Nightblade (Darkest night)

Chapter 126: Against all odds

‎Where the warehouse had once stood, all hell had broken loose. giant green energy beams whizzed through the air, demolishing the remaining piles of crates, the very air sizzling in the awake. only know it was a talented free-for-all.

‎The warehouse aside, the scale of destruction was starting to pile up slowly.

‎Alissa was not yet back at full strength, but she had recovered just enough to put up a considerably fierce fight.

Despite having Superior numbers on her side, Candace's smile soon vanished, leaving an irritated scowl on her face.

‎Norvax intuition had been right.

‎Outside the warehouse with the crows had reinforcements waiting for them, just in case the Praesagius intervened.

‎Norvax stared into the distance, a dark light gleaming in his eyes.

‎" What's taking them so long?"

‎Even though the battle had gone on for a while, the reinforcements that he was expecting were not arriving. And that did not bode well for them. So far, they had managed to stay alive with guerrilla tactics, but they were only human; exhaustion and fatigue were piling up while the crows had numbers on their side.

‎And often in fights like this, a split second could determine the outcome of the battle.

‎Norvax ducked under a particularly powerful punch, then spun, leaping away from the follow-up punch in the nick of time.

Before him stood a man towering over Norvax, at roughly 7 ft.

‎The Goliath was surprisingly fast for his side at times, seemingly keeping up with Novak's own inhuman speed, her feet which was nothing to scoff at.

‎The brute had dishevelled black hair that was carefully styled into a rough military crew cut.

‎Dark pulsating veins rippled across the man's muscular forearms, popping through the sleek black t-shirts he was wearing.

‎His beady blue eyes glowed ominously in the cloud of dust, giving him the appearance of a ghostly appearance like some ancient creature of darkness.

‎Another punch broke through the ground, generating a devastating shockwave of force that pushed Norvax back slightly.

‎" What the hell?"

‎Judging by the abilities that the man had revealed so far, he was probably a class A-2, but then again, from the way he was fighting, he was probably holding back, probing the opponent's defenses, testing the limits of what Norvax could do.

‎Norvax lunged back, choosing to fight the giant head-on.

‎Ordinarily, such a move would be suicidal, especially if he didn't possess an ability related to speed, but in this case, he was quite fast on his feet himself, and he was also wearing his nano shroud.

Therefore, despite appearances, it was actually the larger man who was at a disadvantage, or so he thought.

‎Norvax threw a flurry of jabs through the air at the man's exposed side, but impossibly and in a mind-boggling manner, the man nimbly recovered, spinning away in one fluid move.

‎A heartbeat later, the man's arm shot through the air, grasping through the air at the empty spot where he'd been standing a moment earlier.

‎Norvax's eyes widened slightly, shock flashing across his face.

‎" What the hell?"

‎Of course, the silver visor hid the shock on his face.

‎For a brief moment, the giant of man had almost caught up to Norvax's speed.

‎Norvax skidded to a stop, warily watching the giant.

‎A dark, ghastly grin slowly spread across the man's face, the blue light in his eyes shining brighter with an even more ominous light.

‎"You must be so confused right now," the man whispered.

‎" I can feel it, you know, the doubt, the confusion clawing at you, that nagging feeling that you might not be actually as fast as you think you are."

The man's grin grew eerily wider.

‎"I can't wait to see the look of despair on your face when I tear you limb from bloody limb."

‎Norvax cocked his head, staring at the giant.

‎He let out a low chuckle and then burst into laughter.

‎" Was that a joke? It must have been because I couldn't help laughing. You're so funny."

‎The giant smiled, calmly flexing his large fingers.

‎The sound of his knuckles popping echoed through the warehouse.

‎Despite his confident talk, Norvax was slightly rattled.

‎"Is it something to do with his ability? "

‎Activating his ability, his eyes glowed once more, the light spilling through the silver visor of his suit.

‎"Now that's more like it," the man drawled, taking a step forward.

‎ Just then, on his right, another pair of glowing green eyes pierced through the dust cloud. A moment later, a tall, lanky youth, in an I'll fitting brown leather jacket with matching boots, materialized through the chaos.

