There were just under five minutes left before the time limit ended.
Now that the scenario had returned to normal, he just had to finish this mission all at once. This was also for Yeo Haru's sake.
What's next, then?
According to Xi Huan, shouldn't they toss Yeo Haru to the pool again?
However, he couldn't bear to see this kid relive this nightmare again.
Also, wouldn't that produce another error if a third Haru enters the pool? The system might complain again. How many Harus do you have?
Since that was the case, tossing Yeo Haru into the pool was now out of the options.
On the surface of the pool water, the remains of Seo Jayu's paper figure floated. It had almost suffered the same fate as the unknown sacrificial paper figure, but because the disturbance had stopped in time, it was only torn in half.
Still, it looked miserable, but it seemed like it wasn't dead yet.
It tried to summon its strength to curse Yeo Haru.
"Jang... Haru... I'm gonna make you suffer for this!"
The group was at a loss with how persistent this paper figure was.
"How can it still not die?" Xu Jiji complained.
Yeo Haru was silent as he stared at it.
Suddenly, Xi Huan stepped out of the formation and approached him.
"Hey, where are you going?" Rayen asked.
"Hmm?" Xi Huan stopped midway and glanced at him. "I'm gonna end the nightmare now."
"Stop where you are!" Xu Jiji shouted.
Xi Huan did indeed stop. "Why?"
"Are you planning on tossing Haru into the pool?"
Hearing the commotion, Yeo Haru also looked back.
"... Ajiji, I'm not that cruel," Xi Huan said before resuming her steps.
Seeing her approaching, Yeo Haru warily took a step back. Because of that, he almost fell into the pool. Fortunately, Xi Huan was fast and prevented him from falling before he did.
"I did not come to push you into the water, but you're jumping in yourself? Silly Haruru~"
"....." Yeo Haru was rendered speechless.
After a chuckle, she pulled him aside and squatted at the edge of the pool, staring right at the mangled paper figure.
"... Who are you?" Paper Figure Seo Jayu asked.
"I'm your mommy."
"Beep beep."
"Hehe. You're so hot-headed. I don't like people like you."
The paper figure continued to cuss and get censored. This did not faze Xi Huan at all, though. She smilingly listened to everything as though she was enjoying each beep that travelled to her ears.
"Sigh. Aren't you tired? Why don't you shut up for a moment?"
She raised her hands and flicked her fingers.
Snap.
A familiar pocket watch dangled from her fingers. With a single movement, she let it swing.
"Calm down, won't you?" Xi Huan said amidst the ongoing series of beeps that was still ringing throughout the entire building.
However, something was different with her voice. It was low and airy. It was soothing to the ears more than anything that Rayen had heard.
"Don't worry, your Mommy is here..." she continued to soothe the paper figure.
Behind her, the group watched in doubt.
What is she doing?
Gradually, the beeps and curses actually died down. It seemed like her hypnosis actually worked.
This left Xi Huan smiling sweetly. From her side, Yeo Haru shuddered and stepped away from her in fear.
"Good. Good," Xi Huan praised the paper figure. "Now, listen to Mommy, you piece of beep."
Rayen and group: "....."
"Who do you think you are? You think you're cool? Listen to every word that I'm about to say. Everything about you looks so pathetic, Mommy can't even bear to look at you."
Her voice was still as soothing as ever, yet the words that came from her mouth left an astounding wound in its wake. Even the paper figure was briefly stunned and dazed.
"You think telling Haru that he's a nobody makes you superior? Why don't you look at yourself in the mirror? Haru is not a nobody. He's always making sure he's not by projecting himself in the camera all the time. He's super-duper silly, but at least, he's cute. What about you?"
"Should we stop her?" Iris suddenly asked.
"She seems scary. I don't want to go near her at all..." Xu Jiji replied.
Rayen nodded, as well as the others.
Xi Huan continued her rants, "You're drowning, but no one is about to save you. You, beep beep of beep. You're so lonely and cold and dying, how come no one is coming to save you? Die. Die. Die. Come on, follow my words! 'I'm going to die! Help me!'"
On the water, the mouth of the paper figure opened with a slight resistance. "I... I-I'm going to die... Help me...."
"Good. Follow me again." Xi Huan swung the pocket watch faster. "'I want to live. Please help me. Is anyone there?'"
The swinging of the pocket watch destroyed the little resistance that the paper figure had. Like a mechanical robot, it followed each of Xi Huan's words.
Rayen and the other members of SEEDZ glanced at each other. They finally realized what Xi Huan was doing.
For the mission, the system once issued an error that an emotional event was not triggered. And from Mini Plotter's words, Rayen had confirmed that they needed Yeo Haru to undergo some emotional event before they had to fish him out. This emotional event must have pertained to Yeo Haru's thoughts just when he was about to die.
And so, Xi Huan was trying to brainwash Seo Jayu's paper figure to feel the same emotions that Yeo Haru had once gone through.
After a few more repetitions, Xi Huan had thoroughly brainwashed this paper figure into thinking that he was Yeo Haru, who was drowning without anyone coming to save him. She stood up and hid her pocket watch under her sleeves before going back to the group with a satisfied smile on her face.
"Help me. Help me, please." The voice of the paper figure continued to ring throughout the building.
"Who's gonna fish it out?" Xi Huan asked, tilting her head at them.
A shudder ran down Rayen's spine.
'Help. This swindler is too scary...'
