In the end, it was Mr. Big News and Liam who fished out the mangled remains of Seo Jayu's paper figure in the pool. Despite being mangled to this degree, it continued to mutter and ask for help in a weak voice.
Yeo Haru watched all of this with a complicated feeling in his chest.
At the same time, Rayen felt a sudden shift in the distance. He glanced toward the door of the pool area, but he was staring beyond it.
"Let's go," Rayen said. "The exit to the mission scenario had appeared."
There were just three minutes left before the time limit ended, so the team immediately moved fast. Before they leave though, Adrian walked toward one of its parts under the confused gazes of the people around him.
"What are you doing? Let's go out now," Rayen said.
"Let me settle one last thing with this guy," Adrian responded.
Then, he raised his foot and stepped on the paper figure.
"... Why are you torturing it again? We don't have time."
Adrian only smiled at Rayen without replying. Flowers and an irresistible charm oozed out of him as he continued to move his foot that was stepping on the paper figure.
Rayen shuddered upon watching this scene. It wasn't only Xi Huan who was scary in this group.
Because the paper figure was already soaking wet, it didn't take much force for the part that Adrian was stepping on to crumble.
"....."
With another look at the pitiful paper figure, Adrian saw that the name "Haru" on its chest had been erased. He was finally satisfied. He took his foot away and stepped back.
"Let's go," he said.
The team finally moved fast, leaving the soaked Seo Jayu on the floor. The moment they left the pool area, they could still hear its plea for help, but no one turned back to help it.
After all, they already have the real Yeo Haru by their side. Their mission was to rescue Yeo Haru out of the nightmare, so they're just taking the real Yeo Haru out.
The first thing they saw when they left the pool area was the placards that the paper figures that Adrian and Mr. Big News had blocked from entering had left behind.
They traversed the swirling darkness with hurried steps, ignoring these things. Once they entered the corridor, it was empty.
The paper students had all entered their respective classrooms, busy with their own things again. The team's footsteps reverberated throughout the corridor, which made the paper students look over, but upon glancing for a brief second, they would just turn their heads away.
No one paid them any attention anymore.
When they passed by Yeo Haru's classroom, the team briefly slowed down their steps. The paper students inside noticed their presence, but just like in the other classrooms, they would just glance over once before resuming what they had been doing before.
This was the right feeling.
In his memories, Yeo Haru was always treated like this. After one glance, everyone would pay him no heed.
Somehow, this sensation did not upset Yeo Haru anymore.
Yeo Haru glanced around the classroom and saw two vacant seats inside. There was no need to think about whose seat these two belonged to. These two seats were deeply engraved in his mind. After all, one was his, and the other was Jay's.
The team passed by the room without pausing.
There were just a few seconds left before the time limit ended. They had to move faster.
Finally, the team caught sight of the door leading outside the scenario. As usual, it was Xi Huan who ran to the door first. The others followed one by one.
Just as Yeo Haru was about to pass through the door, a thought suddenly came to his mind.
If there were just two empty seats for him and Jay, then who was the first paper figure they sacrificed for him?
For some reason, they had neglected this point up until now.
Yeo Haru looked back once more to see the familiar scene, but he didn't let this thought stop him from moving.
When Rayen, behind Yeo Haru, exited the scenario, the door shut down by itself. Everyone had finally exited the scenario and arrived back at their dorms.
"We're out!" Xi Huan celebrated.
Their breathing was hurried from their rapid escape earlier.
"I'm tired." Adrian plopped down on the floor. His lazy ass couldn't handle this kind of exertion.
Everyone also relaxed. Rayen leaned his back against the wall to try to catch his breath.
Just then, he felt his phone vibrate in his hand. At the same time, the others also felt their phones did the same.
Confused, they pulled out their phones.
On Rayen's screen, there was a success prompt from the system as expected.
[Team Rank Penalty Mission Complete!
>> Claim Rewards]
Rayen raised his gaze toward his teammates. "What did you receive?"
"My Team Skill ranked up..." Xu Jiji said.
"Same as mine," Iris echoed.
The others also said the same thing. Even Yeo Haru had received the same notification.
'Their team skill ranked up?'
"But isn't this my Ranking Mission?" Rayen muttered.
Rayen glanced at everyone with a crooked smile.. He was the one who bore the hardship of experiencing Yeo Haru's nightmares, yet they actually ranked up their skills?
Iris seemed to have heard what he said as she glanced at him.
"But what did you even do?" she asked, her tone sarcastic.
"....." Rayen was speechless.
Right...
Throughout the entire duration of this mission, what did he do?
In this mission, Yeo Haru was tortured to experience his death again. Ren, Mr. Big News, and Liam contributed with their physical prowess. Xu Jiji and Iris comforted Yeo Haru, while Xi Huan and Adrian were responsible for the shady things.
As for Rayen... What did he do?
'Ask Mini Plotter for help?'
Suddenly, Adrian chuckled to the side.
Begrudgingly, Rayen put his phone away, avoiding looking at Iris.
"I'm going to rest," he said.
Right before Rayen's escape and the team dispersed, Yeo Haru suddenly turned to Adrian.
"Right, Bro. I want to ask something."
Adrian lazily lifted his gaze toward Yeo Haru.
"That paper figure who you substituted in my place... What was its name?"
Rayen paused from opening the door of their room. If not for Yeo Haru reminding the team, they would have totally forgotten about the existence of this paper figure.
"Oh, right. What was its name again?" Adrian frowned. "It's quite a cute name, but I can't recall it clearly."
He scratched his head trying to recall the name.
A few moments later, his face finally lit up as he remembered.
"Boom!" Adrian exclaimed.
"....." The whole group did not react to his sudden action.
After a minute of silence, Yeo Haru tilted his head in confusion. "Huh?"
What the hell is with 'boom'?
