are marks on their wrists and ankles from being tied with ropes, and we found the broken ropes on the sixth floor," Lin Miaoke said calmly after sitting down.

"What about the location?"

"West of the city, Plum Bossom Apartment. The apartment has been around for years, we checked the owner, emigrated thirteen years ago, the property has been empty since then, never sold," Lin Miaoke continued.

"Was there any surveillance capturing suspicious people nearby?"

"No way to verify."

"Take me to the scene."

"Now?"

"Right now, Li San, you guys stay here with Li Kuo, I'm heading out for a bit," Xiaofan said, preparing to check out the crime scene with Lin Miaoke.

Li San and the others nodded. Just then, the door to the ward suddenly swung open, and a haggard-looking Li Kuo walked out, causing Xiaofan to pause, looking at him concernedly.

"Li Kuo..."

"Xiaofan, lend me some money," Li Kuo said slowly.

Hospitalization costs money, and now that Li Kuo's home is sealed and funds frozen, he's left with no money at all.

Hearing this, Xiaofan hurriedly searched his wallet for a bank card. He pulled one out, and a small black memory card fell out.

Xiaofan bent down to pick it up, recognizing it as the memory card from the meteor shower at Phoenix Mountain.

Without overthinking it, Xiaofan put the memory card back into his wallet and handed the bank card Ouyang Xiong gave him to Li Kuo.

"Over 900,000. If it's not enough, I'll have Chen Mei'Er send more over."

"Okay. Help me find the killer."

"Definitely."

After taking the card, Li Kuo slowly walked back into the ward. His tear-swollen eyes were utterly spiritless. Being men, they all knew words of comfort wouldn't help; only by giving him more hope could he regain his vitality.

"Let's go."

Turning back, Xiaofan and Lin Miaoke quickly headed to the crime scene.

Upon arrival, the police line had already been removed, and the bloodstains on the ground were cleaned up. Xiaofan had also seen the site photos; the two bodies weren't far apart, suggesting they fell from the sixth floor simultaneously.

Then the question arises, from such a height, why did Li Zhongran die instantly while Li Kuo's mother was merely severely injured?

With these questions in mind, Xiaofan and Lin Miaoke went upstairs and opened the room.

Nothing in the scene had been moved, but it was nighttime, requiring lights to inspect the area.

"Hey, don't move, don't leave random fingerprints at the crime scene," Lin Miaoke quickly said, seeing Xiaofan searching for the light switch.

'Tic-tac.'

The light switch was a pull-chain type, with a very ordinary décor, and the furniture seemed to be from the eighties. Dust covered the surroundings, clearly showing it hadn't been lived in for some time.

However, there were meal boxes and empty liquor bottles on the table, evidently left by the criminals who kidnapped the two.

The broken rope was near a chair; if guessed correctly, the two were tied here and then led to the balcony. The footprints from the chair to the balcony were chaotic, with many prints, making it hard to distinguish which belonged to Li Kuo's parents.

Standing on the balcony, Xiaofan leaned out to look down. Then he began visualizing the whole event.

"Do you think they might have jumped themselves?" Xiaofan suddenly asked.

"Jumped themselves? No way, who would be that foolish? They're wealthy people, they must cherish their lives," Lin Miaoke said incredulously.

"Hmm? It's just a theory for now. Li Kuo's mother can't wake up anytime soon. This is really frustrating."

The phone was found in the east of the city, but the people were west, and after the incident, the other party vanished without a trace, leaving no clues except for some usage marks in the room.

After surveying the room, Xiaofan walked out with Lin Miaoke, completely without a clue.

If only she was Conan like she imagined, it would help solve the case faster. But reality is such, it's impossible to notice all clues so meticulously.

On the drive back, Xiaofan pieced together the entire matter again. Disappearance, women, mobilizing funds, account freeze, murder.

All these events seem to center around one doubtful point, yet Xiaofan couldn't find a breakthrough, and the police had no clue either.

'Ring-ring-ring.'

"Hello, Li San?" At this moment, Xiaofan received a call from Li San.

"Xiaofan, get back quickly. Someone just tried to kill Li Kuo's mother."

"What? Is she okay? Where's the assassin?" Xiaofan hurriedly asked.

"Li Kuo's mother is fine, but the assassin is dead. We intended to capture him alive, but the guy jumped off the balcony while being cornered, killing himself."

"I'm coming back immediately."
