"Come forth, my servants."
From that moment, the sky was devoured by darkness before being filled by a hundred-layered seal, covering almost half of the city's skies.
Out of them descended a winged demon, which was wreathed in flame and shadow.
Another followed. Then another. And then one more…
In no time, thousands of demons filled the sky, making the city and the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people still stuck in the city freeze for a moment.
A towering figure hovered in the center, clad in blackened armor that shimmered with ancient sigils, flapped his wings, and flew toward the Devil.
"Welcome back, Your Majesty." He bowed.
"Abaddon…" Satan replied with a nod, but then his expression darkened as his gaze swept across the descending armies.
"Only twenty-eight?" he growled, his tone low and venomous. "If I remember correctly, when I died, all of my seventy-two commanders were alive. Forget about the rest, I don't even see the Kings. My brother Abaddon, why weren't they here to welcome me?"
Abaddon grimaced at that question, lowering his head. "Ever since you fell, Your Majesty… the Ars Goetia has fractured. The other six Demon Kings have torn your empire apart. Beelzebub commands one faction… while Asmodeus and Lilith lead another. I remained loyal, keeping twenty-eight of your true followers alive. The rest… were stolen away."
"Ingrates…" Satan hissed at once, letting out a thunderous roar. The clouds churned, responding to Satan's fury. "I'll drag them back in chains if I must. Once I return, I will…"
"You'll have to return to do that, won't you, Lucifer?" A calm voice interrupted him, earning both Abaddon and Satan's attention.
The Devil's eyes snapped toward the divine avatar, and then the divine throne inside that avatar, where Alexander was seated.
He leaned forward, curling his lips into a smile. "Why? Did you forget your old name? Don't tell me the great Morningstar still flinches at his old name."
Satan's roar split the sky. "Don't you dare address me by that name, human!"
But Alexander Han/Han Sungjun, the wielder of Overlord's Authority, only chuckled — calm and defiant — before placing both hands on the armrests of the divine throne, "Release." He spoke aloud.
At once, the thirty-two statues, one on each step of the staircase that is attached to the throne, began to glow. Light bled through stone.
One by one, the statues released ethereal silhouettes, thirty-two celestial nymphs, each as strong as a Class-1 Being.
The divine spirits flew toward Alex and circled around the throne before merging with the divine avatar, which grew 32 new arms, each arm carrying a weapon.
Down in the streets, Vivian stood frozen for a moment, her gaze locked on the figure, just like thousands of spectators. Her lips parted in awe.
"That throne… it holds such power? I knew it," she whispered. "That man—he came to the auction for the throne indeed… Damn… if I knew it was such a high-quality artifact, I could have bid more."
Beside her, Xuenyi then grabbed Lin Fang's shoulder, breaking his trance, too."We need to move—now! The battle will only get more intense."
Lin Fang tore his eyes away from the divine throne's blazing light, forcing a nod. He wanted to help with fighting against those demons, but the earlier experience just forced him to nod. Just a shockwave from the clash of two behemoth figures is enough to injure him, after all. "Yeah, let's leave. It's only foolish to stay and watch."
"Fenrir, Unleash the Skill: Shadow Clones."
With a quick order from Xuenyi, the wolf that was with them glowed and split into four black wolves.
"Get on!" she ordered.
Without hesitation, Lin Fang and Li Liu mounted the original, while Zhi Yan, Vivian, and Xuenyi each took the clone. The wolves then dashed across the cracked road, rushing toward the exit.
Meanwhile, as demons ran amok all over the city, increasing the panic further and forcing many, even high-ranking hunters, to desert their jobs and just try to survive, the four wolves destroyed everything that tried to attack them. That's when Lin Fang learnt that Fenrir isn't a Lord Tier monster at all. It was a King Tier monster who was on the cusp of becoming an Emperor Tier (Level-59).
Lin Fang was already trying to wrap his head around this whole demon invasion scenario, and now, another surprise hit him. The surprise turned into a shock when they finally reached the barrier.
With a snap of fingers from Xuenyi, her Fenrir, the Black Wolf, along with its clones, disappeared into her, and from there, they walked through foot to get out of the city, while the demons were locked in the barrier.
He muttered under his breath as Xuenyi once again summoned her black wolf, followed by three more clones, "How the hell did she do that… did she also have pet inventory or something? And what's with that skill? Is there no cooldown timer or something?"
He was merely talking to himself in wonder, but Alpha's voice responded to him, right then, "Her beast was a spirit king, much like me, kiddo. That's why she could store it in her mindscape."
Lin Fang was taken aback for a moment. "Hey Alpha, you're talking again. Where the hell were you earlier? You went completely silent. I called for you many times, but you haven't responded once."
Alpha's voice sounded sheepish as it answered. "Sorry about that. I couldn't risk drawing attention. If that devil sensed my presence inside you, he would've targeted you instantly. And believe me, death is the last thing you would have to worry about when facing that existence. And now that we are out of its range, I could finally talk. Anyway, as for your second doubt, it isn't a skill like yours, kiddo. What she did is more of a manipulation. She split its consciousness into multiple bodies at once.
Lin Fang clenched his fists around the wolf's fur. "She can do that?"
"Of course, you can also do that, with Xuan Hei and Nebula… However, it needs great willpower. If I had to use your modern analogy, it is like watching multiple shows on different television screens at the same time."
Lin Fang nodded thoughtfully at Alpha's explanation. The wind whipped past his face as the wolf sprinted across the outskirts of the city.
*
Several hours later.
As the first rays of the rising sun spilled over the battlefield, the silence was broken by collective cheers. The surviving hunters raised their weapons with their exhausted faces lighting up in disbelief and relief.
Floating high above the ruins of half-destroyed city, Alex stood bathed in golden light. His chest heaved with heavy breaths, his body covered in blood and soot. Hundreds of demon corpses were seen spreading all over the city.
He reached down and grabbed the severed head of Satan, lifted it high, swirling once to show it to the trembling, cheering crowd below. A confident, almost triumphant smile stretched across his face as he said, "I claim this as my prize. I will leave the rest to you all. Do whatever you want with them."
As another wave of collective cheers filled the air, before anyone could approach, before the guild leaders or military teams could surround him, Alex raised his palm. The air shimmered, and with a flicker of light, both the devil's head and massive body vanished, stored neatly into his inventory. Followed by that, he turned into a blur and disappeared from everyone's sight, reappearing on the top of a skyscraper, located several kilometers away.
Staring down at the ruined city from the edge of the building and panting heavily, he murmured, "Finally… It's done."
His eyes glowed faintly as he looked down at his own bloodstained hands.
"Now all that's left is to obtain his core… and refine it into mine. Once that happens… when I gain that power… I'll erase Shen Triad once and for all…" his twisted expression turned serious again as he gazed at the rising sun. "Soon, we will finish the battle that you left halfway, Mother. You, the Divine Beast, Zmey Gorynych, must answer my questions this time."
His hand tightened into a fist. "Once I absorb this power, I will become the strongest being in Siberia, as you asked me. Just you wait, Mother… I'm coming for you."
The wind howled around him, as if it were responding with a supporting cheer.
