The hivemind is conquering for me?

Chapter 615: Glyph

As I entered a dim, yet clearly lavish room, I heard. "Is that chanting?" I couldn't help questioning, prompting Elizabeth to groan. "Great, what laws is she breaking now... Come on, nothing to fear."

As we walked into the room, we seemed at one point to cross an invisible barrier and all of a sudden the density of Psionics in the room became staggering. It almost became impossible to breathe.

Elizabeth then finally removed her vice grip from my hand and strode forward with a scowl on her face towards a group of individuals that were chanting together in a circle. I couldn't figure out the language they were speaking as I approached, it sounded like pure gibberish, but I could feel the power behind the words and that interested me to no end.

"Hecate! What in all that is Psionic are you doing in here?" Elizabeth suddenly yelled. Everyone in unison turned towards the intruder and the chanting stopped, a moment later, the suffocating feeling in the room disappeared.

Hecate suddenly emerged from the side of the room with Valerica and greeted. "Oh Beth, what a surprise and you have brought a- Oh! Apollo! Good, you made it. I assume this one is the reason you are late?" Hecate said politely, ignoring the piercing gaze of her elder.

Elizabeth ignored them for a moment and turned to me. "Apollo, go join your fellow study partners, I need to have the aforementioned words with Hecate and Valerica. Be safe and don't let them trick you into anything nefarious."

"Um, Sure? See you around Beth." I said confused, before walking towards the group of six. As I got closer, what immediately became clear was that these six individuals were not nobodies. They all appeared close-ish to my age and were all incredibly powerful.

'Genius's, cool.'

Upon getting closer, I realised that the six were positioned around a drawn out circle on the floor with a bunch of squiggly lines everywhere that were almost all incomprehensible. "Hello everyone, what is it I just interrupted? I am glad there was no backlash, that was a lot of Psionic energy I felt after all."

The six remained silent and all looked between each other as they proceeded to speak in unison. "Choir practice."

Having a feeling I wasn't going to get a real explanation until Hecate returned, I looked around at the patterns on the floor some more. They felt interesting. They clearly were not written in the Spartari language. They were foreign, but at the same time, I had a feeling they were not alien either...

My feelings on that regard only grew as I somehow could read something. A glyph. It looked like a heart at the bottom with two curled wings upon its side and atop away from the rest of the glyph was a decorative arrowhead.

"Ignis?"

As soon as I said that, the glyph spontaneously combusted, prompting all eyes to turn towards it then towards me. A man in the circle then shouted in surprise. "What did you just do?"

I turned to said man and explained. "Nothing? I just read the thing that I could read and it says Ignis, well it can be said as fire, but Ignis is the more accurate translation. I don't know why I can read it, I just can."

I lied with that last part, I knew exactly the reason why I could read the word. Sol. It was just another of her many names for what she embodied. Being her Kindled, I could see her name in anything and any language. Or so she just explained to me after activating the glyph.

The man who asked then left his position in the circle and walked over to the glyph, leaning down before it. "So that is what it means? You, can you read the others? Tell me what they all say? Are they all names of elements?"

I looked down at the rest of the squiggles on the floor, but they all just appeared as squiggly lines. "Sorry, Ignis is the only one I can make sense of." I spoke honestly, but as I said that, I felt an ominous sensation surrounding the man in front of me.

"I don't believe you." As he said that, a Scythe appeared in his hand. It was so black it made the weapon look two dimensional. He then grasped it and looked at me with sunken eyes. "You will tell me what you know, or I will find out what I need from your corpse."

Not taking the threat casually from someone with that dark look in their eyes, my armour engulfed my body and Zircon materialised herself in my hand in less than a second. "Try." I said, amplifying my voice unintentionally, making it sound blood curdling.

" I will know what you know." The man said and fully grasped his scythe. However, as he took a step forward, he suddenly collapsed, like a puppet with its strings cut, and began groaning while holding his genitals.

"For fuck sake Freddie, you let the phantom take over again. I told you to practice your suppression technique." Hecate said walking over, before turning to me. "Apollo, please remove your armour. Freddie is pacified. He was temporarily possessed by a Psionic parasite. Any threat he said towards you, he didn't mean. Now, what caused this altercation?"

I was about to respond after folding back my armour and letting Zircon hang out next to me, but Valerica suddenly appeared behind me and began squeezing me tightly in a possessive manner while pulling me to the ground to sit.

Hecate sighed, understanding why and turned to her teacher's pet. "Rebecca?" A woman with blue hair then spoke up. "The man came in, said a word. 'Ignis' and a glyph activated in the circle. There." She then pointed to the slightly flamey glyph on the floor and Hecate's eyebrow raised.

Rebecca then continued. "Freddie then asked if the man knew anymore, the man denied knowing more, then Freddie got possessed. I don't blame him this time, we finally had a breakthrough in his power, it makes sense he wanted to know more and got agitated when he couldn't learn even more after the fact."

Hecate then walked past Freddie, who was in a foetal position on the floor, his testicles undergoing torsion, and walked over to the glyph. "Interesting." She then looked at Apollo and Valerica. The man had only earlier this year awakened his Pyrokinesis and now here he was, unraveling a piece of a puzzle. "Very interesting."

"Valerica, can you release your hold on Apollo? I want him over here... Valerica!"

*GASP*

I breathed out in desperation as I was released from Valerica's chest crushing strength. I then got up to my feet quite woozily before walking over to Hecate, who supported me by resting a hand on my back.

"Sorry about her, Apollo. I have a suspicion she is going to be possessive over the coming week, so be prepared to deal with that..." She declared in a warning tone.

I then looked up at her and thought to myself 'Why did she say it like that? This is a good thing, no?'

Hecate then floated up a bit and grabbed my shoulders and spun me around to the rest of the group. " Everyone this is Apollo Lambdason-" "*AHEM!*" Valerica coughed loudly to the side. "Forgive me, Apollo Hyllus Lambdason. He is a first year at the college, but has a great deal of experience and has awakened over four times at such a young age. He also has a dispensation for Genetic enhancement supported by both Kings. He is a very intelligent young man and would be a perfect addition to our little group.

Apollo these are Freddie, Rebecca, Circe, Jack, Vera and Hamish. There are usually a few more in the group, but they are off moon, following some leads for me. I am sure you all will get on just swell."

I smiled and waved to everyone present. I had the slightest suspicion they did not have the best opening view of me, confirming this was Rebecca as she asked. "Teach, Are you sure about a first year? What we do here is pretty advanced."

Hecate raised her eyebrow at Rebecca. "Rebecca, are you saying you don't trust your teacher's judgement? I must say, that is quite unbecoming of you. And here Apollo just solved something we have been stuck on for six months like that... Tut, tut, tut. I expect better of you."

Rebecca's eyes then went wide in shock and went to correct her mistake immediately, but was cut off by,

"So, what exactly were you doing when I entered the room, all the chanting, it sounded ominous, like you were summoning a demon." I asked.

"A demon? I've not heard that terminology before, tell me about it later when we are free, but you are correct in the former part. We were trying to summon something. A Psionic entity."
