"Why?"
I asked, bewildered. "Why what, Apollo?" Hecate followed up.
"Why would you want to summon a Psionic entity? Depending on what you summon, that can be incredibly dangerous. Never mind the fact you have made a circle with a language you don't understand. How do you know it's correct if you can't read any of it? This seems incredibly reckless."
A sense of deja-vu hit me and I suddenly realised. 'Ah. Spartari Psionic elites are just mental. Got it.'
After saying that, the women identified by Hecate as Vera declared. "It is not random, Freddie has visions while he sleeps from his parasite. The pattern has been perfected after nearly two years and the chant is the next piece of the puzzle. Besides, what would you know? You just got here."
Hecate then patted me on the shoulder and doubled down her reassurances. "Risk is something I take into factor with everything I do. Apollo, this might look like an ordinary, if elegant room, but trust me when I say I have more defences set up in here than the military do on the planet below is an understatement. This room is a fortress and well equipped to deal with Psionic threats. So, be at ease."
I furrowed my brow in thought before replying. "So this is what you do here? Try to summon Psionic beings?" I asked, genuinely, prompting Hecate to laugh before her reply.
"Goodness, no child. Not at all. We are a collective of advanced minds. My class is for each of us to be a think tank. We help one another with coming up with ways to overcome obstacles in our growth. Today was actually going to be about you. You were going to introduce yourself and then we were going to help you with any Psionic issues you are having, but considering you were late, poor old me thought you were standing me up, so I moved on to Freddie."
My eyes widened in realisation. This was actually great and just the sort of thing I needed to broaden my Psionic horizons. "Alright then. I will go forward assuming you have done your due diligence in keeping everyone here safe then. So, tell me about this summoning then, what have you done so far?"
Hecate smiled, she had him hooked. 'Good.' While having Apollo join her was a selfish desire of hers, him being a possible key to future growth, she wasn't entirely selfish. She would also do her utmost to help him, just as she helps the rest of her chosen. Win-Win ultimately works better than take-take.
"Freddie, would you like to do the honours now you are coherent again?" Hecate asked as she removed her power from the man. He then slowly got up off the floor, sweating heavily from the pain before collecting himself.
"Ah, shit. Did I clock out again? Sorry new guy if I did something bad, I did not mean it. What were we discussing? Someone catch me up." After being quickly briefed, the much more polite Freddie got down to business.
"Alright. So far my, lets call it a summoning circle, I know that sounds like magic from one of those old fairy tales, but honestly, it is the best I can come up with right now, considering we don't know how it fully works just yet.
Sorry, anyway, the summoning Circle has been able to so far bring in very raw Psionic energy into the room, not the filtered stuff we absorb in real space. The proper, disintegrate your entire existence, powerful stuff. We have also summoned the less potent stuff, but that's not really worth mentioning. However, about six months ago, I started waking myself up by chanting, my little buddy in my head, he is not a parasite by the way guys, he gets upset when you call him that. Anyway, he told me it's some Archaic form of tonal frequency. Not exactly speech, but something more ancient. Before language was a thing. He said that this stuff was powerful enough that just by saying the words correctly, we can alter physical space. However, due to our Physical limitations, we are struggling with finding the correct tone and frequencies, but that brings us to the summoning. The summoning works by chanting this speech, even though we are pronouncing it all wrong. But the fact we are aware of it and are attempting to speak it gives us enough of a presence in the Psionic plane for something to want to come through. Lady Hecate, would you explain what's on the other side?"
Hecate nodded her head. "While Freddie makes it sound like we are pulling something vast towards us, we have hypothesised that we basically sound like babbling babies compared to what it should sound like. Therefore only curious entities would want to come though, nothing actually strong like fiends would attempt to wriggle their way through."
My eyes suddenly went wide at a certain word being mentioned and I probably should have kept my lips sealed, but I spoke anyway. "Fiends? like Bloodfiend's?" The whole group then immediately looked among one another in surprise. "How do you know of such a creature? We only know due to Lady Hecate!" The woman named Circe blurted out.
Hecate quickly intervened before the rest began making a ruckus. "Students, calm yourself. Apollo here has a teacher outside of the academy. A very old and powerful one from what I surmise. I am sure she knows a thing or two about Psionic entities as well. "Yes, Apollo. Like a Bloodfiend, but nothing so cataclysmic. I assure you nothing that strong would think about coming through our meagre summoning circle, you have my word on that."
"Hmmm. Can you activate it for me? For just a second? I want to have a look at it." I asked, stroking my chin. Rebecca then frowned and attempted to admonish me. "Excuse me. Who do you think you are? You can't just come in here and ask us to-
"-Do as he says, all of you. Now." Hecate declared, noticing the glint in Apollo's eye. 'Just what has he noticed?' Her hopes were slightly raised, he already activated a rune on the circle after all, what else could he do?
The group looked among one another for a moment and began chanting. The moment they did I began frowning. I wasn't sure how they were able to memorise what they were 'saying' It didn't sound even remotely like anything a human could be capable of making verbally.
However, it was doing something. Energy began forming in the middle of the circle and I found my breath being taken away again. The abundance of Psionic energy manifesting from simple gibberish?
"Beautiful."
I said before.
"!!!"
Inspiration from one of my Psionic abilities. Hecate noticed it and told everyone to zip it, I was oblivious to the look of fascination in her eyes as she glanced at me as my mind was in a very surprising state.
Where I was, I entered my Mindspace to focus and immediately looked towards Sapphire. Walking towards her, I noticed as she flipped onto her back to expose her belly, her heart became visible throughout her skin and meat. Glowing a deep Psionic blue. Her catalyst. "Son of a gun..." I chuckled. It had been a couple years since this unique power of mine had shown any desire to want to activate again and now here it was filling my mind with ideas.
"Ah, I knew you were good for something you big lug!"
"MOW!" Sapphire expressed her disapproval of my comment.
"I was only kidding you big baby, I love you very much and are my perfect Chonkasaurus." I then kissed her snoot before opening my eyes again and looking around at the curious faces.
Turning to Hecate, I asked. "What catalysts are you using to grant the entities on the other side form?"
A murmur suddenly emerged from the group and Hecate's eyes suddenly bulged wide, seemingly knowing exactly where I was going. Hamish, a man my size suddenly asked. "A catalyst? What do we need that for?"
I walked to the centre of the summoning circle to address everyone from a clear point of view. "Psionic entities are not flesh. Blood. Some entities can develop these things, but even then it's an imitation of the real deal. If we are talking about weak Psionic entities. These things are probably incapable of thought the same way we are. They see reality completely differently. So, they would need a 'suit' to put on, so they have guidelines of how to exist in this space. Otherwise, they would just be trying to come into this space with their original form and simply be incapable of doing so."
My point was hypothetical of course, that might not be the case, but with the inspiration from my unique ability and the conversations I have had with Sol about how she used to perceive reality. With both of those points, I had a hunch I wasn't far off and due to that, I couldn't help thinking.
'Ooh, this is going to be so much fun I can already tell!'