‎Norvax rolled his eyes in exasperation.

‎" Just my luck. What's he got up his sleeve?" With a scream, the youth's eyes blazed with light.

‎Several blocks of concrete rose into the air in the wake of his ability, hurtling towards Norvax with considerable speed.

‎Norvax grinned shamelessly.

‎"You may as well mail me the pieces."

‎He wove through the incoming debris with uncanny ease.

‎A split second later, his instincts screamed at him.

‎Without missing a beat, he half leapt, half lunged through the air, the massive arm behind him missing him by a few mere inches.

‎Norvax swiftly rolled away, springing to his feet in one fluid motion.

‎The two men stared at him, their lips curling into twin menacing smiles.

‎The giant flexed his arms slightly, cracking his knuckles once more.

‎With a casual wave, he smiled at Norvax, slowly walking forward until he only stood a few feet away.

‎" You know, I almost had you that time. Next time, it will be the last."

‎The brat from before circled to the side, standing opposite the man.

‎"So they're teaming up against me?"

‎Norvax quietly acknowledged the effort, his gaze shifting back and forth between the two men.

‎"You know," the giant leisurely drawled, slowly walking forward.

‎" With that visor on, I can't really see what kind of expression you're making, and that really saddens me..."

‎In the space of a heartbeat, he was suddenly in front of Norvax, his fist flashing through the air.

‎Even with his superior speed, Norvax barely had any time to react before the fist smashed into his visor.

‎Norvax flew back, smashing into a wall of telekinetic force.

‎" Damn!"

‎Norvax fell to the ground, gritting his teeth in pain.

‎The nano shroud absorbed the brunt of the blow, but the punch had still hurt quite a lot.

‎Without missing a beat, the giant brute was upon him once more, his fists punching through the air like pistons.

‎Norvax barely evaded the first jabs, weaving out their trajectory in the nick of time.

‎The Man's fists slammed into the ground with the speed of twin ballistic juggernauts.

‎With a horrific crunching sound, the ground cracked, forming a deep chasm that only continued to grow.

‎Wth a snarl, Norvax pulled his feet to his chest, kicking the giant in the best while simultaneously using the force accumulated to launch himself away.

‎The giant staggered back in surprise, giving Norvax some much-needed breathing room.

‎Norvax rolled to his feet and then stood watching the two men in silence.

‎"Are you starting to get it now the brute taunted, grinning gleefully.

‎"Alone against the two of us, you're no match for us. The only way this ends is with your defeat."

‎Norvax pursed his lips. Then a cold smile appeared on his face.

‎"It's time I got serious."

‎Despite having the upper hand, the casualties on the Crows' side were mounting.

This was, of course, mostly because of Alissa. Her ability allowed her to attack and cripple the enemy from afar, and so, despite the uphill battle they were fighting, against all odds, they were winning.

From the looks of things, Norvax was going to be occupied for a while, and since he was too far away for her to support him the best she could do was whittle down the numbers from afar and keep moving.

Of course, the situation was lightly to change soon if any of their opponents managed to confront her directly.

‎ A neon green energy projectile whizzed past her, slamming into the spot where she had stood moments earlier. The ground shattered violently, the beam causing an explosion of the concrete and shards of debris.

‎Candace's head whipped around, her face darkening at the explosion.

‎" We need to wrap this up now."

‎The reason the Crows were struggling so much was a simple one, and yet the end goal was proving difficult to achieve.

The Crows wanted to capture the agents alive and, in the process, also acquire the vault. Two birds with one stone. concussive explosion of light, sound, and heat rippled through the deserted space where the warehouse had formerly stood. Candice shielded her eyes from the brunt of the explosion, raising a telekinetic shield in front of herself, warding off the shrapnel and debris that was flying through the air. She made a rapid hit count, mentally taking note of the few remaining crows. Needless to say, they still had the advantage when it came to numbers but the losses continue to pile up with the passage of time. she let out her weary sigh, her violet eyes igniting with ghostly light.

‎ "I guess I can't hold back anymore."
