Before the appearance of the Chained Firmament, Pamela had had a dream where she died without a visible injury.
She died in a land filled with greenery and silver, and after getting to the surface of the Chained Firmament, she already knew that the dream was related to the Chained Firmament.
The runes were showing that she would die on the Chained Firmament, and it was the main reason she chose to partner up with Corey because the runes told her that it was only Corey that could save her.
She thought that by partnering up with Corey, the dangers they'd face would decrease drastically. However, it only increased and they began dealing with Immortal level threats.
It was absurd because the runes told her that she would survive if she followed Corey, but it always seemed like following Corey was what would eventually kill her.
But since she believed the runes more than anything, she remained with Corey. Besides, the revelations and experience was rather... fun.
After everything that had happened, she had forgotten about the dream she had about her death.
No
It was not that she had forgotten. She believed that the danger was over and that she was safe.
And why wouldn't she?
There was nothing that indicated she was going to die, especially in the strange manner by which she died in the dream.
'Damn it. It's definitely the Clown's doing. I don't know how, but it is, and... Should I say it's Corey's fault? Would I be in this situation if not for Corey?'
'Would I have been targeted by the Clown if I had not followed Corey?... And you guys advised me to follow him, am I not dying right now.'
Pamela had these thoughts after telling Corey, Divine, Rosa, and Jeremy that she felt like she was dying.
Divine, Rosa, and Jeremy had stunned expressions when they heard Pamela's words, and they couldn't believe it.
Even Corey did not believe it at first, but then he recalled the Clown's words and the fact that he had three pages of the Book of Death with him.
He then began to put two and two together.
"How are you dying? You look perfectly fine to me." Divine said with a baffled expression, and Pamela glanced at Corey with narrowed eyes that were filled with resentment before shifting her gaze away.
'What did I do?' Corey was confused but he wisely chose not to say or ask any questions.
"My soul... My soul span is reducing at a rapid pace." Pamela said with an extremely solemn expression.
Despite the gravity of her words, she looked calm and was not panicking, but Pamela knew that panicking would not solve anything.
It was better for her to calmly observe and analyzing what was going on and how her soul span was rapidly reducing, and to also find a solution to it.
Inwardly, she was communicating with the runes on what to do, but they were not able to provide a solution to her.
It was not that the runes did not have a solution, but she was far too weak to understand the solution and to be able to utilize the appropriate grade of runes and the type of runes to solve the problem.
But what some runes were telling her to do was that Corey had a solution to the problem, and her expression became strange when she heard those words from the runes.
Since she believed the runes with everything she had, she knew that Corey most likely had a solution to her problem.
However... Would Corey be willing to help her?
What was the solution?
What would it cost? What was the process?
There were so many questions Pamela had when the runes told her that Corey could help, and she could not help but look at Corey with a tinge of resentment.
'If I had not followed him, I would most likely not be in this situation.'
Unknown to Pamela, whether she followed Corey or not, she would still be in this situation because the Clown would realize just how dangerous her abilities were and would choose to kill her in this same manner.
The runes were right in telling her to accompany Corey, because if she was in her current state and Corey was not around her, there's no way he'd have known that she was dying and there's no way he would have helped her just out of the blue.
As Pamela communicated with the runes, the expressions of Divine, Rosa, and Jeremy changed when they heard her words.
Divine and Rosa both had the ability to perceive one's soul, and they quickly used it to perceive Pamela's soul.
When they did, their expressions became grave when they saw that Pamela's soul was dying at a rapid and unusual rate.
"How did this happen?" Rosa said with slightly wide eyes that were full of disbelief, and Divine had a deep frown on his face as he stared at Pamela.
Through their Soul Perception abilities, they saw Pamela's radiant soul shrinking and losing its shine like a dying star.
"What's going on? Is she actually dying?" Jeremy asked with a baffled expression.
Unlike the others, he did not possess the ability to see souls, so he had no idea what they saw.
"She's dying, and from the look of her soul... She has less than 24 hours?" Divine frowned as he made his calculation, but Pamela corrected him.
"No. I have at most two hours... Currently, I'm trying to fight back what's killing me with everything I have, but I'm obviously failing at that."
"Because my soul is still strong, it looks like I'll last for a day, but once my soul reaches a certain level of weakness, the rate at which my soul span is reducing would drastically increase."
A tense silence engulfed everybody as their hearts and minds were filled with anxiousness, confusion, and worry.
"But how is this possible? The Clown does not have the ability to do this to your soul. I've battled him so many times, so I know." Divine asked with a deep frown, and then Corey sighed.
"It's because of the Book of Death."
